Jack L. Welty
Retired truck driver

Jack L. Welty, 71, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at his residence in Risingsun.

He was born March 1, 1928, in Alvada to Glenn and Ethel (Carico) Welty. His wife, Verneda D. "Peggy" (Barlekamp) Welty, whom he married March 3, 1946, survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Larry L. and Michael J. Welty, both of Risingsun; a daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Kristi K.) Smith of Risingsun; a sister, Mrs. Don (Patricia) Schlea of Gibsonburg; a brother, Gene Welty of Milton Center; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Three brothers, Donald, Ray and James Welty; and two sisters, Ruth Krauss and Rose Mary Blankenship, preceded him in death.

Mr. Welty retired from the Sun Grain Association in Risingsun, after 45 years of employment as a truck driver.

A member of Eagles 430, Fostoria; Risingsun Senior Citizens and the Gulf Shores Alabama Senior Citizens, he had served as former marshal for the village of Risingsun.

Services in the Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Ivan Schwenn officiating. Burial will be in Bradner cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Kaubisch Memorial Public Library, Fostoria, or the American Heart Association.

Gene R. Hoover
Rural Fort Seneca resident

Gene R. Hoover, 59, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at his home at 5817 N. SR 53, Fort Seneca. Services are tentatively set for Friday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, which are in charge of further arrangements.

Electric motor repairman

Gene R. Hoover, 59, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at his residence at 5817 N. SR 53.

He was born in Tiffin Oct. 19, 1939, to the late Zerah and Ruth (Hackenburg) Hoover. His wife, Sandra S. (Hausenfleck) Hoover, whom he married Sept. 25, 1971, in Tiffin, survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Dennis Hoover of San Angelo, Texas; two stepsons, Larry Haudenshild of Tiffin and Harold Haudenshild at home; three daughters, Tanya Hemmer at home, Cindy Weber of Tiffin and Lori Seipel of Tempe, Ariz.; two brothers, Zerah "Bub" Hoover of Sandusky and Leon "Buster" Hoover of Fremont; a sister, Bev Chapman of Jenera; and six grandchildren.

A daughter, Kimberly Hoover; six brothers, Clayton, Donald, Delbert, Herb, Hank and Tom Hoover; and four sisters, Enid Deibert, Mary Sneed, Doris Kellem and Pat Hemmerly, are deceased.

A member of the Protestant faith, Mr. Hoover was employed as a electric motor repairman at Fostoria Electrical Services. He also operated a repair shop out of his home.

Graveside services in Fairwell-Retreat cemetery, Republic, will be at 1 p.m. Friday.

Visitation at the Hannay-Nemeth Mortuary is 7-9 p.m. today.

Christopher D. Ramirez
Radio Shack manager

Christopher D. Ramirez, 39, 221 W. Market St., died at his home Wednesday, May 26, 1999.

He was born in Tiffin June 3, 1959, to the late Pedro and Marjorie (Groman) Ramirez. On July 19, 1980, in Tiffin, he married Donna K. Cox. She survives.

Survivors also include: three children, Anthony C., Nathaniel C. and Catherine M. Ramirez, all of Tiffin; three brothers, Carlton Ramirez of Arlington and Charles and Greg Ramirez, both of Tiffin; and two sisters, Mrs. Steven (Eveline "Evie") Main of Bell Center and Mrs. Charlene Hemmerly of Tiffin.

Mr. Ramirez, a 1978 graduate of Columbian High School, was employed as manager of the Radio Shack in Tiffin. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

The Rev. Gary L. Halstead will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Friday service in Calvary Baptist Church.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church Friday.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Lewis Charles Ulrich
Retired farmer

Lewis Charles Ulrich, 82, of 12871 CH 47, Upper Sandusky, died about 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. He was born Aug. 3, 1916, to Frank and Hilda Elnora (Althouse) Ulrich. On Feb. 13, 1943, he married Dorothy Pfeifer. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Franklin H. Ulrich of Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Rita) Bennett of Tiffin; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ulrich was a 1935 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and a retired farmer. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, and served on church council. Other memberships included: Mifflin Grange; Wyandots Camping Club; Farm Bureau; 7th Degree Member National Grange; and the Indian Mill Antique Association.

