Caroline A. Dyer

Services for Caroline A. Dyer, 59, were held Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. James Swain and Rev. Brent Parsons officiating.

Interment was at Graham Cemetery, Graham under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home.

She was born on Thursday, Oct. 21, 1943 in Nashville, Tenn. to John Madison and Mary Elizabeth Atchley Madison.

She died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 in Sulphur.

On January 10, 1964 she married Olen Dyer in Tussy, Okla.

She grew up in Fox and graduated from Fox High School in 1963.

She attended Cameron University in Lawton and East Central University in Ada.

She was teacher's assistant at OSD for 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Olen Dryer, Sulphur; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shonda and Corry Flowers, Oklahoma City, Shelly and Rex Stephens, Sulphur; a sister, Patricia Collins, Davis; six grandchildren, Macey, Carson, Derrick, Sean, Ashton and Jordan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Gearldine Palmer and Linda Harris.

Pallbearers were Johnny Shores, Fred Flowers, Terry Flowers, Corry Flowers, Rayford Stephens, Rex Stephens.

Janie Iona Hunt

Graveside services for Janie Iona Hunt, 82, were held January 28 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. J.D. Glover officiating.

Interment was at the Harrah Cemetery under the direction of Cowley-Krien Funeral Home.

She was born on March 6, 1920 in Mill Creek to Jess Miller and Elizabeth Burk.

She died January 26, 2003 in Sulphur.

On April 15, 1939 she married Jeff Hunt in Tishomingo.

He preceded her in death on October 5, 1963.

She lived in Harrah before moving to Sulphur in 2000.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Zula Jean McGee, Harrah; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Katie Burns and her husband John, Sulphur.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, W.A. Hunt; one daughter, Edith Evelyn Tanner, two brothers, Jake and Johnnie Miller; and three sisters, Edith Howard, Christell DeShazo and Ruby Babb.

Louise I. DeShazer

Graveside services for Louise I. DeShazer, 68, Lafayetta, La. will be held Thursday, February 6 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Fielding officiating.

Interment will be at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.

She was born on April 24, 1934 in Davis to Ezra and Eva (Bowersox) Edwards.

She died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 in Lafayette, La.

She was married to William "Bill" DeShazer. He preceded her in death.

She was a native of Davis and a resident of Lafayette, La. for 30 years.

She was a retired registered nurse for home health and hospitals for 40 years.

She is survived by her three sons, Brian David DeShazer, Anderson, Ind., William Andrew DeShazer, Denham Springs, La., and Mark Dale DeShazer, Lafayette, La.; three grandchildren, William Anthony DeShazer and Heather Sidney-Marie DeShazer, both of Denham Spring, La. and Nathaniel DeShazer, Anderson, Ind.; two sisters, Florence Montgomery and Evelyn Willis; and one brother, Paul Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary Beth Woods Heim

Funeral service for Mary Beth Woods Heim, 40, were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Willow View United Methodist Church in Enid.

Pastor Rik Marion and Rev. Willard (Chopper) McCartney officiated.

Burial was at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, under the direction of the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Mary Beth Woods Heim was born April 13, 1962, in Garden City, Kansas to Albert A., Jr. and Nancy McGinley Woods, and died March 26, 2003.

She attended Hayes Elementary, Enid, Waller Junior High, Enid, and graduated from Enid High School in 1980.

She attended Oklahoma State University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

She graduated in 1984 with a degree in elementary education.

Mary worked at Neurological Surgery Associates in Enid for 12 years.

She then worked as a teacher at Garfield Elementary School in Enid.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Kayla and son, Ryan, of the home, parents, Al and Nancy Woods of Sun City West, Arizona, her sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Lanny Neal, Sulphur, her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Karrie Woods, Stillwater, her aunt, Carolyn Dovel, Washington, D.C., and numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made through the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home in Enid, to the Mary Beth Heim Memorial Fund at Garfield Elementary School in Enid.

Verle Wayne 'Fred' Byars

Services for Verle Wayne 'Fred' Byars, 80, Merkel, Texas, were held Tuesday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel with Karl King officiating.

Interment was at the Stith Cemetery, under the direction of North's Funeral Home.

He was born to James Edgar and Ethel Ivy Byars in Sulphur.

He died Saturday, March 15, 2003 in Merkel, TX.

In April, 1942 he married Lucille Clark.

Mr. Byars was a graduate of Sulphur High School.

He was in the Army and stationed at Camp Barkley with the 45th Division.

He was the youngest master sergeant in the service at 19 years old.

While waiting to go overseas, he joined the Army Air Force.

He spent two and a half years as bombardier instructor at Carlsbad, N.M., followed by four months combat service on Tinian Island.

He was a Captain when discharged January 14, 1946.

Before entering the service, Mr. Byars was a proofreader and reporter on the Sulphur, Oklahoma Daily News.

He attended Hardin-Simmons University and worked towards a Masters Degree in accounting.

He was senior accountant for the Harte Hanks Newspapers for 22 years. He retired in 1984.

He was a member of the Baker Heights Church of Christ and the Merkel Historical Society.

He was in several public, civic and religious organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Lucille Byars, Merkel, Texas; one son, Dennis Michael Byars and his wife, Barbara, Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Sylvia Karen Davis and her husband, Hank, Abilene, Texas; four grandchildren, Darren Davis and his wife, Mandy, Damon Byars and his wife, Terrie, Marlee Davis White, and Dow Davis; 10 great-grandchildren, Joshua Byars, Kylie Byars, Garett Byars, Devyn Byars, Drew Byars, Dayton and Daylee White, Rachel and Zoe Davis, Callie Peterson; one brother, James Edgar Byars, Mabank, Texas; one sister, Ruth Mildred Tabor, Dallas, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the Stith Cemetery (Cannon) Memorial, Stith, Texas 79536 or Keys of the Kingdom (Merkel Church of Christ), Merkel, Texas 79536.
