Dorothy Chesnutt
Holdenville resident Dorothy (Fruit) Chesnutt, 95, passed away Monday, July 18, at her home after complications following a stroke.

She was born Jan. 12, 1911, in Shawnee to pioneers Ralph and Roxie Fruit.

Dorothy graduated salutatorian at Shawnee High School. She was state drama and cheerleading award winner in 1926. She was an Oklahoma City "Kiltie" girl and met President Calvin Coolidge when the group visited the White House in 1925 while performing in the East. She served as state president of Rainbow Girls in 1928.

After four years at Oklahoma Baptist University, Dorothy studied drama and elocution in Boston at the Powers School.

From 1930 until her marriage to Clyde Chesnutt, she operated The Dorothy Fruit Studio of Dance in Shawnee and was an active golfer with her lifelong friend, Rozanne (Custer) Turner at the local country club. Dorothy studied dancing in London and Europe. She took her first transatlantic voyage on the Queen Mary in 1934 departing from the Santa Fe Depot in Shawnee. She later traveled extensively, to all the world's continents except Antarctica.

In February 1942 she married Clyde Chesnutt at the family's home in Holdenville. She reopened her dancing school in Holdenville, which she operated for another 20 years.

While raising a family she was active in the local Methodist Church serving as president of the WSCS, and other church positions. Dorothy was a charter member and past president of the Holdenville Garden Club. She served as local chairperson for the March of Dimes, American Cancer Society and Heart Research at various times in the 50s and 60s.

After Holdenville Hospital opened in 1967, she was an active auxiliary supporter. In 1972, after her husband's death, Dorothy became "Mom Dot" the Alpha Gama Rho housemother at Oklahoma State University, where she enjoyed attending the drama productions and sporting events in Stillwater.

Mom Dot gave bridge and table etiquette lessons regularly to new agricultural majors in the farm-orientated fraternity. After 10 years, she retired and returned to Holdenville where she quickly renewed old friendships and made many new ones.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Loren Fruit in 1956, and Kenneth Fruit in 1999.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Clyde and Dotsy Chesnutt of San Diego, Calif., the Rev. Lon and Evelyn Chesnutt of Columbia, Md., Kenneth and Linda Chesnutt of Holdenville, Tom and Peggy Chesnutt of Irving, Texas; sisters-in-law, Ruth Chesnutt Butts of Gilbert, Ariz., close childhood cousin, Thelma Barnes of Tecumseh; nieces and spouses, Barbara Fruit and Hank Watson of Oklahoma City, Carol and Larry Adams of Wimberly, Texas, Sharon and Fred Simmons of San Marcos, Texas; nephew and spouse, Jerry and Vicki Fruit of Sequin, Texas.

At Dorothy's request her body was donated to medical science. At a later date her ashes will be placed upon her late husband's grave so that they can be joined together again after 35 years.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church in Holdenville. Following the service, which will include "Lord of the Dance," the family will receive friends at her home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church Renovation Fund.

Carina Dawn Johnson
Tecumseh resident Carina Dawn Johnson, 22, died Tuesday, July 19, at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service. Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service. Other information is pending and will be announced by Walker Funeral Service.

Nancy Spangler
Lifelong Yukon resident Nancy Spangler lost her short but courageous battle with a rare form of uterine cancer Tuesday, July 19.

She was born Sept. 3, 1941, in Shamrock to Geraldine (King) and Leo Likens.

Nancy married Harold Spangler in 1960. They were eternal newly weds for 45 years.

She graduated in 1968 with a license of practical nursing degree and worked at South Community Hospital for 20 years as an LPN.

She was a charter member of the bingo association. Preceding her in death are her parents, an infant brother and grandmother King.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Spangler of the home; four children, Sheri Cowan and Phil Pratt of Mustang, Kelly and Linda Spangler of Oklahoma City, Paula and Bill Staudt of Okmulgee, Scott and Sheila Spangler of Yukon; nine grandchildren, Nickolas Cowan, Brittney and Jake Richardson, Adam Spangler, Nancy Kay, Robyn and William Staudt, Christopher, Cody and Collin Spangler; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Austin Cowan; four siblings, Judy and Bill Anderson, Sue and Leroy Batt, Jerry and Francis Leyerly, Danny and Jill Likens, as well as many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church, Yukon. Burial will follow at Yukon Cemetery under the direction of Yanda & Son Funeral Home, Yukon.

Bernice Marie Ewing
Longtime Shawnee resident Bernice Marie Ewing, 78, died Sunday, July 17, at an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born Aug. 30, 1926, in Konawa to Louis and Annie Morrison-Steelman.

Bernice married Leonard Ewing on June 22, 1946, in Arkansas.

She was a member of Cornerstone Assembly Church in Shawnee and enjoyed the Shawnee Senior Citizens Center.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Leonard Lee Ewing; sisters, Irene and Dorothy; brother, James Steelman.

