Frank I. Lazarus, executive with Shillito's

Frank I. Lazarus, 67, former Shillito's department store executive, died Monday in Tucson.

A vice president and former manager of the now defunct Shillito's stores both downtown and in Western Woods, Mr. Lazarus joined the company for a summer job in 1954. The Lazarus family owned both Shillito's and Lazarus department stores.

After briefly working at Ohrbach's department store in New York while continuing his graduate studies at New York University School of Retailing, Mr. Lazarus returned to Shillito's as a salesman in men's furnishings in 1955. He later was

named vice president-manager of the downtown store.

He leaves his wife, Jessica Lombardi Slade Lazarus; daughters Amy Marchioni and Tracey Worthington, both of San Diego, and Trudi DiTullio of Boston; brothers, Jeffrey Lazarus Jr. and David Lazarus, both of Cincinnati; sisters, Ruth Cole, of Cincinnati, and Betty Antonoff, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Services were today at Plum Street Temple. Memorials: University of Arizona Heart Center or Cancer Center, 1501 North Campbell Ave., Tucson, Ariz., 85724.

Charlotte L. Casey, Cincinnati homemaker

Charlotte L. Casey, 67, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday. Mrs. Casey, formerly of Dry Ridge, Ky., was a homemaker and a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Cincinnati.

She leaves sons Brian Casey and Terry Casey, both of Cincinnati, and Gregory and Rick Casey, both of Amargosa Valley, Nev.; brothers, James Pipes of Erlanger, Ky., Robert Pipes of  Taylor Mill, Ky., Larry Pipes of Ft. Wright, Ky., and Gary Pipes of Covington; sisters, Lois Duddey an Sharon Heuser, both of Covington, Peggy Spurlock of Independence, Ky., and Pamela Schworer of Ft. Wright; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A son, Jeffery Lee Casey, and daughters, Deborah Lynn Casey and Cassandra Casey, all preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, Ky. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Rev. Cornelius C. Berning, retired pastor and teacher
The Rev. Cornelius C. Berning, a former teacher at Elder and Purcell high schools and pastor of St. Augustine parish in Cincinnati, died Tuesday. Father Berning was 93 years old.

"He was strong in his faith," said his brother, the Rev. John Berning of St. Petersburg, Fla. "He knew he wanted to be a priest since he was 7 years old."

Father Berning was ordained in 1931 and served as an assistant pastor at various Cincinnati parishes. He became an assistant at St. Augustine, then pastor there in 1950.

He was pastor at three other churches until his retirement in 1973.

Though he retired nearly 25 years ago, Father Berning still said mass several times a week, at St. Cecilia and St. Rose Church, until he was 90.

In his youth, Father Berning was a great athlete, winning several high-diving awards and playing baseball, and his athleticism continued until his later years. He gave up skiing only five years ago, his brother said.

Other survivors include a sister, Sister Mary Bernetta.

Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecilia Church, Oakley. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. today at the church. Witt, Good & Kelsch Funeral Home, Oakley, is handling arrangements.

Lawrence Lang, was printer for The Post

Lawrence A. Lang, a former printer for The Cincinnati Post for 47 years, died Thursday. He was 92.

The Hyde Park resident was an avid golfer who played up until about three to four years ago.

"He would play five days a week," said his daughter-in-law, Joanne.

When Mr. Lang was not playing golf, he loved to watch sports on television, added his son, Daniel.

Mr. Lang also enjoyed reading sports magazines and newspapers, playing the keyboard and the company of his 24 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His wife, Virginia Gallagher Lang, preceded him in death.

He also leaves daughters, Phillis Stevens, Margaret Ackerman and Alice Thomas; another son, Lawrence Lang; sisters, Jeannette Turner and Alice Massarella, and brother, Eugene Lang.

Mass: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia Church, Oakley. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Witt, Good and Kelsch Funeral Home, Oakley.
