Willis Forbes Jr., builder, craftsman
Besides building many of Cincinnati's finer homes, construction company owner Willis Forbes Jr. also built a life of accomplishments both professional and personal.
Mr. Forbes, 89, died at his College Hill home Thursday.
Mr. Forbes was a World War II veteran of the Navy's construction battalion Seabees. He has been recognized as College Hill's oldest continuous resident by the community's historical society.
He valued quality and longevity, and his family said he remained active in the construction and renovation business after his retirement.
One of his sons, Mikal Forbes, said "dad was an accomplished craftsman. He was called in to repair and restore older construction methods in buildings, even long after he retired."
Mr. Forbes was a member of the first graduating class of Walnut Hills High School in 1925. He attended the University of Cincinnati College of Architecture but had to leave school before graduating to run the family business when his father grew ill.
