Bynum

Donald Ray Bynum, 70, of Hollis, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at his home. Services, under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of the Nazarene in Hollis with the Rev. Jim Fishback and James Callins officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

Bynum was born Feb. 21, 1934, to Hendrix and Zella Bynum in Collingsworth County, Texas. He married Lillie Mae Stansbury on July 23, 1955, at his parents' home and was in the Navy from 1955 to 1957. He lived in Harmon County for 67 years.

He was a supervisor for the Oklahoma State Highway Department. The department presented him a Safety Award, and for the past several years he worked for the Boll Weevil Program. He retired in 1997.

He attended the Church of the Nazarene, enjoyed playing dominoes and visiting with his friends, spending time with his family --especially his grandchildren -- and coon hunting in his younger years.

Bynum was preceded in death by his fat her in 1959 and his mother in 1995.

He is survived by his wife Lillie Bynum of Hollis; two daughters, Carolyn Floyd and husband Steve of McLoud, and Dona Opitz and husband Quintin of Fort Cobb; one son Doug Bynum and wife Tammy of Hollis; sister Ruth Bynum of Oklahoma City (formerly of Hollis); and eight grandchildren, Mandi Howell, Adam Scott, Dustin Floyd, Michael Scott, Levi Opitz, Wesley Brogdin, Sheridan Bynum and Talon Floyd.

Smith

Roy Smith, 48, of Hobart died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Elkview Hospital in Hobart. A service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church in Granite, and burial will be in the Granite City Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Newton will officiate. Arrangements are with Greer Funeral Home in Granite.

Smith was born Nov. 21, 1955, in Mangum to Roy and Edna Marie (Martin) Smith, and he lived his lifetime in the Greer County area. In 1980 he married Kathy Brooks, and their union left them with two beautiful daughters.

He worked as a corrections officer for the state Department of Corrections in Granite for 14 years, as a butcher in the food industry for several years, and he owned a trucking business for seven years.

He retired with a medical condition in 2001 after many years of enjoying his occupations.

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Granite and enjoyed fishing and spending time reminiscing about his childhood.

He will be missed by his family and friends as a kind and generous father and friend.

Smith was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by two daughters, Amy Moore and husband William of Granite, and Erica Smith of Granite; grandchildren Layne and Jalynn Moore of Granite; and two sisters, Emily Smith and Beverly Smith of Granite.

Kirby

Olen Keith Kirby, 71, of Altus, died Sunday, August 15, 2004, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Rev. Sherman Mullis officiating. Burial will follow services at 3:30 p.m. at the Checotah Cemetery in Checotah, under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

He was born March 23, 1933, in Eufaula to Andrew J. and Flossie L. (Sewell) Kirby. He was raised and attended school in eastern Oklahoma. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1951 and had been stationed in Germany. He enjoyed a 28 year career with the Katy Railroad and retired in 1989. In his retirement years he enjoyed cattle ranching in Checotah. He was a member of the Altus Church of God. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Flossie Kirby; his stepfather, Finus Sewell; two sisters, Mamie Burdine and Clara Mae Harr; and three brothers, Shelton Kirby and Les and Lee Sewell.

He is survived by his wife Betty, of the home; three step-daughters, Brenda Howeth and husband Mike of Altus, Melba Bales and husband Jim of Altus, Kathy Brown and husband Charlie of Lawton; six step-grandchildren, Mark Howeth and wife Stephanie of Lavon, Texas, Lisa Davis and husband Mike of Altus, Jimmy Bales and wife Alicia of Duke, Lori Zelez and husband Joey of Las Vegas, Kim Davis and husband Brian of Lawton, Michael Brown of Lawton; one brother, D.E. Kirby and wife Lillie Mae of Checotah; three sisters, Faye Dornan of Checotah, Eloise Morrison and husband J.W. of Portland, Ore., Ima Jean Fletcher and husband Grady of Springfield, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Ruth Kirby, both of Elk City, Rosie Faye Smith of Mangum; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Kirby family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home.

Schrick

Funeral service for Dorothy Naomi Schrick, 84, of Lawton will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at the Gray Gish Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. N. J. BalaSwamy, pastor of St. Helen's Catholic Church, Frederick, officiating. Burial will be at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home. She died on August 13, 2004, in Lawton.

Dorothy Schrick was born on Oct. 20, 1919, in Paris, Texas, to Robert Andy and Maud Josephine (Young) Norrell. In 1927, they moved to Tillman County. She attended schools at Deep Red, Halton and Manitou. On June 28, 1939, Dorothy was united in marriage to Emil Lawrence Schrick in Lawton. After their marriage, they lived in Grandfield, Walters, Frederick and Lawton. She was a member of the St. Helen's Catholic Church, of Frederick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers:, Arlie Norrell and Roy Norrell; a sister, Norma Jean Brumley; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, E. L., of the home in Lawton; a son, Larry Schrick and his wife Mary, of Chattanooga; two daughters, Barbara Gayle Couch, and her husband Tim of Clever, Mo., and Sandra Kay "Sandy" Ching, and her husband Jimmy of Lawton; two brothers, Charles Norrell, and his wife Jeannie of Verdon and Marvin Norrell, and his wife Dora Ann of Faxon; and two sisters, Bernice Cozart, and her husband Ernest of Frederick and Peggy Waltman, and her husband Frank, of Elgin; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association, 6465 South Yale, Suite 432, Tulsa, OK 74136, in loving memory of Dorothy N. Schrick.