The Rev. Robert Gordon officiated for the Thursday private visitation and service at the Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home. Burial was at Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. June 6. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Gordon, First Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund and/or Gottfried Nature Center.

Wanda Elaine Swerlein
Retired beautician

Wanda Elaine Swerlein, 82, of 100 East Jackson St., McCutchenville, died at 10:17 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Tiffin Mercy Hospital. She was born July 13, 1916, to William and Bertha (Fishel) Might. On April 16, 1939, she married Chalmer E. Swerlein. He survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Elaine) Kern of McCutchenville; and a brother, Maurice Might of McCutchenville.

Preceding her in death were four brothers and five sisters.

Mrs. Swerlein was a 1934 graduate of McCutchenville High School, and attended the Toledo School of Cosmetology. She retired as a beautician. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ and William Myers Chapter 196, McCutchenville.

The Rev. Roy Howell will officiate the 11 a.m. Saturday service at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore. Burial will be at Bethel cemetery, McCutchenville.

Visitation hours are 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, McCutchenville, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Graveside services in Fairwell-Retreat cemetery, Republic, will be at 1 p.m. today for Gene R. Hoover, 59, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at his residence at 5817 N. SR 53.

The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth J. Cowgill Innis
Retired Tiffin psychiatrist

Elizabeth Jane Cowgill Innis, M.D., died Sunday evening, May 23, 1999, at Toledo Hospital.

Survivors include: two sons from her marriage to Charles Higgins Innis, Frederick P. Innis of Tiffin and Kenneth C. Innis of Collinsville, Ill.; four grandchildren; and a brother, Frederick Cowgill of Cincinnati.

Preceding her in death were a brother, Henry Cowgill, and a son, George William.

Born in Mansfield Nov. 30, 1919, to Juanita (Patterson) and Henry Allison Cowgill, she was raised in Port Clinton.

Dr. Innis graduated from Denison University in Granville and completed her studies at Northwestern University Medical School. She was a general practitioner in Jackson County from 1948-1958, a psychiatrist at Tiffin State Hospital from 1958-1980, and a psychiatrist and medical director at Sandusky Valley Mental Health Center from 1970 until her retirement in 1995.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Soroptimist International.

Dr. Innis donated her body to the Ohio Medical College at Toledo. Interment of her remains will be in the Riverview cemetery in Port Clinton.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. June 5 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Pastor Gail Angel officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Association or the American Heart Association.

Carl Kenneth Bollinger
Bellville resident

Carl Kenneth Bollinger, 90, of 205 Kelly Ave., Bellville, died Friday morning, May 28, 1999, in the Hillcrest Nursing Center following a long illness.

He was born Dec. 28, 1908, in Bellville to Miller and Blanche (Shaffer) Bollinger

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth L. of Canton and Daniel L. of Vermilion.

He was preceded in death by his wife: L. Mourine Gano Bollinger Feb. 20, 1996; a brother, Maurice; and a sister, Geneva Snavely.

Mr. Bollinger was graduated from Bellville High School in 1927 and has been a lifelong Bellville area resident. He retired in 1972, following 43 years of service with the Ohio Brass Co. in Mansfield.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bellville; Bellville Lodge 376 Free and Accepted Masons; Bellville Knights of Pythias; the Richland County Farm Bureau; charter president of the Bellville Alumni; and a charter member of the Bellville Coffee Cup Club. An active sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas J. Pretorius officiating. Burial will follow in Bellville cemetery.

Visitation hours are 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where a Masonic memorial service will follow at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Jefferson Township-Bellville Rescue Squad, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 338, Bellville, OH 44813.