Survivors include her three sons, Ernest James Ewing, Danny Ray Ewing and Carl Joseph Ewing; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Thomas Cook of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Ida Morgan of Shawnee; grandchildren, Michael, Jeffery, April, Jennifer, Julie, Shellie, Misty and Moquella; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Dacee, Roland and Tabor.

Service will be noon Friday at Gaskill Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Chapel.

Carl Rounsivill
Seminole resident Carl Rounsivill, 79, died Monday, July 18, at Pioneer Nursing Home.

He was born May 23, 1926, in Oilton to Noah D. and Eva (Wheeler) Rounsivill.

Rounsivill served four years in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st class.

He's been a resident of Seminole since 1991. He moved here from Fresno, Calif., after living there for 43 years.

On Oct. 12, 1991, he married Dolphie M. Rounsivill in Seminole. She preceded him in death Jan. 7, 2004.

Rounsivill was a salesman for U.S. Steel for 10 years. He also worked in the trucking business for Pacific Motor Trucking in California.

He was a member of Hillstop Assembly of God in Earlsboro.

Also preceding him in death are his parents.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Robert Wright of Fresno; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.

Mayme Cowden
Tecumseh resident Mayme Cowden, 83, died Tuesday, July 19, in Tecumseh.

She was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Tribbey to Sam and Hattie (Thomasson) Judy.

Cowden attended school in Tribbey, Trousdale and Wanette. She graduated from Tecumseh in 1940.

On Aug. 15, 1941, she married Wayne Cowden in Chandler.

Cowden lived in Shawnee before moving to Tecumseh in 1949.

She worked as a layout operator over test area for AT&T. She retired Feb. 2, 1985.

Cowden was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church. Her great-grandchildren were the focal point of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Kathleen Trousdale, Mary Louise Judy and Eula Dubler, and two brothers, Bruce and Frank Judy.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ernie Yates of Tecumseh; grandchildren and spouses, Pam and Neal Motley of Tecumseh; Vicki Eagleston of Tecumseh; five great-grandchildren, Andrea Rector and husband, Ben, Amanda Motley, Tyler Motley, Courtney Eagleston and Cory Eagleston; one great-great-grandchild, Tate Rector.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with Leslie Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Antonio James Stanzione
Shawnee resident Antonio "Tony" Stanzione, 16, died Saturday, July 16, at an Oklahoma City hospital.

He was born Nov. 26, 1988, in Pauls Valley to Roy and Kelly (Paine) Stanzione.

He attended school in Shawnee and was a member of Wallace Avenue Baptist Church.

Tony loved football and baseball. He had the opportunity to attend the 33rd Super Bowl in Florida with the help of the Make A Wish Foundation. He shared the experience in heart with a donation of his own to the foundation.

Tony identified with his Christian beliefs. He showed love and compassion to those who were challenged with obstacles lesser and greater than his own. His love for his family seeped his heart continuously as he ministered through his actions of love. He attempted to uphold his values he held in Christ - love one another and love your God.

Tony is truly a child of God whose acceptance into heaven will be proceeded by the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant".

He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Carol Diane Barnes; great-grandfather, James Elliot; great-grandmother, Lillian C. Blair and great-grandfather, Lovie Blair.

Survivors include his mother, Kelly Stanzione-Paine of Shawnee; father, Roy Stanzione Jr. and wife, Cheri, of Shawnee; brothers and sisters, Johnny Coronado, Donnell Teal, Daniel Coronado, Nicholas Coronado, Christina Stanzione and Michael Coronado; grandparents, Robert and LuAnn Paine of Pryor and Roy Stanzione Sr. of San Diego, Calif.; aunts, Carol Pyle and Michael of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Cindy Pridgeon and Mike of San Diego, Calif., Cheryl Dresdner of San Diego, Calif., Robin Nordmeyer and Doug of Apple Valley, Minn.; uncles, David Paine and Lauri of Claremore and Bob Paine and Denise of Chelsea.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wallace Avenue Baptist Church in Shawnee under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Antonio's name to Bancfirst.

Clara Jean Walls
Earlsboro resident Clara Jean Walls, 70, died Monday, July 18, at her home.

She was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Earlsboro to Charles and Mabel (Baker) Yoakum.

Walls graduated from Earlsboro High School.

She married Jimmy Carter and later married Dale Walls on Aug. 17, 1976, in Gainesville, Texas.

Walls was a homemaker and worked at TDK retiring in 1988.

She was a member of Earlsboro Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and cooking.

Her father and great-granddaughter, Angel Carter, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Dale Walls, of the home; six children and spouses, Connie and Dennis Rawls of Earlsboro, Jimmy Don and Trellis Carter of Earlsboro, Melvin and Pat Carter of Konawa, Kathy and Todd Whatley of Earlsboro, Steven D. and Janette Walls of Harrah, Janet and Chip Hargrave of Moore; mother, Mabel Yoakum; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Charslie Byrd of Broken Arrow; brother and sister-in-law, C.R. and Pat Yoakum of Tecumseh; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Graveside service will be 2 today at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
