DELPHOS - John Robert Kill
Died: Tuesday, October 22, 2002
Age: 75

DELPHOS - John Robert Kill, 75, died at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

He was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Delphos, the son of the late John V. and Viola (Lang) Kill. On Aug. 4, 1951, in Ottoville, he married Felicitas "Woody" Gasser, who survives in Delphos.

Mr. Kill had worked at New Delphos Manufacturing, retired from Meadow Gold, Lima, after 34 years of service, then worked for 10 years at Appeal Manufacturing, Delphos.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035 in Delphos and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 471, also in Delphos. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he attended St. John's High School, was an avid bowler and St. John Blue Jay and Notre Dame fan, coached Delphos Braves Little League for many years as well as coached the Delphos Acme Team.

Other survivors include five sons, Jack (Joan) Kill of Norcross, Ga., Gary (Diane) Kill of Van Wert and Ken (Mary Jo) Kill, Dave (Diane) Kill and Ron (Deb) Kill, all of Delphos; a daughter, Diane (Ted) Wells of Delphos; two sisters, Angela Kill and Rita (Ollie) Sever, both of Delphos; one sister-in-law, Pauline Kill of Delphos;19 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norbert, Bernard "Ben" and Paul "Pidge" Kill, and a sister, Sister Roberta Kill, S.N.D.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Delphos Veterans Council.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Preferred memorial is St. John's Teacher Endowment Fund.

HOLGATE - Wayne R Moore
Died: Tuesday, October 22, 2002
Age: 69

HOLGATE - Wayne R. Moore, 69, of Holgate died at 8:35 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, in Holgate.

He was born March 26, 1933, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of the late Francis and Nora (Mumy) Moore. On Sept. 1, 1957, he married Deloris Price, who survives in Holgate.

Mr. Moore retired in 1998 after 26 years in Research & Development at Diehl Corp. He was a member of Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church, Pleasant Bend, where he had served as trustee, Sunday School superintendent, chairman of Administrative Council, Sunday School teacher and financial secretary. He was a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School class and also served as lay delegate. He served on the Holgate Local School Board of Education for 18 1/2 years and was a member of the Holgate Lions Club and the following Masonic bodies: Zenobia Temple of Toledo, RAM Ensawocsa Chapter 89 of Defiance, Royal & Select Masons 73, F&AM 218 and Knights Templar 54, all of Van Wert, and Northwest Shrine Club. A 1951 graduate of Van Wert High School, he was a member of Turkey Foot Trotters Western Square Dance Club and in the past had been involved in Holgate Boy Scout Troop 87 as scoutmaster.

Other survivors include two sons, Michael Moore of Ida, Mich., and Max Moore of Columbus; a daughter, Lynne (Karl) Hirzel of Ottawa; one brother, Noel Moore of Bradenton, Fla., a sister, Kathleen Moore of Sylvania, and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church, the Rev. Deb Berry officiating.

Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. Friday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance.

Preferred memorials are Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church, Henry County Hospice or Holgate Lions Disaster Fund.

DELPHOS - James W Stratton
Died: Monday, October 21, 2002
Age: 75

DELPHOS - James W. Stratton, 75, of Delphos died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Cridersville Health Care Center.

He was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Lima, the son of the late Otto R. and Mary (Joseph) Stratton.

Mr. Stratton, a U.S. Army veteran, was a truck driver for Kissel Coal Co. He was a 1945 graduate of Lima Central High School and a member of Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren, Lima.

Survivors include four sisters, Ruby Mihm and Isabelle (William) Houston, both of Lima, Helen Bennett of Ocala, Fla., and Mary Thitoff of Delphos

Graveside services will be held at Sugar Creek Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Marty Moyer officiating. military grave rites will be conducted by Delphos Veterans Council.

There will be no visitation.

Preferred memorial is Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren.

DELAWARE
Died: Sunday, October 20, 2002

DELAWARE, Ohio - Samantha "Sam" Marie James, 15, of Delaware, died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Children's Hospital, Columbus.

She was born June 30, 1987, in Ashland, the daughter of Tom and Pam (Keith) James of Delaware.

Miss James was a sophomore at Delaware Hayes High School. Originally from Ashland, she lived in Sidney for two years, moving to Delaware in 1992. She was a member of the Delaware Hayes High School tennis team and St. Mark's Lutheran Church. She was very witty and smart and known for her beautiful smile. She enjoyed socializing with friends, shopping and reading.

In addition to her parents in Delaware, she is survived by a sister, Sarah, at home; paternal grandmother, Bonnie James of Ashland; maternal grandparents, Milo and Helen Keith of New Knoxville; great-grandmothers, Florence Ellinger and Mary Keith of Van Wert, and numerous friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Delaware, the Rev. William Saunders officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Thursday at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (State Route 36), Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Delaware County Humane Society, 4920 State Route 37 East, Delaware, OH 43015.

Adrian A Kirby
Died: Friday, November 30, 2001
Age: 87

Adrian A. Kirby, 87, of Van Wert, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 25, 2002.

He married Betty Kirby, who survives in Van Wert.

Rev. Kirby served as a minister for several United Methodist churches including Harrisburg UMC, Salem Heights UMC and New Morfield UMC. He also served as a chaplain to Orient State Mental Institution for 28 years.

He served as the president of the Chaplin Association Ohio for many years.

In addition to being an avid golfer, Mr. Kirby loved to travel with his wife in the their motor home throughout the United States.

Other survivors include a daughter, Karen (Gary) Corcoran of Van Wert; two sons, Kerry (Diane) Kirby of Austin, Texas and Keith (Dawn) Kirby of Orient; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kendell; a sister; and four brothers.

