Percie J. Hocker, award-winning teacher
Percie J. Hocker, 73, of Blue Ash, who devoted her life to teaching, died Friday.
Mrs. Hocker was an elementary school teacher for three years in Eastern Kentucky and taught 29 years in Milford.
After retiring from full-time teaching, she worked as a substitute teacher for Milford and Sycamore schools through last year.
Upon retiring from full-time teaching, Mrs. Hocker received the Award of Honor from Milford schools.
Mrs. Hocker was born in Sergeant, Ky., the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Miami University.
A lover of games, Mrs. Hocker was instrumental in organizing Game Night at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Kenwood and enjoyed participating in the Mount Carmel Baptist Joy Club.
Survivors include her husband, Cliff Hocker, son Wendell Hunsucker, stepchildren Judy Hocker, Jerry Hocker, Ruth Hocker Chevallier and Molly Hocker Douglas, and a sister, Ellene Back.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 8645 Kenwood Road. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Walter Baker, watchmaker and veteran
Months before the U.S. was drawn into World War II by the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Walter "Vern" Baker was on the Atlantic Ocean, a Navy utilities chief on the U.S.S. Augusta.
There was one particular day in August 1941 when the young sailor wanted to be sure the ship's water and electric systems were in perfect working order. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill were on board to sign the Atlantic Charter.
"He never got to meet to them, but he was real proud to be there," said Elizabeth "Libby" Baker, his wife.
Mr. Baker, of Newport, died Sunday.
After serving in the
Korean War, Mr. Baker returned to his craft as a watchmaker, a trade he learned at Gruen Watch Co. in Cincinnati. He retired from Mercury Instrument, Inc., in Cincinnati.
He leaves a son, Richard Baker; daughter, Joyce Whitney; brother, Arlen Baker; sister, Iris Newkirk; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Ida Vaughan, managed Veranda restaurant
Ida M. Vaughan, who formerly managed the now-closed Veranda Restaurant in Cincinnati, died Sunday at age 89.
Mrs. Vaughan once lived in Cincinnati and Rabbit Hash, Ky., then later moved to Louisville. Her husband, Lawrence, continues to live in Louisville and in Clearwater, Fla.

Harry Lamson, 99, longtime Vevay merchant
Harry Dupraz Lamson, 99, who was co-owner of Lamson's Clothing Store in Vevay, Ind., and a former Switzerland County Republican chairman, died Tuesday.
Mr. Lamson along with his father, owned and operated the clothing store for 53 years before it closed in 1969. The Army veteran of World War II was a charter member of the Vevay American Legion Post 185 and was a 77-year member of the Switzerland Masonic Lodge.
He and his wife, Lucille, would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on Aug. 16.
He also leaves a son, Robert Lamson of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
