Larry Riggs
VIAN — Larry Edward Riggs, 56, of Vian died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, in Tulsa. He was born Dec. 21, 1947, in Dove, Pa. He was a grocery store manager and a Lutheran.
The body was cremated under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; five stepdaughters, Karen Dotson and Kristi Woods, both of Fort Smith, Kathy Wachtendorf of Waller, Texas, Karla Lowrimore of Sallisaw and Kimberly Howard of Poteau; a sister, Joan Riggs of Las Vegas; a brother, David Riggs of Washington; and 14 grandchildren.

Betty Eloise Cathey Atkinson
Betty Eloise Cathey Atkinson, 91, of Muskogee, Okla., was born July 11, 1912, in Graphic, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Ester Valeria Smith Rhodes. She died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Betty married Buford E. Cathey in 1940 and they were blessed with three children. He died in 1951. She later married Oliver Atkinson who preceded her in death in 1992. She worked for Swift and Company for more than 28 years retiring in 1977.
Mrs. Atkinson enjoyed reading the Bible and working in her garden. She loved First Baptist Church where she was a faithful long time member. Every Saturday she would call each member of her Sunday school class to check on them and let them know she cared. She devoted her life to being a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Everyone needs were placed in front of hers, always helping others, including strangers she would meet on the street. Betty touched many lives through her love and generosity and will be truly missed.
She is survived by three children, James Eugene Cathey and his wife, Jocelyn of Muskogee, Okla., John Paul Cathey and his wife, Wanda of Streetman, Texas, and Lynda Lou Cathey Fairman of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren, Johnna Jackson, Gary Fairman, Daryl Cathey, Tami Fairman Natter, John Cathey Jr. and Melissa DeeAnn Cathey Cadenhead; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a loving sister, Amy Lou Harris and her husband, Joseph Wade; a very special niece, Valeria Joe Clark of Spiro; and nephew, Jerry Rhodes of Fort Smith.
A funeral service for Mrs. Atkinson will be held today at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Muskogee, Okla., with the Rev. Rex Wilkinson officiating. Interment will be 3 p.m. in Spiro Cemetery, with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren serving as pallbearers.
The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service of Muskogee, Okla., with the arrangements.

Melvin Leroy “Pa” Looper
Melvin Leroy “Pa” Looper, 48, of Arkoma died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in Van Buren. He was the operations manager for Davis Iron and Metal of Van Buren for the past 10 years, a member of Arkoma Assembly of God, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and the most wonderful husband, father, and grandfather ever!
He is survived by his wife, Helen M. Looper of the home; three daughters, Windy Goins of Spiro, Amanda Sierra of Fort Smith and Sabrina Looper of Arkoma; seven sons, Melvin Looper Jr. of Little Rock, Timothy and Christopher Looper, both of Fort Smith, James Looper of Greenwood, David Durant, Dustin Sears and Darden Durant-Looper, all of Arkoma; his mother, Mary Marie Looper of Fort Smith; four sisters, Noreen Massey of Oklahoma City, Kathy Freeman, Joyce Colone, and Rosie Looper, all of Sallisaw; two brothers, Clifford Looper of Sallisaw and Glen Looper of Fort Smith; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Arkoma Assembly of God on Friday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

Charlotte Brewer Collins
Charlotte Brewer Collins, 44, of Spiro died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in Springfield, Mo. She was born May 3, 1960, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was a medical terminology teacher at Indian Capitol Vo-Tech in Sallisaw and worked as a medical coder and in radiological services at Sparks hospital in Fort Smith. She was a Baptist.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Buffington Cemetery west of Sallisaw.
She is survived by her husband, Randy; one son, Greg Collins of Sallisaw; one uncle and aunt, Charles and Bonnie Taylor of Sallisaw; father- and mother-in-law, Harold and Louise Collins of Fort Smith; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Deborah Collins of Stilwell, Okla.; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Robert Collins, Rick Agent, Rick Shafer, David Springer, Donald Middleton and Nick Christi.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jessie Isabelle Arnold Brewer
Jessie Isabelle Arnold Brewer, 81, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004. She was born in Watts, Okla., on Oct. 6, 1922, to Virgil and Mary "Polly" Arnold.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Kenneth Brewer; three daughters, Marilyn Webb of Denver, Barbie Traub of Dallas and Kim Newsome of Atlanta; her sister, Christine Fields of Nashville, Tenn., and 11 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Ross Arnold.
She graduated from Fort Smith High School and attended both Fort Smith Junior College and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Isabelle married Ken Brewer in 1944 and moved to Little Rock in 1952. Her husband worked for Westinghouse until 1968, when he and Isabelle founded H.K. Brewer Electric. Isabelle served as secretary/treasurer for the company until it was sold in 1987.
Isabelle enjoyed traveling, reading, dancing, tending flowers, bird watching and cooking. She was devoted to her friends, and she enjoyed belonging to her Sunday School class, the Delphi Club, her sewing circle and garden club. Most of all she loved caring for her three daughters, their children and her husband. She was known by family and friends for her kindness and generosity. Her presence will be sorely missed and long remembered.
A memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Private interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith. The family will receive visitors at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham St. in Little Rock, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th St., Little Rock, AR 72204; American Cancer Society, 901 N. University, Little Rock, AR 72203; Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89053; andPulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, AR 72205.