Calling hours are from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grove City United Methodist Church, 2684 Columbus St., Grove City, the Rev. Mike Laird officiating. Funeral services will immediately follow. Burial will be in Grove City Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes Victorian Village Chapel, Columbus.

ST. MARYS - Fern Louise Alt Sealscott
Died: Friday, November 30, 2001
Age: 81

ST. MARYS - Fern Louise Alt Sealscott, 81, of St. Marys, formerly of Chattanooga, died at 9:46 a.m. Sunday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born March 29, 1921, in Duck Creek Township, Rockford, to William B. Oakley and Amber C. Michael Oakley.

She married Leo Sealscott in 1997 and he survives. She had worked at the Barr Store in Celina, and after its closing, worked the past seven years at Shirley's Sweets in Celina. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Rockford, and a member of the Ladies' Aid at the church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three stepsons: John Sealscott of St. Marys, Jim and Pat Sealscott of New Bremen and Jerry Sealscott of Celina. A sister, Eileen Uncapher of Van Wert, also survives. Also surviving are four grandchildren, six step grandchildren, four great grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren. A son, Gene Alt and two brothers, Robert (Bud) and Ervin Oakley, are deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ on Oregon Road, Rockford, with the Rev. John Fleming officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford and on Thursday, one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Gloria June Etter Jones
Died: Wednesday, December 18, 2002
Age: 64

Gloria June Etter Jones, 64, Continental, died Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at 3:45 p.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. She was born on June 15, 1938, in Dupont, the daughter of Howard O. "Red" Etter and Anna Mary Shafer.

She is survived by her mother, Anna Mary "Babe" Etter, Dupont; two sons, Mike (Pam) Jones, Continental, Craig (Betsy) Jones, Tracy, California; three daughters, Cindy (Steve) Sterling, Dupont, Roxy (David) Chivington, Trenton, Ohio, Karen (Larry) Donaldson, Continental; two sisters, Jean (Don) McKibben, Continental, Shirley (John) Mansfield, Continental; two brothers, Lyle (Phyllis) Etter, Dupont, Jack (Caroline) Etter, Continental; 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Jones, who she married on June 5, 1955; and by her father, Howard O. Etter.

She was a member of the Dupont Church of the Brethren and was a former member of the Wisterman United Methodist Church and the Quarter Century Club of Phillips. She was retired from Phillips Display Components.

She was known to her family and friends for baking and gardening and was a big fan of all her grandchildren's sporting activities.

Visitation will be Friday, 2 to 8 p.m. at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental and Saturday, one hour prior to services at the church. Services will be Saturday, December, 21, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Dupont Church of the Brethren, Dupont. Officiating will be the Reverends Terry Porter, David Chivington, Aaron Chivington and Ryan Chivington. Burial will be in the Monroe Cemetery in Continental, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Continental Blue and Gold Club or donor's choice.

ROCKFORD - Joseph Tullis
Died: Wednesday, December 18, 2002
Age: 80

ROCKFORD - Joseph Tullis, 80, Rockford died Thursday, December 18, 2002 at 2:05 a.m. at Colonial Nursing Home in Rockford. He was born January 24, 1922 in Lima to Jessie James Tullis and Grace Victory Tullis, both deceased. He was married on March 14, 1946 to Martha A. "Marty" Waldron Tullis who preceded him in death on October 12, 2002.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Michael) Shrider of Rockford; a son, John Tullis of Rockford; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Tullis and one brother, William Tullis.

Mr. Tullis retired as a heavy equipment operator for Ridge Quarry. He had previously worked for the State of Ohio Department of Transportation and had worked for 15 years for the former Neon Company in Lima. Mr. Tullis was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a life member of VFW Post 5803 in Van Wert and American Legion Post 178. He was also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 886 in Van Wert. Prior to WWII he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Utah.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2002 at the Brickner Funeral Home. military graveside rites by Combined Honors Unit of VFW Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178, Van Wert. Reverent Michael Berne will officiate. Visitation will be held at Brickner Funeral Home on Saturday, from 4-8 p.m. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society and Colonial Nursing Home.

ZEPHYRHILLS
Died: Wednesday, December 18, 2002

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - Grace Marie Brown, 73, of Zephyrhills, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 2, 1929, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Farris and Vera (Langdon) Harkins.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Grace Family Church and to her family she was the "World's Greatest Mom."

Survivors include three sons, David Brown of Zephyrhills, Daniel Brown and his son, Joshuah Brown of Monterey, Va., and John Brown of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Lois Miller of Britton, Mich, and her children, Jeff Miller and Jennifer Miller.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Jack E. Brown, and two brothers, Earl and James Harkins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert.

Calling is one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is to the family, c/o of David Brown, 6032 12th St., Zephyrhills, FL 33542.

Evelyn J Ripley
Died: Tuesday, December 17, 2002
Age: 88

Evelyn J. Ripley, 88, formerly of Kenwick Drive, died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at Convoy Care Center in Convoy.

She was born April 25, 1914, in Plainfield, Iowa, the daughter of the late Edwin and Catherine (Smull) Smith. In 1940, she married Marvin G. Ripley, who preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1990.

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Griffith of Van Wert and a son, Harold (Judy) Ripley of Shell Rock, Iowa; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Three brothers are deceased.

Mrs. Ripley was a homemaker and attended the United Church of Christ in Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 23, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa. Friends may call Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert.

Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimers Foundation or the Convoy Care Center Activities Fund.
