James Milton Turner, Jr.
James Milton Turner, Jr., 82, of Talihina, Okla., was born Sept. 20, 1915 at Moore, Okla. to James M. and Addie (Rainey) Turner, Sr. He passed away Feb. 16, 1998 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Oklahoma City. He was a retired Butcher.
He had been a resident of Talihina for the past 20 years. he was of the Protestant faith. He was an honorably discharged World War II veteran.
He preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Georgia Turner, in 1991 and two brothers, Rusty and Jack Turner.
He is survived by his three sons, Jim Turner of Irving, TX, Jerry Turner of Moore, Okla., Stanley Turner of Oklahoma City; one sister, Ruby Troy of Norman; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many friends and loved ones.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998 at the Drake-Jones Chapel with the Rev. Carrol Redwine. Interment at the New Talihina City Cemetery, Talihina.

Eleanor Lucille Carter White
Eleanor Lucille Carter White, 83, of Poteau, Okla., was born Feb. 3, 1922 in Oklahoma City, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998 at the Oaks Health Care Center, Poteau. She was a retired Teacher.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 1998 at the First United Methodist Church of Poteau with the Rev. Marcus Barnett officiating. Interment at the Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.
She is survived by her two aunts, Kate Truitt of Carnegie, Okla., and Bess Symon of Mobile, Ala.; three sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
Eleanor married Walter F. White, a Pharmacist, on Aug. 5, 1935 in Apache, Okla., who preceded her in death on July 5, 1987.
Mrs. White was a teacher for more than 40 years teaching one year at Box Elder, eight years at Apache, 10 years at Alex, one year at Bokoshe, and 20 years in the Poteau School System. Holding Many local, county, and state offices in the Oklahoma Education Association, Mrs. White was Teacher of the Year in 1976 for both Poteau and LeFlore County and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Poteau, First United Methodist Women, Administrative Board of the First United Methodist Church, member of the Poteau Arts and Humanities, Friday Bridge Club, lifelong member of the Poteau Historical Society and the Apache Historical Society, member at large of E.S.A., Women's Auxiliary of J.A.C.S., Sports Women's Booster Club, a member of the White Shrine and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Arrangements under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Willie Harold Wiles
Willie Harold Wiles, 75, of Shady Point, Okla. was born Dec. 19, 1922 in Panama, Okla. He passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998 at the Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center, Poteau. He was a retired Mechanic.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998 at the First Assembly of God Church, Shady Point with the Rev. Mike Bunch officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Panama.
He is survived by his wife, Margie of the home; three daughters, Joyce Farrar of Cameron, Sherril Faulkenberry of Shady Point, and Sharon Dillon of Poteau; two brothers, Paul Wiles of Ardmore and Carl Gene Wiles of Shady Point; eight grandchildren, Benny and Jackie Farrar, Kendall, Lori, and Lyndi Dillon, Brandon and Sara Faulkenberry, and Tera Davis; four great-grandchildren, Jamie, Joshua, and Haley Farrar, and Justin Farrar; and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
Willie was a World War II veteran, worked at Turman-Pierce Buick in Poteau for approximately 35 years and attended the First Assembly of God Church in Shady Point.
Arrangements under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

David Gene Williams
David Gene Williams, 34, of Hodgen, Okla., died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998 in a Heavener nursing home. He was lifelong resident of the area, member of the First Baptist Church, Hodgen.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 1998 at the First Baptist Church in Hodgen with burial at Memorial Park, Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Kimberly LeFlore and husband, Carroll of Tulsa, Stalea Williams of the home; his mother, Billie Williams of Sharon Spring, KS; two sisters, Kathey Van Allen of Sharon Spring, Patricia Truijillo of Glenwood Spring, CO; four brothers, Velbert of Heavener, James of Monroe, Kent of Denver, CO, Ike of Glenwood Spring.

Ola Windham
Ola Windham, 89, of Heavener, Okla., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998 in a Poteau hospital. She was a longtime resident of Heavener and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 1998 at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Memorial Park in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Stephens of Heavener; two sons, Ervin "Esau" Windham and John Windham both of Heavener; one sister, Thelma Hubbard of Heavener; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by one daughter Retha Davis.

Bob Yerton Sr.
Bob Yerton Sr., 68, of Panama, Okla., died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998. He was the founder of Fort Smith Plastic Mold, Inc., retired before the company was sold to Syneed Plastic now Atlantis in 1990. He worked for Burns Security at Whirlpool after retirement. He was a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church in Panama.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Shatwell, his parents, Walter Sr. and Bertha, brother, Jake Yerton, sister, Pauline Swink, and two grandchildren, Marcus and Matthew Goines.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 1998 at the Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith, AR with burial at Barling Cemetery, Barling, AR under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Yerton; daughter, Bernetta Boatman of Barling; two sons, Bobby Yerton Jr. and Mike Yerton, both of Fort Smith; step-children, Tawnya and Phillip Lowe of Bixley, Barbara Williams of Panama, Geri and Gary Goines, of Panama, and San Antonio, TX; brother, Walter Yerton Jr. of Fort Smith; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.

