Betty R. Riegsecker

ARCHBOLD - Betty R. Riegsecker, 79, of Archbold, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 2, 2002, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. Among her survivors is her husband, Walter.
Arrangements are pending at Short Funeral Home in Archbold.

Rickey L. "Rocket" Bowen
(1951 - 2002)

EDGERTON - Rickey L. "Rocket" Bowen, 51, of Butler, Ind., and a former Edgerton resident, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 30, 2002, in DeKalb Memorial Hospital, Auburn, Ind., following a lingering illness.
Born June 22, 1951, at Garrett, Ind. to Vesta (Gipple) and Roy H. Bowen, he married Cathy D. Brown on March 11, 1994 and she survives.
An Edgerton resident for most of his life, he relocated to Butler in 1994. A 1969 graduate of Edgerton High School, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Weber Sand and Gravel Co. of Edgerton and was a past member of the Butler Eagles Lodge and the Butler Sons of The American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Randy (and wife, Candy) Bowen of Edgerton; four stepsons, Brian (Rose) Strock of Leo, Ind., Brent (Jodi) Strock of Butler, Ind., Benjamin (Niki) McKean of St. Joe, Ind., and Toby (Sheila) McKean of Butler, Ind.; his mother, Vesta Bowen of Edgerton; two grandchildren, Randy and Cebrina Bowen; six stepgrandchildren, Robbie, Briana, Devilon, Nikylas, Jason and Steven; and two sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Susan) Bowsher of Edgerton and Nanette Wheeler of Edgerton.
Preceding him in death was his father in 1983.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor James Wilson to officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton.
Memorials may be made to the Butler Fire Rescue or Edgerton Fire Department.

John J. Tom
(1932 - 2002)

PORTAGE, Mich. - John J. Tom, 70, of Portage, Mich., and a former resident of Sturgis, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at his home.
Born Feb. 6, 1932, in Hillsdale, he had lived in Portage for the past 10 years. Prior to that he lived in Kenosha, Wisc., for two years and, from 1979-1990, he was a resident of Sturgis. On Sept. 14, 1957, he married Marabelle L."Mert" Rearick in Delta, Ohio and she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1990.
A mechanical engineer, he was employed for 17 years by Abbott Laboratories in N. Chicago, Ill., and Ross Laboratories in Sturgis. He had also owned and operated Cottman Transmission Shop in Portage for the past four years and attended the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. Surviving are three sons, James Michael Tom of Pau, France, Tony J. (and wife, Karen) Tom of Lake Zurich, Ill., and David Scott (Bernadine) Tom of Sturgis; six grandchildren; a brother, Robert "Bob" Tom of Montpelier, Ohio; a sister, Dorothy Steiner of West End, N.C.; two half sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were to be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. in the Hackman-Foglesong Funeral Home, followed by a graveside committal at Sturgis Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Carol Rae Steele

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Carol Rae Steele, 64, of Cape Coral, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Hospice House North.
Born in Paulding, Ohio, to Ruby and Raymond Rothenbuhler, she and her husband spent most of their years in Bryan, Ohio.
She had worked in retail management and furniture sales and had attended the Fort Myers First Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Robert G. Steele; a son, Robert R. (and wife, Sandra) of Cape Coral; a daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Rene) Briggs of Ocala; a foster son, Rick Sprow of Edgerton, Ohio; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. John (Colleen) Hanenkratt of Ohio and Pamela Rothenbuhler of Indiana; and a brother, Thomas Rothenbuhler of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Funeral services and entombment were held Monday, Sept. 30, in Fort Myers under the direction of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Victory Barn Church in Edgerton, Ohio. Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.

Margrate M. Plummer
(1915 - 2002)

DEFIANCE - Margrate M. Plummer, 87, of Defiance, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee.
Born Sept. 5, 1915, in Defiance County, to Esther (Whetstone) and John Boday, she married Paul Plummer in 1933 and he preceded her in death in 1991.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Surviving are four sons, Robert Plummer of Decatur, Ind., Ray Plummer of Warsaw, Ind., Larry Plummer of Defiance and Carey Plummer of Napoleon; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret "Peg" Ramey of Defiance and Nancy Oberhaus of West Unity; 28 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Folk of Ayersville and a brother, Walter Boday of Curtis.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, George and Thomas Plummer; a granddaughter; two great-grandsons; three sisters, one in infancy, Ruth Armstrong and Pauline Hedrick; and a brother, Martin Bodey.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. in the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance and Wednesday one hour prior to services in the St. John Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Donald L. Luhring to officiate. Interment will be Wednesday in Riverside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church's Sunday Morning Broadcast.

Isabelle Coy Etchen
(1908 - 2002)

ARCHBOLD - Isabelle Coy Etchen, 94, of Archbold, died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 25, 2002, at Fulton Manor Nursing Home in Wauseon, where she had resided since Sept. 7, 1995.
Born April 26, 1908, at Toledo, she was the daughter of Jennie (Spangler) and Dr. Isaac Coy. An Archbold native, she lived in Toledo for about 30 years, returning to Archbold in 1978. She worked in the fabric department at the former Lion's Westgate store in Toledo and retired from Stretch & Sew in Toledo. A member of the Archbold Garden Club and Fulton County Health Center Auxiliary, she attended the Archbold United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Curtis (and wife, Robin) Etchen Jr. of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a daughter, Mrs. Cal (Jeanne) Gorsuch of Toledo; three grandchildren, Laura Etchen of Chicago, Ill., Scott Gorsuch of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Kim R. Gorsuch of Boca Raton, Fla.; two great-grandsons, Brandon Schantz of Archbold and Brady Gorsuch of New York City.
With respect to her wishes, her body was donated to MCO at Toledo for medical research. Private services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Archbold United Methodist Church or Fulton County Hospice. Short Funeral Home in Archbold is in charge of arrangements.

Shalin Brook Giesige
(September 25, 2002)

SHERWOOD - Shalin Brook Giesige was stillborn at Defiance Hospital Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002.
The daughter of Ron and Miranda Giesige, she is survived by her parents; a sister, Samantha; grandparents, Lloyd and Sandra Sprague and Ron and Rhoda Giesige, all of Sherwood; great-grandparents, Joann Lewis and Haviland and Ruth Ford of Sherwood; and great-great-grandmother, Pallas Weibke.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Cemetery with Pastor Vincent Kroterfield of the Lighthouse Church of God to officiate.
Arrangements were provided by Brown Funeral Home Inc., Hicksville.
