Joy Belle Dally
Died: Monday, May 12, 2003
Age: 59

Joy Belle Dally, 59, of Van Wert died late Monday evening, May 12, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne, Ind.

She was born Sept. 14, 1943, in Fredericksburg, Va., the daughter of Troas Dally Jacoby, who survives in Kendalville, Ind., and the late Herman R.B. Dally.

Ms. Dally was employed as a teacher in the Lincolnview School system. She was a graduate of Defiance High School, received her bachelor of science degree from Defiance College and her master of science degree from Bowling Green State University. She formerly taught at Continental and Delta. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Ohio Education Association and the Van Wert County Harness Horsemen Association.

Survivors include a brother, Herman (Judy) Dally of Defiance; a stepsister, Pat (George) Holmes of Wolcottville, Ind.; a niece, Ashley Dally of Defiance, and a nephew, Martin Dally of Defiance.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Sanford Jacoby.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brickner Funeral Home, the Rev. Sam Schroeder officiating. Graveside committal services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, immediately following.

Calling hours are 9:30 a.m. till time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are to St. John's United Church of Christ, Defiance, or to a charity of donor's choice.

Lauretta Brooks
Died: Monday, May 12, 2003
Age: 94

PAYNE - Lauretta Brooks, 94, of Payne died Monday, May 12, 2003, at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home, Payne.

She was born Oct. 31, 1908, in Chandler, Ind., the daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie (Fisher) Brooks.

Miss Brooks was a retired school teacher who taught at Columbus Grove Local School.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Brooks, in 2000.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (EDT) Friday at Slade Funeral Home, Payne, the Rev. Amy Haines officiating. Burial will be in Wiltsie Cemetery, Payne.

Calling hours are after 5 p.m. (EDT) Thursday at the funeral home where an Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Betty Dean Mihm
Died: Monday, May 12, 2003
Age: 76

ROCKFORD - Betty Dean Mihm, 76, died at 8 a.m. (EDT) Monday, May 12, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.

She was born July 3, 1926, in Mercer County, the daughter of the late Dillon and Goldie (Watkins) Jordan. On Oct. 12, 1946, she married Ernest Mihm, who survives.

Mrs. Mihm was a housewife.

Other survivors include:

Daughters - Diane (Dave Jr.) Sheets of Mendon and Elaine (Jim) Geyer of Gallaway

One grandson, Davy (Erica) Sheets, also survives in Mendon.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Mike Berne officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and an hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.

Edgar D. Schaadt
Died: Monday, May 12, 2003
Age: 84

Edgar D. Schaadt, 84, of Van Wert, died at 1:45 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert.

He was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Rockford, the son of the late Joseph and Clarice (Mann) Schaadt. On May 22, 1942, he married Dorothy Riley, who survives.

Mr. Schaadt was a graduate of the Cleveland School of Embalming. He was employed at the former Vale Funeral Home in Celina and then at the Vore Knoll Funeral Home in Van Wert. He later worked in parts inventory at the former Purdy Motor Sales in Van Wert and then at Van Wert Auto Supply. He then became a route salesman for Steel Automotive Sales in Lima for many years. Following that he worked in the parts department at Delphos Chevrolet for several years. Later he drove cars for Statewide Ford in Van Wert and was employed at Brickner Funeral Home.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in Germany, he was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, also in Van Wert. He served for many years on the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kay (Boyd) Kline of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Jo Samples of Van Wert; one granddaughter, Dee Doss of Campbellsville, Ky., and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jay D. Kline and Laura Brady, and a sister, Dee Vogt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Brickner Funeral Home, the Rev. Edward W. Jillson officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, with graveside rites conducted by combined honors unit of American Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is American Diabetes. Association.

Adah Maney
Died: Sunday, May 11, 2003
Age: 103

LAGRANGE, Ind. - Adah Maney, 103, of LaGrange died at 2:40 p.m. (Indiana time) Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Life Care Center of LaGrange.

She was born Jan. 19, 1900, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late George and Emma Louise (Leser) Wilson. On Sept. 6, 1917, in Lima, she married Gayle H. Maney, who preceded her in death in December 1989.

Mrs. Maney was a homemaker and a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 47 of Fort Wayne for 59 years. She lived in Fort Wayne, Ind., from 1917 to 1953 and at Adams Lake, Wolcottville, Ind., from 1953-1997.

Survivors include two nephews, John (Margaret) Maney of Van Wert and Kevin Maney of Columbus; two great-nephews, Robert Hills of Pittsford, Mich., and Leonard Shibley of Ossian, Ind.; a niece, Doris Davis of Hudson, Mich.; one great-niece, Lealone Loyd of Antwerp.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, three brothers and a great-nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. (Indiana time) Thursday at Frurip-May Funeral Home, LaGrange, the Revs. Gary Stees and Richard Fredrick officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Union Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 10 a.m. (Indiana time) to time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church.

Helen Dilling McNeal
Died: Sunday, May 11, 2003
Age: 77

PAYNE - Helen Dilling McNeal, 77, of Payne, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Convoy Care Center, Convoy.

She was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Monroeville, Ind., the daughter of the late Carl and Minerva (Louden) Baumert. She married Delbert Dilling, who preceded her in death in 1961. Her second husband, Paul McNeal, died in 1997.

Survivors include:

Son - Arthur Dilling of Nashville, Tenn.

Daughter - Sandra Patterson of New Haven, Ind.

Brothers - LeRoy Baumert of Ruskin, Fla., and William Baumert of New Haven

Sister - Doris Doty of Woodburn, Ind.

Five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (EDT) Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Payne, the Rev. Joseph Allen officiating. Burial will be in Lehman Cemetery, Payne.

Calling hours are after 5 p.m. (EDT) Tuesday at Slade Funeral Home, Payne.

Bessie P. Snavely
Died: Saturday, May 10, 2003
Age: 99

MENDON - Bessie P. Snavely, 99, of Mendon died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Colonial Nursing Center, Rockford.

She was born Oct. 22, 1903, in Center Township, Mercer County, the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Faith (Howick) Lutz. On Nov. 29, 1922, she married Glenn C. Snavely, who preceded her in death on March 24, 1974.

Mrs. Snavely had formerly worked at Westinghouse Electric, Lima, at several Mendon area restaurants and was a homemaker.

Survivors include:

Daughter - Mary (Clayton) Adams of Mendon

Brother - Dan Lutz of Kerman, Calif.

Stepsister - Dorothy Hartung of Celina

Four "special nieces", Nora Lee Smith, Bonnie Hume, Peggy Hodge, Dolores Thatcher; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn J. Snavely; three daughters, Winifred Darras, Virginia Muhlenkamp and Phyllis Blythe; a granddaughter, Diana Adams Jilek; one grandson, Mark Snavely; five brothers, Harold, Roger, Cliff, Marion and Tom Lutz; three sisters, Mary Simon, Grace  Johnson and Margaret Denney; her stepmother, Irene Lutz, and two stepbrothers, Clarence and Hugh Burnett.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Mendon, the Rev. Glenn Masser officiating. Burial will be in North Grove Cemetery, Celina.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
