Robert L. Hayes Sr.
Fostoria Autolite retiree

Robert L. Hayes Sr., 71, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at his residence at 194 First Ave.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., July 24, 1928, the son of George Edward and Bonnie I. (Counterman) Hayes. His wife, Elsie Marie (Dodson) Hayes, whom he married July 25, 1947, in Toledo, survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Robert L. Hayes Jr. of Curtice and David M. Hayes of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. David (Darlene) Fatzinger of Tiffin; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward T. Hayes of Riverside, Calif. and James A. Hayes of Tiffin; and two sisters, Mrs. Dan (Irene) Mohr of Harrietta, Mich. and Betty Belsik of Rossford.

Three brothers, Floyd, Albert and Kenneth Hayes and a sister, Mary Slotowiski, are deceased.

Mr. Hayes, who served as a commandant in the Civil Air Patrol Cadets during the late 1950s and early 1960s, retired as a journeyman machine repairman from Autolite in Fostoria after 28 years of service. He also served 10 years as an apprentice machine repairman.

Also a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a member of the Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and treasurer and the Reyes Syndrome Foundation 52 Ohio Chapter, where he served as president.

The Rev. Fred Edens will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with. burial following in Fairmont cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veteran's Council.

Visitation at the funeral home is 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Home Care or the Reyes Syndrome Foundation.

Paula G. Rhoden
Retired insurance company co-owner

Paula G. Rhoden, 63, of 213 1/2 Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, died at her residence Saturday morning, July 31, 1999.

She was born in Vanceburg, Ky., Feb. 17, 1936, to the late Ernest and Dorothy (Pell) Rhoden.

Survivors include: three sons, Patrick Lay of Byesville, Michael Lay of Cincinnati and D. Barry Sanchez of Columbus; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and five sisters, Mrs. Betty Reed of Bluffton, Mrs. Gerald (Rosalind) Swankhouse, Mrs. Rhetta Bennett, Mrs. Robert (Dianna) Kelbley and Mrs. Horst (Sue) Grelich, all of Upper Sandusky.

A sister, Molly G. Forry, also is deceased.

Ms. Rhoden, a member of the Methodist Faith, was a licensed independent insurance agent since the mid-1950s. In 1970, she became the co-owner of Sunshine Insurance Agency in Upper Sandusky, retiring in 1997.

She attended Upper Sandusky High School and Tiffin University and worked part time at Woody's Restaurant, Upper Sandusky, as a bookkeeper and hostess.

Ms. Rhoden, who was very artistic and enjoyed cooking, was a former member of the Upper Sandusky Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of the United Way.

Services in the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, will be conducted by the Rev. Lenn Geiger at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Lawrence L. Lash
Retired Nickle's Bakery employee

Lawrence L. Lash, 62, of East Yeasting St., Gibsonburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.

He was born May 22, 1937, near Helena, to the late Clayton and Eleanor (Sump) Lash. On Aug. 28, 1970, in Tiffin, he married Constance McKeen, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Robert Lash and Gary Reedy, both of Gibsonburg and Gerald McKeen of Tiffin; three daughters, Joy Bartlett, Patty Stein and Carla Bartlett, all of Fremont; a brother, James Lash of Bryan; three sisters, Donna Wilhelm of Fremont, Sharon Woessner of Gibsonburg and Suzanne Sleek of Helena; 18 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A grandson also is deceased.

A member of the Fremont Eagles, Mr. Lash had been employed as a laborer at Tony's and then Nickle's Bakery in Fremont, until his retirement in 1996.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Nopper-Veh Funeral Home, Gibsonburg. Burial will be in Metzgar cemetery, Helena.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, where Eagles services will be at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Helen M. Woodruff-Yocum
Fostoria homemaker

Helen M. Woodruff-Yocum, 82, of 240 Hissong St., Fostoria, died in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, at 12:22 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1999.

She was born in Fostoria, March 12, 1917. Her husband, Ervin Woodruff, whom she married in September 1934, died in July 1952. She later married James Yocum, and he also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: a son, Ervin H. Woodruff Jr. of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Nolan (Judy) Carman of Brea, Calif.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Yocum was a homemaker.

The Rev. David P. Chapman of the Fostoria Baptist Church, will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Friday graveside service in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

There will be no visitation. The Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Dry Haven, 217 W. Center St., Fostoria, OH 44830.

