Joseph Glassmeyer Sr., Messer executive
Joseph D. Glassmeyer Sr., a former executive vice president of operations for Frank Messer and Sons Construction Co., died Sunday.
Mr. Glassmeyer, 74, of Blue Ash, helped remold downtown with the expansion of the Procter & Gamble Co. office complex and the Fountain Square underground parking garage. He also directed construction for three residence halls at University of Cincinnati and the Quality Hotel Central in Norwood.
Mr. Glassmeyer retired in 1989 but remained active in the company. He worked his way up the ranks at Messer Construction, starting as a water boy, then laborer, carpenter, foreman, superintendent and project manager before being promoted to executive vice president.
An active member and lector of All Saints Church, Mr. Glassmeyer attended Mass daily and volunteered countless hours at the church and school. He also volunteered at Bethany House and other charities and organizations.
Mr. Glassmeyer was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, John Murphy Post.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Diersing Glassmeyer; sons Joseph D. Jr., of Rossmoyne, Terrence J. of Mt. Washington, Patrick J. of Rossmoyne and Daniel of Mason; daughters, Mary S. Howard of Kenwood, Theresa M. Vomacka of Oakley, Michelle M. Martin of Symmes Township, and Elizabeth M. Mullikin of Deer Park; brothers, Robert A. of Reading and Richard J. of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Charles Shipley, Ohio public safety chief
Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Charles Shipley died Saturday morning from a brain tumor at his home in Columbus. He was 54.
Mr. Shipley, who was appointed safety director in 1991 by Gov. George Voinovich, oversaw the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Emergency Management Agency and the Division of Emergency Medical Services.
"He was a great leader whose accomplishments in the field of public safety benefited all Ohioans," Voinovich said in a statement.
Mr. Shipley underwent brain surgery in 1995 and had been on disability leave.
He leaves his wife, Jana, and two children, David and Carli. Services are Tuesday at the First Community Church in Columbus.

HOWARD S. WEBSTER, firefighter
Howard S. Webster of Covedale will be remembered as a hard-working, dedicated Cincinnati firefighter and family man.
Mr. Webster, 86, a retired captain with the Cincinnati Fire Division, died Wednesday. He retired in 1968 after 32 years of service. He was a charter member of the Cincinnati Firefighters Federal Credit Union.
He leaves four grandsons.

Howard Webster, retired firefighter
Howard S. Webster, 82, a retired captain with the Cincinnati Fire Division and credit union executive, died Wednesday.
Mr. Webster, of Covedale, was a charter member of Cincinnati Ohio Firefighters Credit Union and served as treasurer, managing the credit union from 1969 to 1977. Until he retired last June, he served as secretary-treasurer.
Mr. Webster was an active member of union Locals 476 and 48. He was a director of the Cincinnati Chapter of Credit Unions and a member of the Credit Union Executive Society.
He leaves four grandsons, Mark Tepe, Gregg Tepe, Mike Tepe and Glenn Tepe, whom he raised after the death of his daughter, Barbara Ann Tepe. He also leaves seven great-grandchildren.

Services for MARCUS DION FORTE, of Cincinnati, a 22-year-old student at American Baptist College, will be at noon Saturday at Norman Chapel, Spring Grove Cemetery. Randall Marshall, accountant
Randall Marshall, 90, a retired accountant with the city of Cincinnati, died Tuesday.
Mr. Marshall, of Latonia, Ky., had worked with the city's finance department and was an accountant with the Internal Revenue Service and Kahn's Meat Packing Co., Cincinnati. His wife, Hazel E. Marshall, died in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, D. Gail Mark of Cincinnati; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family, with cremation at Hillside Chapel.
Arrangements are through Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
