Janis "Jan" Marie (Nestor) Bixby
Janis "Jan" Marie (Nestor) Bixby, age 74, of Norwalk, died Tuesday evening, September 28, 2004 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.

She was born August 10, 1930 in Norwalk. She lived in Norwalk and Milan all of her life. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Paul High School, and was member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Milan. She and her husband where charter members since 1965 of “Vacational Trav’lers”, a camping organization. She was a bus driver for 18 years for the Berlin-Milan Schools and retired in September of 1990.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, George A. Bixby of Norwalk; Children, Michael of Monroeville, Shari (Richard) Parker of Milan, and Scott (Jeri) Bixby of Norwalk; four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis (Fred) Wilcox of Norwalk and Shirley (Miles) Howard of Homosassa, FL; brother, Charles (Becki) Nestor of Bellevue; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence P. and Helen L. (Babcock) Nestor; daughter-in-law, Cleo Bixby in 2002.

Friends may call on from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 P.M. Friday with a wake service at 7:30 P.M. in the Evans & Groff Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 130 S. Main Street, Milan, OH. The Rev. Frank Speier will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Milan, OH.

Hobert Ginter Williams II
Hobert Ginter Williams II, age 64, of Norwalk, died Wednesday afternoon at University Hospital in Cleveland.

He was born July 19, 1940 in Collins, Ohio. He was a machinist for many years and served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1963. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, fishing, camping, traveling and watching sports and the six o’clock news.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judith Williams, to whom he married August 26, 1961; sons, Donald Williams of Norwalk and Hobert (Petrina) Williams of Huron; daughters, Kathleen Williams of Sandusky and Kimberly (Joseph) Hardy of New London; brother, Gordon (Maggie) Williams of Memphis, TN; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter in May; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert Green Williams and Audella B. (Lykins) Williams; brothers, Harley and Joseph Williams; sisters, Helen Fairchild and Louise Ginter.

Friends may call 5 – 7 P.M. Friday at the Evans & Groff Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A graveside military service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Olena Cemetery.

Joseph Carl Schaffer
Joseph Carl Schaffer, age 80, of Norwalk, died Tuesday evening, February 7, 2006 at his residence, after a lengthy illness.

He was born August 14, 1925 in Norwalk, and was a farmer all of his life on the family’s century farm. He attended Monroeville High School and was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. His church and family were the center of his life, and in his younger years he attended to ringing the church bells each day, dug graves by hand and mowed lawns at the church cemetery. He worked for many years at Certainteed Corp. in Milan, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed being with family and working the land with his hands, and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann (Grimesey) Schaffer of Norwalk; children and their spouses, Patrick and Pamela Schaffer of Norwalk, Kevin and Ann Schaffer of Norwalk, Mary Jo and James Brown of Milan, Timothy and Sheila Schaffer of Norwalk, and Victoria Schaffer of Toledo; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Sister Mary Lenarda, SND of Toledo and Sister Francis Marie of Illinois; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard Schaffer, Alex and Betty Schaffer, Bernard Schaffer, and John and Doris Schaffer, all of Norwalk; sister-in-law, Dorothy Schaffer; and brother-in-law, Chester Wasiniak; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Schaffer; parents, Leonard and Frances (Hohler) Schaffer; brothers, Rev. Arnold Schaffer, Peter Schaffer, and Fred Schaffer; sisters, Ophelia Storme and Margaret Wasiniak.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 - 9 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Settlement Road, Norwalk. The Rev. Kenneth J. Lill will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Rita M. (Rupp) Strader
Rita M. (Rupp) Strader, age 76, of Berlin Heights, died Monday morning, May 1, 2006 at the Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.