Matilda G. Kinn
Fostoria resident

Matilda G. Kinn, 94, formerly of 11404 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, May 28, 1999, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wendelin's Catholic Church, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Charles Daniel Hering
Retired Episcopal priest

The Rev. Charles Daniel Hering, 100, formerly of 29 Franklin St., died at 2:37 p.m. Friday, May 28, 1999, at St. Francis Home.

Rev. Hering was born July 2, 1898, in Cincinnati to Charles Hugo and Lillian (Hammann) Hering.

He married Alice Winifred Lenton on June 9, 1920, in Miami, Manitoba, Canada, and she died in April 1986.

Survivors include: Mrs. Robert (Leona Mary) Shawver of Oxford; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Prudence Y. Hering of Tiffin; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: a son, Charles D. "Bud" Hering, Jr.; five brothers, Edward, Walter, John "Jack," Herbert and Daniel Hering; four sisters, Bertha Welly, Marie Peterson, Leona Rhoads and Minnie Hering.

Rev. Hering graduated in 1923 from the Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, Evanston, Ill.; was ordained an Episcopal priest April 21, 1924, in St. Paul's Cathedral, Cincinnati; and received an honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity from Heidelberg College in 1960.

He was a retired Episcopal priest, serving as the Rector of Old Trinity Episcopal Church, Tiffin, from 1942-1964. He also served the following Episcopal churches: St. Mary's Church, Blair, Neb. and Holy Cross Church, Tekamah, Neb. 1924-1928; St. James Church, Wooster, 1928-1942; St. James Church, Gross Ile, Mich., 1964-1970; priest-in-charge of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fostoria, 1945-1949.

He was a member of the Old Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiffin; a former member of Tiffin Rotary Club, Tiffin Elks Lodge, Masonic Temples in Blair, Neb., Wooster and Tiffin; Wooster Lions Club; the Boy Scouts of America; American Red Cross; and a fellow of Heidelberg College.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at the Old Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Trumble officiating.

The body has been cremated and the cremated remains will be buried in the Memory Garden at St. James Episcopal Church in Gross Ile, Mich., which is a memorial garden the Rev. Hering started when serving there.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Old Trinity Episcopal Church or to the Charles D. "Bud" Hering Jr., Foundation.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Matilda G. Kinn
Fostoria homemaker

Matilda G. Kinn, 94, formerly of 11404 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, May 28, 1999, in the Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

She was born in Frenchtown March 7, 1905, to Joseph B. and Mary (Arend) Wonderly. On Feb. 14, 1928, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown, she married Norbert N. Kinn Sr. He died Oct. 12, 1977.

Surviving are three sons, Dale Kinn of Fostoria, Norbert Kinn Jr. of New Riegel and James Kinn of Alvada; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Vaughn of New Riegel and Mrs. Michael (Rita) Hark of Lima; 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sister Mary Loyola OSF of Tiffin; and a brother, Leo Wonderly of Maumee.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Herman Kinn; two brothers, Joseph and Richard Wonderly; three sisters, Anna Trausch, Sister Mary Cecilia and Marcella Stine; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Kinn, a homemaker, was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, its Rosary Altar Society and Memorial Choir.

She also was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, St. Peter Catholic Church, where she was a charter member, and its Rosary Altar Society.

Also a eucharistic minister, she had attended Tiffin University Business College.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be at 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the rosary will be recited at 8:45 and the Third Order of St. Francis memorial service will be at 4.

Memorials may be made to the church or in the form of Mass Intentions.

Beatrice Thelma Robenalt
Former North Sandusky resident

Beatrice Thelma Robenalt, 90, formerly of 466 N. Sandusky St., died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 1999, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Tiffin. Arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, where friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Irma Blanche Roark Twitchell
Former physical therapist

Irma Blanche Roark Twitchell, 95, died at 4:55 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 1999, in St. Francis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since 1998.

She was born in Washington, D.C., Nov. 16, 1903, to Robert and Lottie (Knowlton) Roark. Her husband, Robert E. Twitchell, whom she married Nov. 29, 1957, in Anaheim, Calif., is deceased.

