KENNETH W. TURNER

TYRONE, Okla. -- Kenneth W. Turner, 65, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Oct. 20, 1934 to Harold and Alma (Randolph) Turner in Rogers, Ark.

He married LaDean Dotson in 1956. He married Ruth Reist in June of 1983, in Tyrone. She survives.

He moved with his family to many locations as a young boy and as a young man he joined the U.S. Marines, serving during the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge in 1956.

He moved from California to Adams , Okla. where he farmed with his father and brother Bill. Later he moved to Tyrone, Okla., where he worked as a mechanic working on cars and trucks, both gas and diesel. He was a driver for Yellow Freight for a while, but always worked as a mechanic.

He worked for Kansas-Nebraska for 10 years, and worked for Phillips for five years. He retired six years ago due to his failing health.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Odd Fellows Lodge, but his most enjoyable activity was fishing. He fished in many Bass Tournaments and in 1992, he became a member of the Professional Military Bass Anglers Association. He earned the right to fish in the National Tournament. At the time, he was ranked 6th in Oklahoma and 200th Nationally. He was happiest when he was fishing with his family.

Other survivors include his parents; one son, Kenneth Turner Jr. and wife, Tina, Tyrone; three daughters, Evelyn Keever and husband, David, Bartlesville, Okla., Loretta Caldwell, Springfield, Mo., and Janett Bright and husband, Howard, Tyrone; one brother, Bill Turner, Washington State; one step-son, John Reist and wife, Micky, Deerfield; two step-daughters, Karen Shoemaker and husband, Danny, Joplin, Mo., and Sharon Howard and husband, Jon, Deerfield; six grandchildren, Tonja Grace, Misty Keever, Carrie Boley, Jammie Mead, Kristi O'Kane and Wendy Noll; and nine great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Macayla, Brenton, Michael, Jakob O'Brian, Robert, Ashley and Star; ten step-grandchildren, Curt Shoemaker, Joshua Howard, Mathew Howard, Adam Howard, Pacier Reist, Buck Reist, Connie Shoemaker, Amber Gerstberger, Skyler Howard, and Katina Strickland; five step-great-grandchildren, Sierra, Lindsey, Bret, Tequila and Kyrie.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother Larry.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Hooker, Okla. with the Rev. Neville Buchanan presiding. Interment will follow at the Tyrone Cemetery in Tyrone, with Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT W. THOMAS

HOOKER, Okla. -- Robert W. Thomas, 90, Grove, Okla., formerly of Hooker, Okla., died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Grove General Hospital in Grove.

He was born May 2, 1909, to Charles W. and Grace (Childs) Thomas in New Creek, W. Va.

He married Helen Williams April 23, 1932, in West Virginia. She died in 1982. He married Oteka Rodman Aug. 24, 1984, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.

As a young boy, he worked on his father's dairy farm, and he drove a milk delivery route, taking milk from door to door.

He worked for the Seliness Factory for 18 years. He and his wife, Helen, moved to the Wichita area where he worked as an electrician. In 1974 they moved to Hooker and he retired.

He and his wife, Oteka, lived in Hooker until 1997, when they moved to Grove to be near family.

Other survivors include one son, Robert W. Thomas Jr., Bernice, Okla.; two daughters, Ann B. Krug, Grove, and Jean K. Hensley-Ogden, Wichita; two step-sons, Donny Rodman, New Orleans, La., and Terry Rodman, Clarksville, Tenn.; one brother, Fredrick Thomas, New Creek; six grandchildren, Debra Butler, Gregory Krug, Griffin Thomas, Alana Jordon, Elizabeth Tanner and Monte Hensley; step-grandchildren including Marv, Tim and Mike Ogden; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Tony Thomas.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Hooker, with the Rev. Kim Alan Domnick presiding.

Burial will follow at the Hooker Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church Children's Praise Choir for robes, in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

MICHAEL DWAYNE SARGENT

BEAVER, Okla. -- Michael Dwayne Sargent, 19, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in a motor vehicle accident.

He was born Nov. 12, 1980, to Darrel and Kathy (Sargent) Glenn, in Borger, Texas.

He graduated from Beaver High School and was a farmhand working in the area.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Beaver.

