Sister Mary Dolores, teacher
Sister Mary Dolores Beringer, 99, who taught at Guardian Angels Elementary School in Mt. Washington for 67 years, died Wednesday.
The Ft. Thomas, Ky., native made her final vows in 1924 and was a first-grade teacher most of her career. She enjoyed music and singing and teaching children about the lives of the saints.
"I love to work with children," she once said in an interview. "To watch them learn and to see their faces is such a great joy."
Sister Mary Dolores also was involved in missions to Native American children. She retired in 1985 and tutored part-time until 1988.

James N. Anno, nuclear engineer
James Nelson Anno, 63, of Westwood, died Tuesday at his home.
A professor of nuclear engineering at the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Anno was founder and president of Research Dynamics Inc., and invented the component porous lithium oxide, which is used to lubricate nuclear reactors.
He was a nuclear technology consultant for the federal government during the Cold War, and served as a consultant for NASA on the Apollo 11 and 13 flights.
Mr. Anno leaves his wife, Angela Mary Labmeier Anno; sons, James David Anno of Batavia, Ohio, and Jefferson Nelson Anno of Anderson Township; daughter, Jennifer Anno Butler of Kittitas, Wash.; stepsons, Joseph Sicking of Mt. Washington and Jeremy Sicking of Westwood; stepdaughter, Sara Sicking of Westwood; and two grandchildren.

Deborah Pfetzing, beloved teacher
Deborah Pfetzing, 43, of East Walnut Hills, a teacher and community activist, died Tuesday at Christ Hospital.
Mrs. Pfetzing taught English literature at St. Ursula Academy for 20 years and had just begun a new position at St. Xavier High School.
In 1989 she received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to participate in "Shakespeare: Text and Theater" in Stratford-
Upon-Avon, England. She returned to England twice a year after that to participate in conferences with the Royal Shakespeare Co. and the National Theatre. She arranged for and conducted student trips to England annually.
Mrs. Pfetzing taught all levels of English at St. Ursula and is remembered as an extraordinary teacher of Honors English I, said Fran Romweber, St. Ursula principal.
A graduate of Walnut Hills High School and the University of Cincinnati, Mrs. Pfetzing received many awards for her work in the field of literature, including a Fellowship for Independent Studies in the Humanities. She served as a consultant for the National Endowment for the Humanities, was a fellow of the Council for Basic Education in Washington, D.C., and is listed in the 1993 edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
At St. Ursula, Mrs. Pfetzing served on the Professional Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.
"She was such an influential person in my life," said recent St. Ursula graduate Melissa Masterson. "A wonderful teacher who completely changed me and my writing style."
Greg Saelens, chair of the English department at St. Ursula, said: "Debbie Pfetzing was the finest teacher I have ever known; she developed skills as well as knowledge in her students and she inspired, required and received the very best from her students. She was a kind and generous colleague and friend who was always ready to exchange ideas about teaching or to help mentor a new teacher."
Mrs. Pfetzing had many interests, including French food and wine, flowers, Victorian homes and her family. She traveled extensively in Europe.
She leaves her husband, Edwin; parents, Pat and Edwin Schneuer; brother, Stephan Schneuer; and grandparents, Robert and Dorothy Lacefield.

Oxford businessman William Meyer
Businessman and perennial Miami University booster William David "Bang" Meyer, 74, died Sunday.
A fixture in Oxford, Ohio, for decades, the 1948 Miami University graduate ran Bang's Junction House, a memorabilia-filled bar selling "Bangburgers" and catering largely to students.
Mr. Meyer's great grandfather, George H. Meyer, owned Oxford's first saloon and hotel, Junction House. Mr. Meyer also operated an Oxford restaurant called Teepee and sold sandwiches to students from a truck parked by dormitories.
He earned a Purple Heart while serving in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Meyer was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Mary Catholic Church in Oxford.
His active interest in politics prompted an unsuccessful run for an Ohio Senate seat in 1972.
He leaves his wife, Mary, and a daughter, Martha Meyer Payne of Westerville, Ohio.

Robert Miller Lollar, noted UC chemist
Robert Miller Lollar, Ph.D., a former technical director of the Tanners Council of America Research Laboratory at the University of Cincinnati and a professor emeritus, died Tuesday at age 82.
Mr. Lollar joined the lab in 1941 as an associate professor, then left in 1959 to accept a job with Armour Leather Co. as technical director, but returned to UC in 1975.
He was named the 1981 Leather Manufacturer Man of the Year award and the 1994 Fred O'Flaherty Service Award of the American Chemists Association. He has been listed in Who's Who in the World. Mr. Lollar also was a deacon, an elder and superintendent of the Sunday school of Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church.
He leaves daughters Janet Ruth Schneider of Munroe Falls, Ohio, and Katherine Louise Lollar of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Katherine L. Rowland of Sarasota, Fla.; and four grandchildren. His wife, Dorothy Williams Lollar, preceded him in death.