She was born October 4, 1929 in Norwalk and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She worked at the former West Baking Company for many years, and enjoyed playing cards, reading and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Smith of Elyria, Shirley Strader of Parma Heights and Lynn Knowland of Portland, OR; sons, Robert Strader of Norwalk, Larry Strader of Wakeman and Thomas Strader of Norwalk; Sister, Pat Westerhold of Norwalk, Bill Rupp of Norwalk, Jim Rupp of Sandusky and Tom Rupp of Mason, OH; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Strader in 2005; daughters, Mary Louise Strader and Sandra Lee Strader; son, Stewart Lee Strader; brothers, Vince “Fr. Elmer”, Richard, Winfred and John Rupp; sister, Ruth Rupp; parents, John and Lucy Rupp.

Friends may call on Thursday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass will follow at 1:00 pm at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk. The Rev. Frank Kehres, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Berlinville Cemetery.

Samuel B. Perry
Samuel B. Perry, age 78, of Norwalk, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, after a sudden illness.

He was born February 19, 1928 in Prestonsburg, KY, and was a truck driver for the Coal Bit Company for many years. He moved to Norwalk with his family in 1966 and worked at Shepp Plumbing and Heating, then retired after 24 years in maintenance at Mayflower Vehicle Systems in Norwalk, 1990.

He was the Pastor of the Deliverance Tabernacle from 1989 until present in New London. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his many neighbors and friends. He also enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Opal (Haywood) Perry of Norwalk; children and their spouses, Wanda (Pete) Kessler of SC, Linda Sue (Bill) Daniels of NC, Ruth Carol Myers of Sandusky, Gary (Judy) Perry of Norwalk, Larry (Sharon) Perry of IN, Jerry (Martha) Perry of Norwalk, and Donna Kilgore of Greenwich; 26 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren; sisters, Avanell Sturgel of St. Mary’s, OH and Eleanor Howell of Prestonsburg, KY; brother, John David Perry of Prestonsburg, KY.

He was preceded in death by his sons, David Perry and Roy Perry; daughter, Mary Beth Ramey; parents, William and Erma (Parker) Perry; brother, James Perry; sister, Martha Burke.

Friends may call on Monday 6 – 9 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home. The Revs. George Lewis and Harvey Puckett will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be sent to one’s favorite charity.

Daniel Thomas
Daniel Thomas, age 62, formerly of Norwalk, died Thursday afternoon, April 27, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, OH.

He was born October 8, 1943 in Norwalk, where he lived all of his life until moving to East Sparta, OH in 2003. He was an ironworker and also worked as a group leader at Janesville Products in Norwalk for nine years. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Bebout of North Canton; son, Bryan Thomas of Barberton; five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; a brother, Gary Thomas of Brooksville, FL; and his father, Levi Thomas in Brooksville, FL; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Valoris (Knight) Thomas in 1986.

At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation or services.

Richard Barnett
Richard Barnett, age 53, formerly of Norwalk, died unexpectedly Monday, January 12, 2004 at his residence in Brownsburg, IN.

He was born March 14, 1950 in Willard, Ohio. Richard was a 1968 graduate of Norwalk High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Goldwing motorcycles, and was an avid collector of guns. He served in the US Army during Vietnam, and was a life long member of the American Legion.

Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, Judy Barnett of Brownsburg, IN; daughter, Heather Barnett of Norwalk; step-children, Kelly Matthews of TN, Ian Welsh of TN, Chad (Sheri) Welsh of KY; grandchildren, Neal and Wesley Johnson of Norwalk, Kelsie and Madison Matthews of TN, Jacob Welsh and Brianna Patterson of KY; brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell (Kathy) Barnett, Roger Lee (Darlene) Barnett, All of Norwalk, Leroy (Pam) Barnett of NV, Arnold (Sara) Huckeby of Cincinnati, Brenda Maynard of MI, Susan (Hershel) Chafin of WVa; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella Mae (Fred) Sayre, Anna (Lee) Cox, Barb (Tom) Carleton, Phillis (Dean) Hales, All of Norwalk; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cart and Nola Barnett; brother, Riley Barnett.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 – 9 P.M. at Evans & Groff Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. A funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 17, 2004 in the funeral home. The Rev. Louis Diehl, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Norwalk, will officiate. Burial will follow with military rites at Hester Cemetery in Norwalk, Ohio.