Her only surviving relatives are W. Douglas Crawford and his wife, Evie, of Westerville; and a number of close friends.

A physical therapist, Mrs. Twitchell headed the physical therapy department at Bret Harte Regional Rehabilitation Center, San Joaquin, Calif.

In 1988 she came to live at the Elizabeth Schaefer Apartments from Vallecito, Calif.

A Memorial Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of St. Francis Home, with the Rev. Tom Ankenbrandt as celebrant.

There will be no visitation. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or St. Francis Home.

Mary Kentris

Mary Kentris, 78, of Findlay, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday May 29, 1999, in Fostoria Community Hospital. Arrangements are pending at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Centenarian/Retired Episcopal priest

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Old Trinity Episcopal Church, Tiffin, for The Rev. Charles Daniel Hering, 100, of Tiffin, who died Friday May 28, 1999, in St. Francis Home. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the Undercroft at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or the Charles D. "Bud" Hering Foundation, Tiffin. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Frederick M. Audritsh
Former mayor/Echo Press co-owner

Frederick M. Audritsh, 65, of 304 W. Adams St., Green Springs, died at 12:57 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 1999, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont, where he had been a patient for eight days.

He was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Green Springs, to the late Louis M. and Kay (Mathias) Audritsh. On April 8, 1953, in Fremont, he married Sue Ann Nord. She died May 3, 1998.

Survivors include: two sons, Fred M. Jr. and Phillip M. Audritsh, both of Green Springs; two grandchildren; three brothers, Louis M. Audritsh Jr. of Fremont, James A. Audritsh of Woodburn, Ore., and Don Martin of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a sister, Nadia Diefenthaler of Genoa.

Mr. Audritsh, a 1952 graduate of Green Springs High School, was the co-owner, with his wife,of Echo Press in Green Springs since January 1977.

He served as mayor of Green Springs from 1970 until April of this year. He also served 13 years on the Green Springs Village Council; was an active member of the Seneca/Sandusky Democratic Committee and interested and active in many community events including Right to Read Week and Special Olympics.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict in the Strategic Air Command, he also was a member of Green Springs United Methodist Church, Tiffin AMVETS, Clyde Eagles, Green Springs VFW, which he had served as commander, and Green Springs American Legion.

Services in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery, where military graveside services will be jointly conducted by Green Springs VFW and American Legion and the United Veterans Council of the Tiffin area.

Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to: Green Springs EMS, Pastoral Care of St. Francis and Sandusky County Hospice.

Lawrence W. 'Larry' Hancock
Retired Allied Signal millwright

Lawrence W. "Larry" Hancock, 84, of 11520 W. TR 116, Fostoria, died in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria, at 1:25 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 1999.

He was born in Kelly Station, Armstrong, Pa., May 20, 1915, to Harry W. and Margaret (Umburn) Hancock. His wife, Marjorie J. (Ehinger) Hancock, whom he married Feb. 6, 1936, in Perrysburg, Pa., survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a son, David L. Hancock of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. Josh (Janice) Brechtelsbauer of Stow and Mrs. Donald (Gloria) Lay of Delta; a sister, Margaret Hawkins of Mannington, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

A brother, Edwin Hancock, is deceased.

Mr. Hancock, a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, retired as a millwright in 1980 from Allied Signal, Fostoria, where he had been employed for 19 years.

He lived on a farm before moving to West Virginia and in 1933 moved to Toledo, where he worked for the Libbey Owens Ford Glass Co. for several years.

He was a long time Plymouth Rock bantam chicken breeder, especially the B.P. Rocks and raised and showed Rhode Island Reds and S.C.W. Leghorns. He also had O.E. Game bantams around and served as an A.P.A. and A.B.A. licensed judge receiving his license in 1976. He was instrumental in starting the Great Lakes Club and also helped the Northern Ohio Club until 1991, when his health failed. His poultry hobby covered almost 50 years.

The Rev. Branson J. Hawkes will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Thursday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be at 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 900 Van Buren St., Fostoria, OH 44830.