Alice Alcorn
Alice Alcorn, 81, of Cameron, Okla. was born June 23, 1916 in Anniston, Ala., she died Sunday, January 4, 1998 in Arkoma, Okla. She was a domestic worker.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, January 5, 1998 at the Knothole Cemetery in Cameron with the Rev. Jim Cook officiating.
She is survived by her son, Harold S. Waites of Cameron; daughter, Juanita Adams of Irondale, Ala.; sister, Lucille Harris of Anniston, Ala.; brother, Billy Jones of Anniston, Ala; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Arrangements under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Ethel Kelly
Ethel Kelly, 90, of Spiro, Okla., died Monday, January 4, 1998 in a Spiro nursing home. She was a member of Birch Chapel Assembly of God, Stony Point.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., January 7, 1998 at the Birch Chapel Assembly of God in Stony Point with burial at Spiro City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth Kelly of Spiro; four sisters, Viola Cox and Myrtle Davis both of Spiro, Mecia Bartlett and Theresa Hiendselman both of Antioch, Calif.; one brother, Robert Shockley of Spiro; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers: James Shockley, Bennie Shockley, Earl Williams, Bill Ewing, Roger Duncan, and Craig Duncan.
Honorary Pallbearers: Roy Dix, Carl Hale, Bobby Shockley, Michael Shockley, Jackie Duncan, and Robert Nelson.

Jewell Self
Jewell Self, 77, of Arkoma, Okla., died Monday, January 5, 1998 in a Fort Smith hospital. She was member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Arkoma.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 1998 at the Mallory Chapel of Spiro with burial at Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
She is survived by her two daughters, Debra Self of Arkoma and Annette Price of Keota, Okla., two sons, Bill Self of Stigler, Okla., and Kenneth Self of Poteau; two sisters, Tina Harris of Choctaw, Okla. and Edna Wilcox of Harrah, Okla; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers: Bill Self, Justin Self, Kenneth "Rowdy" Self, Troy Allen Price, Darrell Miller, Paul Parsons, Leonard Geer, Donnie Bickford.
Viewing will be Tuesday, January 7, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday 8:30 until service time.

Doyle Sewell
Doyle Sewell, 94, of Stigler was born to William Chead and Missouri Josephine (Powell) Sewell, January 14, 1903 at Cartersville, Oklahoma Indian Territory. He died Friday, January 2, 1998 in Stigler. Doyle grew up in Haskell County and married the former Ruby Jane Brown on March 13, 1942. She preceded him in death October 12, 1991. He attended Northeastern University for his formal schooling. He then taught school at Kanima for a while and was a rural mail carrier in Keota. He served his country during World War II in the US Navy. Doyle was a longtime community leader having owned and operated several businesses through the years in Haskell County including a Cotton Gin at Kanima, Sewell Oil Company, a distributor for Conoco Oil Company and in 1946 he formed the Doyle Sewell Motor Company, a Ford dealership in Stigler. He retired when he sold the dealership to Duke Dunn. He was a member of the Stigler United Methodist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Consistory and Bedouin Shrine.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, January 5, 1998 at Mallory Chapel in Stigler with Rev. Leo Guthrie officiating. Burial will follow in Keota Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home, Stigler.
Pallbearers were: Dr. Thomas Conklin Jr., Doug Martin, Carl Rose, James Roye, Gary Dunn, Chuck Forrester, Duke Dunn, Loyd Munn, and Louie Arnold.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Anita Sewell of Stigler; three grandchildren, Bill Sewell, Kevin Sewell, and Tonya Curtis; five great-grandchildren, Amber Barton, Rachel Hogan, Alexis Sewell, Rebecca Sewell, and Madison Sewell.

Lonny Allen
Lonny Allen, age 97 of Talihina, Okla. passed away Jan. 22, 1998 at his home. He was born Nov. 20, 1900 at Rocky, Ark. to James Monroe and Anna Taylor Allen. He had been a lifelong resident of the Talihina area.
Among his many occupations were: building contracting, rancher, cotton gin operator, civil engineer at Ft. Chaffee, Ark. as an employee of the Civilian conservation Corp.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Talihina where he had served as deacon, treasurer, and Sunday school teacher.
He was a former mayor of Talihina, a volunteer firefighter, and had served on the school board for many years.
He was also a member of the Lions Club and Modern Woodman of America.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gena in 1997; his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
He is survived by his son, J. M. Allen of Talihina; two daughters, Lorece Marriott of Norman, and Susan Drake of Edmond; five grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, E.M. Allen; two sisters, Eva Brunson and Beaulah Henager, both of Oregon; numerous nephews and nieces.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 1998 at the First Baptist Church, Talihina with the Rev. Sam Pace and Rev. Carrol Redwine officiating, following interment at the New Talihina City Cemetery.

Minnie A. Bourne
Mrs. Minnie A. Bourne, 78, of Pocola, Okla., died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998 in Pocola. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
A private family service has been arranged under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by her husband, David of the home; three daughters, Vicki Salsman of Ft. Smith, AR, Diana Fincher and Pat Jenkins, both of Pocola; one sister, Lydia Harrell of Stigler; two brothers, Raymond Davis and Lewis Davis both of Henryetta, Okla.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Thirl Evon Elder
Thirl Evon Elder, 60, of Howe, OK., died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998 in a Ft. Smith hospital, she was a longtime resident of the area.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 1998 at the Mt. View Baptist Church, Howe with burial at Mt. View Cemetery under the direction of the Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by her husband Gene, three daughters, Retha Luce of Heavener, Janet DeLaughter of Moore, Nancy Gaithe of Tulsa; four sons, Larry of Tulsa, Paul, Jimmy and Dave all of Howe; mother, Beatrice Lee of Star, OK; two sisters, Carol Beach of Cowlington, OK, Etha Mae Thomas of Follet, TX; two brothers, Homer and Jerry Lee both of Star, OK; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
