Rev. Thomas Finn, served Covington diocese
The Rev. Monsignor Thomas Bernard Finn, a retired vicar general for the Diocese of Covington, died Sunday. He was 88.
Monsignor Finn was a former vicar for religious affairs, domestic prelate and consultor with the diocese, and also served as director of Diocesan Catholic Charities, now known as Catholic Social Services. He also served as pastor at St. Thomas Church and Holy Cross Church in Northern Kentucky.
After retiring in 1981, Monsignor Finn served on the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Board and as chaplain of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Cincinnati. He leaves a niece, Mary Truong of Cincinnati.

Campbell jailer Earl Ping
Former Campbell County Jailer Earl Ping, 56, who oversaw construction of a new $3 million jail that is credited with saving money and improving conditions for inmates, died Monday.

Elma Jean Bowers, church, school leader
Elma Jean Bowers, 71, of Amberley Village, religious activist and long-time teacher at Taft High School, died Monday at Deaconess Hospital.
Dr. Bowers was the wife of Bishop Paul Alexander Bowers, the former presiding bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. The University of Cincinnati graduate taught for 27 years at Taft High School, 13 of them as English curriculum coordinator. She also taught at UC and Xavier University.
Dr. Bowers was a member of the advisory board of the Grace Apostolic University and dean of the Grace International Apostolic Bible College, where she earned her doctorate. She served as a wedding consultant at the Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple, where she was active for the past 43 years.
She and her husband celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 19.
She also leaves daughters, Paula Massey, Patricia Daniel and Pamela Bowers; a sister, Earlene Lyons; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Joseph Koch, of west side bakery family
Joseph F. Koch, a retired baker from the west side, died Monday. He was 82.
The Koch family owned and operated the Koch Bakery for more than 40 years in the West End. Joseph Koch's father started the bakery, which Joseph moved to Eighth Street and Overlook Avenue in Covedale in the mid-1950s. Later the bakery was sold and Joseph Koch worked as a baker for Pasquale, which later became V.I.P.
During his years as a baker, Koch was known for his generosity and for providing baked goods to the Little Sisters of the Poor. He remembered the nuns' birthdays with special birthday cakes. He retired in 1979.
He leaves his wife, Dorothy Hauser Koch; a daughter, Diane Oberjohann, of Mack; a son, Ronald Koch, of Middletown; a sister, Helen Becker, of Dania, Fla.; a brother, Chris Hines, of Bridgetown; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Retired Jergens CEO dies
Franklin G. Meeker, 92, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Cincinnati, died Wednesday. He was a retired president and chief executive officer of the Andrew Jergens Co., and was director emeritus of Star Bank.
Mr. Meeker was a certified public accountant with the Los Angeles office of Ernst & Ernst before joining Jergens in 1937. He retired from the company in 1971.
He was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Naples, the Royal Poinciana Golf Club, the Naples Yacht Club and the Moorings Country Club of Naples.
Locally, he was a member of the Armstrong Chapel United Methodist Church in Indian Hill and the Queen City Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Fekety of Portland, Ore.; a son, Franklin Meeker Jr. of Shelby, N.C.; and four grandchildren. Mr. Meeker's wife, Marie Ellis Meeker, died in January 1998.
Services will be private. Memorials: Alzheimer's Association of Southwest Florida, 660 Tamiami Trace North, Naples, Fla. 34102. Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Bonita Springs, Fla., is handling arrangements.