Floyd C. Coleman
Atlas Crankshaft retiree

Former Fostoria resident, Floyd C. Coleman, 90, a resident of St. Francis Home, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born in New Riegel, April 21, 1909, to Stephen and Theresa B. (Frederick) Coleman.

Surviving are four sisters, Ida Bentz of Fostoria, Fredricka Wagner of New Riegel, Zita Wickiser of Arcadia and Bea Morrison of Tiffin; and a brother, Kenneth Coleman of Wapakoneta.

Also preceding him in death were seven brothers, Lawrence, Clarence, Edmund, Stephen, Silverius, William and Francis Coleman; and two sisters, Angeline Bentz and Viola Dickens.

Mr. Coleman, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1974 from the Atlas Crankshaft, Fostoria. He also was a lifelong Seneca County farmer.

He was a former member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria; and St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel American Legion, Moose Lodge 872 and the Catholic Knights of Ohio, all of New Riegel.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Boniface Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10:10 a.m. Burial will be in parish cemetery, where military honors will be conducted at the graveside by New Riegel American Legion.

Visitation at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, where a Christian Wake service will be at 3 p.m. and Catholic Knights of Ohio memorial services will be at 8 p.m. followed by American Legion memorial services.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Alfred J. Heilman
Retired electrician

Alfred J. Heilman, 70, died at 4:35 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at his home at 20 Sunny Lane.

He was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Tiffin, to John Karl and Elizabeth M. (Stenn) Heilman. His first wife, Mary Brown, whom he married June 14, 1950, in St. Wendelin Church, Fostoria, survives in West Virginia. He later married Wanda Butterfield, Sept. 22, 1979, and she preceded him in death in May 1993. His present wife, Ann M. (Whitlow) Heilman, whom he married April 15,1996, in Tiffin, survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Ms. Rosanne M. Heilman of Ypsilanti, Mich. and Mrs. Michael (Patricia Lynn) Wanstreet of Philippi, W.Va.; a step-son, Hugh Rathburn of Tiffin; a brother, Herbert Heilman of Tiffin; four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

A brother, William, also is deceased.

Mr. Heilman, the owner of Heilman Radio and Electric, was an electrician with IBEW Local Union 8, Rossford, for 45 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, Tiffin Moose Lodge 846 and Eagles Aerie 402.

Services in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be conducted by the Rev. Michael Wanstreet at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.

Oletha Mae Martin
Fostoria Industries retiree

Oletha Mae Martin, 76, of Streeter Road, Port Clinton, died at 12:26 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, in Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton.

She was born April 20, 1923, in Fostoria, to Thomas and Cleva (Gibson) Corner. On Aug. 19, 1942, in Tiffin, she married Fredrick G. Martin. He survives in Port Clinton.

Other survivors include: a son, Thomas Martin of Fostoria; four daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Janet) Nolan of Wayne, Mrs. Thomas (Judy) Pessell of Arcadia, Mrs. Rick (Kathy) Cooper of Findlay and Mrs. James (Jenny) Reuhl of Toledo; a brother, Dale Corner of Findlay; three sisters, Betty Wonders of Alvada, Evelyn Twark of Muskegon, Mich. and Margie Desormeau of Ft. Myers, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A grandchild is deceased.

Mrs. Martin, a 1942 graduate of Arcadia High School, retired in 1985 from the Fostoria Industries. She also was a former beautician in the Fostoria area.

Graveside services in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia, will be at 11 a.m. Friday with Barbara Kreishner officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria,is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Wayne E. Fansler
CSX locomotive engineer

Wayne E. Fansler, 49, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at his home on Laskey Road, Toledo.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann (Stahl) Fansler, who grew up in Tiffin; a daughter, Jennifer Fansler of Toledo; three sons, Matthew of Portland, Ore., and David and Kevin Fansler, both of Toledo; his parents Mr. F.O. and Velma Fansler of Rossford; and two sisters, Kay Fansler of Rossford and Mrs. Dale (Karen) Marshfield of Durban, South Africa.

Mr. Fansler, a locomotive engineer for CSX Railroad, Walbridge, for 30 years, was an avid softball player and former coach of the Saints softball Team in Toledo. He also was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Services in Emmanuel Baptist Church, Toledo, will be at 1 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in Ft. Meigs Union cemetery, Perrysburg.

Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Tammy L. Blust
Denny's Restaurant waitress

Tammy L. Blust, 34, of 601 Park St., Republic, died at 12:26 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, on Seneca SR 67, north of Melmore near TR 165 in an auto accident.

She was born in Willard, May 27, 1965, to Michael and Jane (Krupp) Hossler. They survive in rural Green Springs. Her husband, John Blust, whom she married in the First Baptist Church, Tiffin, also survives.

Survivors also include: two children, Nathan Allen Mullins and Cortney Elaine Blust, both of Republic; her grandmother, Winnona Krupp of Tiffin; and two sisters, Mrs. Michael (Michelle) Niederhauser of Sycamore and Mrs. Scott (Paula) Tieman of Fort Wayne Wright, Alaska.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Orlin Krupp and Paul and Winifred Hossler; and a sister, Kathryn Elizabeth Hossler.

Mrs. Blust, a 1983 graduate of Old Fort High School, was employed as a waitress at Denny's Restaurant in Tiffin. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tiffin.

The Rev. Al Wilkes will be the officiant at the 1:30 p.m. Friday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home is 6-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made in care of the children.

Edward W. Agerter
Lifetime Tiffin resident

Edward W. Agerter, 83, 108 Warren Ave., died in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999.

He was born in Detroit, Mich., Jan. 17, 1916, to William and Florence (Setzler) Agerter. His wife, Joyce (Alley) Agerter, whom he married Sept. 17, 1949, in Tiffin, survives.

Also surviving are a son, John W. Agerter of Oregon, Ohio, a brother, Harold Agerter of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Heidi and Holly Agerter and a step-grandson, Bill St .John; and three great-grandchildren.

A sister, Gladys Fulton and three brothers, Robert, Ralph and Clayton Agerter, preceded him in death.

Mr. Agerter, a member of the Protestant faith, retired March 1, 1983, as a wheelmaker, kiln placer and night watchman from ITT (Sterling) Grinding Wheel, after 33 years of employment.

A Signal Air Corps, U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 2858.

Services conducted by the Rev. William Smith will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery at a later date, with military graveside services conducted by the United Veterans Council..

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Mercy Van.

James R. Perry
Former Sandusky County commissioner

James R. Perry, 78, of Sandusky CR 237, Vickery, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont.

He was born June 8, 1921, in Sandusky County, to Roy Morris and Clara Ione (Waldon) Perry. On April 22, 1944, in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Fremont, he married Margaret Batesole. She survives.

Other survivors include: 10 children, William Perry of Kansas City, Mo., James H. Perry of Northville, Mich., Mrs. Wayne (Carol) Barb of Johnstown, Ohio, Patrick Perry of Gibsonburg, Mrs. Tim (Martha) Riesterer of Castalia, Any M. Perry of Ann Arbor, Mich., Michael L. Perry of Lewis Center, Mark E. Perry of Clyde, Douglas L. Perry of Laingsburg, Mich. and David A. Perry of Vickery; a brother, Rodney Perry of Vickery; and 17 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, Robert, Thomas and Howard Perry; and three sisters, Molly Keith, Nancy Drown and Lindlou Perry.

Mr. Perry, a Townsend Township farmer, was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde.

He also was a member of the Sandusky County Farm Bureau, Loyal Pals Farm Bureau Council, which he served as past president; the Democratic Party and Central Committee and a former member of Margaretta School Board 1968-82, which he also served as past president.

A 1939 graduate of Townsend High School, he was a member and past president of the Northwest Ohio School Board Association; adviser of Townsend Blue Ribbon Boys 4-H Club, honorary chapter farmer of Townsend FFA; a member of Castalia Lions Club and Townsend Grange, where he was a 60-year member.

Mr. Perry was recognized as "Dad of Dad's" of Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity at Ohio State University in 1972; served as Sandusky County Commissioner 1983-86 and was instrumental in the initiation of the new Sandusky county jail and plans for the airport.

Monsignor Edward Dunn will be the celebrant at the 10:30 a.m. Friday Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde. Interment will be in Parkhurst cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, where a Christian Wake service will be at 9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church or Townsend Volunteer Fire Department, Vickery.