Davenport

Robert "Bob" Davenport, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at the Chapel of Trinity Fellowship Church, with Phil Mercado of Grace Fellowship church in Los Lunas, N.M. officiating.

Bob married Billie Jo Thomas on May 19, 1951 in Vernon, Texas. He worked in civil service. He was a manager in the automotive industry for many years. He was owner and operator of Davenport Used Cars and Inspection Station from 1975 to 1981 and the Health Haven. He was a charter member of Wesley Methodist Church. He was president of the Vaughn Selby Class for one year at Polk Street Methodist Church. He was very active at the Bethesda Outreach Center and a member of Trinity Fellowship Church.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Nola Davenport; four brothers and two sisters, and one son, Robert Eugene Davenport.

Bob is survived by his wife, Billie Jo of Amarillo, Texas; three sons, James Mark Davenport and his wife Denise of Amarillo, Texas, Joel Thomas Davenport and wife Cindy of Kemp, Texas and Dan Davenport and wife Sherry of Groveland, Calif.; one daughter, Carol Konrath of Florida; one sister, Lozella Brackeen of Seymour, Texas; one brother, Vernon Davenport and wife Clemmie of Shamrock, Texas and 20 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The family would like for memorials to be made to Trinity Fellowship Building Fund.

Mitchell

Ruby Lee Mitchell, 81 former Duncan resident, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at English Village Manor in Altus.

She was born March 23, 1923, in Dallas, Texas, to Andrew and Florence (Lockaby) Campbell.

On Dec. 26, 1941 Ruby and John Henry Mitchell Sr. were united in marriage. He preceded her in death May 7, 1969.

Ruby moved to California in 1969 to be close to her family, later moving to Kingman, Ariz., where she lived with her daughter Nelda and son John and great-grandson Grant.

In January 2003 Ruby moved to Altus to be near her daughter Laura and family.

Ruby always enjoyed workin. She worked at Weeden Hospital and Main Laundry in Duncan and for many years at Hagar Slacks Factory in Temple. She also worked as a home care provider before she retired.

She had many hobbies. She enjoyed especially sewing, playing her guitar and her 12 string guitar and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by one son, John Henry Mitchell Jr. of Headrick; three daughters, Sandra Kaye Westfall and husband I.D. of Oklahoma City, Nelda Jo Goodhue and Laura Lee Fort and husband Danny, both of Headrick. She is also survived by one sister, Flora Thornberry of Pasa Robles, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and four sisters.

Graveside service for Ruby Lee Mitchell is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at the Duncan Cemetery. Chris Beck will be officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan, Oklahoma.

Mitchell Family will meet at the Holiday Inn, 1015 N. Hwy 81 Duncan.

Local arrangements are provided by Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Bilbrey

Robert Esque "Eck" Bilbrey, 93, of Altus, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2004 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Bill Osborne and Doug Altom officiating. Burial will follow services at the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

He was born April 21, 1911 in Algood, Tenn. to David A. and Bessie (Copeland) Bilbrey. He moved from Tennessee at the age of 12 to Victory. Bilbrey graduated high school in Victory where he participated in all athletics, excelling in basketball and track. He married Mary Osborne November 18, 1933 in Hollis. They farmed in Olustee until 1936 when they moved to California and lived there for 11 years. Bilbrey worked on the All American Canal in Southern California before moving to San Diego to build ships during the war. They then returned to Oklahoma, living in Olustee until 1957. They then moved to Altus where they made their home until his death.

Bilbrey was a carpenter, retiring from career he loved due to failing eyesight, but remained active with many hobbies including playing cards, dominoes, fishing and watching television. Bilbrey was inducted into the Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame in track in 1978, received his 50 years carpenter pin in September 2000 and was a member of L.A.M.P. (Local Association of Mature People). He was a member of First Baptist Church of Altus where he was an active member of Discovery One Sunday school class.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.

He is survived by his lifelong partner and dedicated wife Mary of the home; one daughter, Sandra Parker of Columbus, Ohio; one son and a daughter-in-law, Dale and Kay Bilbrey of Olustee; one sister, Beulah Stockton of Victory; four grandchildren, Patti Hook, Philip Parker, Jamie Shepard and Chris Parker; nine great grandchildren, Byron Hook, Spencer and Alex Claire Parker, R.B. and Parker Shepard, Zachary, Emma and Sara Jane Parker, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church of Altus Prayer Ministry Room or the Olustee Cemetery Association in care of Don or Faye Moody of Olustee.

The Bilbrey family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 until 4:30 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home.
