Lavina Gessner
NAPOLEON - Lavina C. Gessner, 95, Napoleon, died Saturday afternoon at Holgate Quality Care Center, Holgate.
She was born Dec. 20, 1905, in Henry County, the daughter of George and Helen (Elling) Agler. In 1932, she married Clarence Gessner, who died in 1968. She worked at Chief Supermarket, Defiance, retiring in 1970. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Holgate, and its Ladies Guild, and was also a member of the Jolly Dozen Club, Florida.
Surviving are a son, Gary, Napoleon; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Cornie Lu) Crossland, Defiance; two stepsons, Warren of Leipsic and Robert, Defiance; a brother, Larry Agler, Holgate; a sister, Pearl Huber, Holgate; and 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Lester and Robert Agler; a sister, Elza Clymer; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.

Bernhard Michaelis
NAPOLEON - Bernhard W. Michaelis Sr., 93, rural Napoleon, died Thursday in the Lutheran Home, Napoleon.
He was born July 3, 1907, in Henry County, the son of Fred and Henrietta (Sonnenberg) Michaelis. In 1935, he married Edna Oberhaus, who died in 1993. In 1995, he married Anna Franz, who survives. He was a farmer and general construction laborer and also worked at Madison Buffet, Tidekes Department Store and in various shipyards, all in Toledo. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Napoleon; Turkeyfoot Trotters Square Dance Club; and served as West Liberty Prize Winners 4-H Club adviser for 30 years.
Also surviving are two sons, Bernhard of Napoleon and Marvin, Florida; two daughters, Betty Middleton of Hillard and Mrs. George (Diann) Johnson, London, England; two brothers, Arthur of Las Vegas and Frederick, Napoleon; a sister, Mrs. Alvin (Emma) Warncke, Defiance; and 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a son, Clarence; four brothers, Alfred, Theodore, Ervin and Lawrence; and three sisters, Olga Panning, Rosella Okuley and Rosetta.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, with Revs. James Updegraff and Michael Westbay officiating. Burial will be in Hoy Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.
Preferred memorials are to the Emmanuel Lutheran building fund, St. Paul United Methodist Church, Napoleon or the 4-H endowment fund.

Dorothy Wannemacher
CLOVERDALE - Dorothy Cecilia Wannemacher, 85, Cloverdale, died Friday morning at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born April 27, 1915, in Decatur, Ind., the daughter of Pete and Amelia (Bentz) Heimann. In 1951, she married Ambrose Wannemacher, who died in 1988. She was Cloverdale village treasurer for many years and was also treasurer of Cloverdale Community Club. She was a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society, Ottoville VFW Post 3740 Auxiliary and Cloverdale Garden Club.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald of Cloverdale and Richard, Glandorf; two sisters, Mary Repine of North Ft. Myers, Fla., and Celeste, Cloverdale; and two grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Phillip, Raymond and Robert Heimann; and three sisters, Regina Mattes, Agnes Weiskittel and Frances Berger.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Rev. Chris Vasko officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Home, Ottoville, with a VFW Auxiliary Post 3740 memorial service at 3 p.m. and a parish rosary service at 8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.

Rozella Williams
WAUSEON - Rozella M. Williams, 76, Wauseon, died Friday morning at Heartland of Wauseon.
She was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Wauseon, the daughter of Alfred and O'Tillie (Kaiser) Baum. In 1945, she married Rollin Williams, who survives. She was employed by Fulton Industries, Wauseon, for 25 years and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a former member of Shirts and Skirts Square Dancing Club and Traveling Promenaders Square Dancing Club.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Patrick (Janet) Pavlat of Monroe, Mich., and Judy Riley, Wauseon; a son, Jerry, Wauseon; three brothers, Vern, Glen and Harold Baum; a sister, Virginia Goldsmith, Wauseon; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Mary Ann Poorman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Revs. Tim Sonnenberg and Scott Silcox officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, rural Wauseon. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon.
Preferred memorials are to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