Charlotte R. (Triplett) Benson
Charlotte R. (Triplett) Benson, age 73, of Norwalk, died Friday, February 13, 2004 at her residence in Norwalk, after an extended illness.

She was born January 24, 1931 in Clay County, WV. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Norwalk and a 25 year volunteer at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk. She enjoyed visiting nursing homes, sending cards, friends and spending time with her family and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Donald E. Benson of Norwalk; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl (Rodney) Owens of Grove City, OH and Barbara (Tom) Burger of Norwalk; son and daughter-in-law, Michael (Dawn) Benson of Norwalk; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Vera (David) Rathbone of Congress, OH; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack (Carleen) Triplett of Vero Beach, FL and Gerald (Mary) Triplett of Sommersville, WV; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Fannie (Atkins) Triplett; brothers, James and John Triplett; sister, Reedith Lewis.

Friends may call on Monday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 P.M. at the Evans & Groff Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk, OH. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the funeral home. Irene E. (Reeves) Bleile
Irene E. (Reeves) Bleile, 91, of Norwalk, died Saturday, May 08, 2004 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk following a recent illness.

She was born August 24, 1912 in Ridgeland, SC and moved to Norwalk after marrying Paul E. Bleile in 1929.

Irene was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Firelands Historical Society, Little Flower Study Club, Little Garden Club, The Willowdale Farmwomen’s Club and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a volunteer for the Christie Lane School and the Fisher-Titus Auxiliary. In 1993 the City of Norwalk awarded Irene and husband, Paul, with the Distinguished Americans Award.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Bleile Baltes of Norwalk; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Shirley of Norwalk, Robert and Mary of Sandusky, Thomas and Lorraine of Norwalk, Steve and Jackie of Sarasota, FL. Irene is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; sisters, Trudy, Betty, Sally and Barbara all of South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Bleile in 1994; parents, Dr. Hubert J. Reeves and Rose (Berg) Reeves Woods; brothers, Hubert, Wilber and Lamar; sisters, Viola, Julia, Louise and Margie; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 – 8 P.M. followed by a scripture service at 8:30 P.M. at the Evans & Groff Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk.

Burial will follow at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Norwalk.

Gloria H. (Hackathorn) Boes
Gloria H. (Hackathorn) Boes, age 63, of Norwalk, was surrounded by her family in her home as she took her last breath on earth, and her first steps into heaven.

She was born October 18, 1940 in Adrian, MI. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Mary Catholic Church in Norwalk and it’s altar and rosary society, Eucharistic Minister and reader, Renew Small Group, Daughters of Isabella, St. Gerard Study Club and served four terms on the St. Mary Elementary School Board. She also worked at Tenneco Automotive in Milan for 19 years.

She is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law, Gene-o (June) Boes of Seattle, WA, Leo (Wendy) Boes of Sullivan, OH, Gerard Boes of Missoula, MT, and Aaron (Carrie) Boes of Attica, OH; her six daughters, Geralyn (David) Kiser of Houston, TX, Shelli Cannon of Norwalk, OH, Gloria (Bob) Bjurstrom of Seattle, WA, Rosalie (Dennis) Smith of Norwalk, OH, April Boes of Seattle, WA and Juliann Boes of Hawaii; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Lee “Cookie” Piriczky of St. Simons Island, GA, Merrianne (Dave Buchanan) Hackathorn of Worthington, OH; brother, Dennis (Stephanie) Hackathorn of Tall Timbers, MD; brother-in-law, John Hepp of Tiffin, OH; sister-in-law, Helen Hackathorn of Norwalk, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo C. Boes Sr. in 2003; parents, George Hackathorn in 1963 and Ruth (Reising) Hackathorn in 2000; sister, Kathleen Hepp in 1991; brother, Thomas Hackathorn in 1985.

Friends may call from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 P.M. Friday at the Evans & Groff Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk, OH. A Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 38 W. League Street, Norwalk. The Rev. Norbert Howe and Nelson G. Beaver will officiate.

Burial will be at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Norwalk.
