Naomi Matre Robisch, of Mariemont Players
Naomi Matre Robisch, 90, retired elementary school teacher and a founding member of the Mariemont Players, died Thursday.
Mrs. Robisch, the widow of the late Mariemont Police Chief Chris Robisch, taught fourth-grade in Reading, but spent most of her career in the Mariemont schools, recalls her brother, Jack Matre. She retired in 1970 at age 62, said her son, the Rev. David Robisch, of St. Mary's Church, Hyde Park.
A founding member of the Mariemont Players 66 years ago, she was the theater troupe's only lifetime honorary member, said Norma Niinemets, a Mariemont Players board member and past president.
"We used to have an academy awards for the troupe," she said. "Naomi for years handled all of the judging particulars."
Father Robisch recalls her very active role in the theater group during his childhood.
"She acted in those plays. I can remember as a kid our furniture would be used as stage props," he said. "I used to kid her I thought she was the Helen Hayes of the Mariemont Players."
A native of Reading, Mrs. Robisch held a bachelor of science degree in education from Miami University. After retiring, she often visited the sick in hospitals or nursing homes to read to older people, said her brother. She was also a volunteer at St. Rita School for the Deaf.
Mrs. Robisch also leaves her brothers, Jim of Greater Cincinnati and Bill Matre of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Bess Murphy and Margaret Schaller of Greater Cincinnati and Dorothy Parker of Indianapolis.