He is survived by his parents, Darrel and Kathy Glenn, Beaver, one sister, Ashley Glenn, and one brother, Jonathan Glenn of the home, great-grandmother, Laura Longcor, Beaver, Okla.; grandparents, Sandy Durham, Amarillo, and Tony Sargent, Pampa, Texas, Donald Glenn, Beaver and Barbara Glenn, Dodge City, and several relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Beaver First Baptist Church with Don Rogers and Wayne Edwards presiding.

Burial will be at the Capital View Cemetery, Elmwood, Okla., under the direction of Clark Funeral Service, Beaver,

LEWIS FUNDERBURG

GUYMON, Okla. -- Lewis Rayburn Funderburg, 80, longtime Guymon resident, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Dec. 3, 1919, to John Henry and Rhoda (O'Donnell) Funderburg in Wilburton, Okla.

He graduated from Wilburton High School in 1941, then enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country from 1942-1945. He fought in the European Theater and went into Normandy at Utah Beach on D-Day plus three.

After the war, he returned home and began his career with Mobil Oil Corporation.

He married Wanda Basden May 6, 1946, in Sherman, Texas. She survives.

He was transferred from Duncan, Okla., to Guymon in 1963.

He retired from Mobil in 1984 after more than 39 years as a gang pusher.

He professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in 1947. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Other survivors include one daughter, Vicki Bunger and husband, Herman, Liberal; one son, Ron Funderburg and wife, Jeanette, Guymon; two sisters, Eula Self, Lawrence, Norma Jean Major and husband, Kenneth, McAlester, Okla.; six brothers, O.C. Funderburg and wife, Anna, Charleston, S.C., James Funderburg and wife, Marcia, Midwest City, Okla., Bennie Funderburg and wife, Ethel Lee, Enid, Okla., Jack Funderburg and wife, Betty, Hennessey, Okla., Charles Funderburg, Ada, Okla., and Stanley Funderburg and wife, Joyce, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Melissa Holland and husband, Zack, Tulsa,Okla., Stephanie Bunger, Liberal, Gregory Funderburg, Guymon, and Michelle Funderburg, Thornton, Colo; a great-granddaughter, Meghan Ashley Holland; and a brother-in-law, Carl Basden and wife, Nadine, Wilburton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Floyd Victory Funderburg; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Funderburg; and a brother-in-law, Roy Self.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Odie Nunley and Leon Lothman officiating.

Burial will be at Elmhurst Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, and Tuesday morning, prior to services.

A Lewis Funderburg Memorial has been established for the Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo, Texas. Memorials will be accepted at Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.

LEWIS CARL MORGAN

GUYMON, Okla. -- Lewis Carl Morgan, 80, longtime Guymon resident, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Amarillo, Texas.

He was born Oct. 25, 1919, to Newton Henry and Stella (Harrod) Morgan near Hooker, Okla.

He attended Dade Country School, Round Top, and graduated from Elkhart High School in June 1941. While in high school, he played football and was the drum major of the band.

In August 1941, he joined the Army Air Corps. He was a B-17 radioman and tail gunner. His plane was shot down over Germany and he was a prisoner of war for one year. He was liberated in May 1945, at which time he returned to Elkhart. He was awarded the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.

He married Phyllis Carter Sept. 2, 1945, in Ulysses. She survives.

He was a meat cutter for Ideal Food Stores and the Big B in Guymon. He also held the position of state meat inspector and worked in the meat lab of Panhandle State University.

He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, the "Mighty Eight" 8th Air Force and the P.O.W. organization.

He was an avid golfer and had accomplished two holes-in-one.

He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Guymon.

Other survivors include one daughter, Carla Morgan, Liberal; one son, Max Morgan and wife, Sharon, Johnstown, Colo.; one son-in-law, Randy Parker, Elkhart; grandchildren, Bryan Morgan and wife, Kari, Noble, Okla.; Chad Parker and wife, Jenny, Elkhart, Bryce Morgan and wife, Tammy, Denver, Chase Parker and wife, Julie, Elkhart, Darci and Danielle Morgan, Johnstown, Colo., and Deborah Morgan, Guymon; and eight great-grandchildren, Kyle, Alex, Austin, Deke, Rylee, Rhett, Leroy and Brittany.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cathy Jo (Morgan) Parker; three brothers; two sisters; and mother-in-law, Violet (Carter) White.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Guymon, with the Rev. Don Chase presiding.

Private interment will be Monday afternoon at Elkhart Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to Ronald McDonald House, in care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, Okla. 73942.