Elizabeth Lowe
SALLISAW — Elizabeth Lowe, infant daughter of Randon and Amber Lowe of Sallisaw, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in Tulsa.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Julia Lowe of the home; and her grandparents, Randy and DeLain Lowe of Sallisaw and Pat Sanders and Cheryl Sanders, both of Gore.

Rayburn Lefler
STIGLER, Okla. — Rayburn Jim Lefler, 64, of Stigler died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, in Stigler. He was a mechanic and a member of the Lafayette Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel in Stigler with burial at Sans Bois Cemetery in Kinta, Okla., under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; four daughters, Terry Oaks of Rogers, Traci Hurst of Stigler, Leslie Riveria of Colorado City, Texas, and Pam Lefler of Houston; a son, Randy Reid of Spiro; two sisters, Virginia Hendrix of Bartlesville, Okla., and Wanda Strickland of McAlester, Okla.; a brother, J.W. Lefler of Decatur, Texas; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Jack Rogers, Dewey Bird, Mort Horton, Bill Risenhoover, Mike Rose and Wes Bumpers.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today.

Alta Masterson
SPIRO — Alta Masterson, 90, of Spiro died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, in Spiro. She was the widow of Roscoe Masterson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mallory Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro with burial at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo Collins of Spiro; one grandchild, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy, David and Danny Self, George Strain and Tony and Gary Woods.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Juanita Rowland
SPIRO — Juanita Rowland, 83, of Spiro died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, in Spiro. She was born April 15, 1921, in Stoney Point, Okla. She was a cafeteria cook for Spiro schools and the widow of Robert Rowland.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mallory Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro with burial at Spiro City Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Melba McKinney and Vicki Anderson, both of Spiro; a son, Odell Rowland of Spiro; three sisters, Jessie Timmons and Louise Shoopman, both of Keota, Okla., and Marie Autry of Madera, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David and Danny Self, Henry Jones, H.B. Hayes, Joe Richinson and Dub Means.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Mitchel Head
ARKOMA — Mitchel head, 47, of Arkoma died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in a local hospital.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Leard Cemetery of Fort smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by four sisters, Billie Beene of Spiro, Daphne Moore of Fort Smith and Laura Pryor and Rita Cusick, both of Arkoma; and one brother, Orville of Midland.

Muril Tackett
BOKOSHE — Muril “Wayne” Tackett, 64, of Bokoshe died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in a Little Rock hospital. He was retired from Arkla Gas and a rancher.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Assembly of God of Bokoshe with burial at Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three daughters, Vicki Hettinger, Shirley Swindle and Carolyn Rees, all of Bokoshe; his parents, Roy and Matha Tackett; 11 grandchildren, Tabitha, Jessie and Nick Swindle, Jonathan Watson, Stephanie Hettinger, Christy and Chris Richmond, Ashley and R.C. Rees, all of Bokoshe and Lisa and Tony Sizemore of Pocola; and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers will be R.C. Culwell, Joe Henderson, Ed Abernathy, Mike Bell, Donald Horton and Larry Culwell.

Vernice Hanna Sr.
SPIRO — Vernice Franklin Hanna Sr., 87, of Spiro died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, a former Spiro police officer, a school bus driver for Spiro Schools and a dump truck driver for LeFlore County.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lakeview Baptist Church with burial at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro.
He is survived by his wife, Odessa; two daughters, Sue Skelton of Panama and Alberta Greenwood of San Andreas, Calif.; four sons, Larry, Jonathan and Vernice Hanna Jr., all of Spiro, and Mike Hanna of Muldrow; two stepdaughters, Nora Hamby of Spiro and Jimmie Byers of Fort Smith; four stepsons, Zenas Smith of Russellville, Adrian and Dan Smith, both of Shady Point, and DeShong Smith of Helena, Okla.; a sister, Faye Redwine of Spiro; 32 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The body may be viewed noon to 8 p.m. today and Sunday at the funeral home.