James Roose
BRYAN - Former Bryan resident James L. Roose, 72, died Saturday at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Saginaw, Mich., the son of Kenneth and Marion (Helf) Roose. He was a retired meat cutter with Kroger Company, Bryan, and a member of West Unity United Methodist Church. He recently had lived in the Fritz House, Paulding.
Surviving are three sons, Tracey of Bryan, Brent of Edgerton and David, Fort Wayne; two brothers, Gene of Salt Lake City, and Jerry, West Unity; two sisters, Mrs. James (Carol) Cunningham of Bryan, and Mrs. Richard (Peggy) Hartman, West Unity; and 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Robert.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hollingshead Funeral Home, West Unity, with Rev. Gary Keisling officiating. Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Shiffler Cemetery, rural Bryan. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to the time of service Tuesday.

Violet Wagner
Violet E. Wagner, 81, Defiance, died at 2 a.m. Monday in Harborside Healthcare.
She was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Toledo, the daughter of Eugene and Elsie (White) Gerber. In 1939, she married David Wagner, who died in 1982. She worked at Dinner Bell Foods of Defiance, Campbell Soup Co. of Napoleon and Sugar Shack. She was past president of Island Parkway Residence Association, a former treasurer and public relations officer for AARP Chapter 3535 and a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Surviving are three sons, Dan and Michael, both of Defiance, and Steve, Morgan City, La.; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Susan) Crist and Mrs. Larry (Nancy) Werling, both of Defiance; two brothers, Robert Gerber of Toledo and Eugene Gerber, Olmstead Township; three sisters, Rita Wendell and Virginia Engelhardt, both of Toledo, and Elsie Swickheimer, South Carolina; and 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-stepgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Linda; three brothers, Leo, Charles and Edward Gerber; two sisters, Marilyn Haeffner and Jean Marie Shircliffe; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Luhring officiating. Burial will be in Ice Cemetery, Paulding County. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice the Caring Way of Defiance.

Joseph Schrock
ARCHBOLD - Former Fayette resident Joseph M. Schrock, 82, Archbold, died Sunday evening are Fairlawn Haven, Archbold.
He was born Aug. 7, 1918, near Arthur, Ill., the son of Menno and Lydia (Gingerich) Schrock. In 1950, he married Ada Frey, who survives. He was a farmer and a custodian and bus driver for Franklin Township School, near Fayette, for 22 years, retiring in 1986. He was involved with the restoration of Fayette Opera House and a charter member of Zion Mennonite Church, Archbold.
Also surviving are three sons, Joe of Goshen, Ind., Tom of Adrian, Mich., and Doug, Zone; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Norma) Hershberger of Canton and Mrs. Tom (Ann) Mooney, Basking Ridge, N.J.; three brothers, Chris of Arthur, Jacob of Sarasota, Fla., and Dan, Champaign, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Joas (Barbara) Herschberger and Mrs. Levi (Mary) Hochstetler, both of Arthur; and 10 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepmother, Emma; and two sisters, Anna Mast and Lena Miller.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with Rev. Ronald Guengerich and Anne Stuckey officiating. Burial will precede services in Pettisville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday in the church's fellowship hall. Handling arrangements is Short Funeral Home, Archbold.

John Sholl
BUTLER, Ind. - John H. Sholl, 86, Butler, died at 7:55 a.m. Sunday in his home after a brief illness.
He was born July 1, 1914, in Mark Center, the son of William and Olla (Huber) Sholl. In 1937, he married Bernice Rohrs, who survives. He was a farmer and a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Edgerton, where he had formerly served as a board member.
Also surviving are two sons, Dwight of Sturgis, Mich., and Keith, Toledo; three daughters, Elaine Moughler of Butler, Carolyn Ferrier of Cleveland and Marlene Embry, Fort Wayne; two sisters, Lura Spangler of Bryan and Amelia Renz, Edgerton; and 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, William, Eldon and Earl; and a sister, Ila Sharpe.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Rev. Don McElwee officiating. Burial will be in Lost Creek Cemetery, Hicksville. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
