Olevia Fleming

Olevia Fleming of Shawnee died Sunday in a local hospital. She was 88.

She was born Aug. 31, 1910, in Blanchard, Okla., to William S. and Dealvia Stewart McMillan. She attended Paoli Schools and married Floyd E. Cagle in 1929.

She married D.A. Fleming in 1961. She had worked as a nurse, and owned and operated City Cafe in Harrah. For the past 38 years, she was a homemaker. She was a member of University Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and an infant son.

Survivors include her husband, D.A. Fleming, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Molly Cagle, Dallas, Texas; son, Jerry Cagle, LaPorte, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Zelma and Mel Adams, Richardson, Texas; daughter, Sharon Yerby, Paris, Texas; stepchildren and their spouses, Bob and Wanda Fleming, Tulsa, David and Gwen Fleming, Oklahoma City, Glen Fleming, Valley Mills, Texas, Betty and Jay Whitehead, Ada; sisters, Jewel Jackson, Harrah, and Wilma Mills, Pingrove, Calif.; brother, Earl McMillan, Harrah, 16 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at University Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Searl officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Bonnie Powers

Lifelong Shawnee resident Bonnie Powers died Monday in Tecumseh. She was 80.

She was born April 25, 1918, in Tecumseh to D.C. and Maggie (Cavender) Fowler. She married Fred Powers and he preceded her in death in 1982.

She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 15 years of service. She was a memebr of First Church of God and the Order of the Eastern Star 30 in Tecumseh from which she had received her 50-year pin.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Sebourn and Louise Fowler, Tecumseh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella Mae Sparkman, Tecumseh, Rose and Carl James, Shawnee, and James Sandefur, Tecumseh, and a number of nieces and nephews, including Barbara Burns of Tecumseh and Howard Fowler of Shawnee.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kresten Norholm officiating, assisted by the Rev. Tom Harrison. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or another charity.

Sherri Fowler Breshears

Former area resident Sherri Fowler Breshears of Garland, Texas, died Thursday at the age of 47.

She was born in Chandler and had lived in Garland for 29 years. She was a teacher's aide at Sam Houston Middle School for five years and was a Baptist.

She is survived by her children, Kristi and Brad Breshears, and their father, Brad Breshears, all of Garland, Texas; her mother, Gerry Fowler, Shawnee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Velma and Bill Green and Sandra and Carl Linduff, all of Garland, Texas, Susan and Emmitt Hale, Shawnee, Janice Fowler, Shawnee; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde A. Fowler, and her brother, Clyde A. Fowler Jr.

Services were Monday at Williams Funeral Directors in Garland, Texas. Burial will be 2 p.m. today in Shawnee. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Frank B. Otis Jr.

Lifelong Okemah resident Frank B. Otis Jr. died Sunday at a Pryor nursing home. He was 78.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. today at Highland Cemetery, Okemah, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

He was born Dec. 2, 1919, in Okemah, the son of Frank B. and Romola B. (White) Otis. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church.

He is survived by his niece, Rose Marie Hough of Pryor.

Leathel Marshall

Lifelong area resident Leathel Marshall of Shawnee died Sunday in a local nursing home. She was 94.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

She was born Nov. 21, 1903, in Little, Okla., to Frank and Ellen (Tibbs) McCoy. She married Wyman O. Marshall and had lived in and around Shawnee all her life. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Barnard and Anna Marshall, William and Evelyn Marshall, and Kenneth and Janie Marshall, all of Shawnee; her daughter, Sue Marshall, Shawnee; sisters, Doris Cowen, Visalia, Calif., and Novella Lobre, Morra Bay, Calif.; brother, Manuel McCoy, Shawnee; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, three sisters and one brother.

Regina Hess

Regina "Reg" Hess, 20, of Newcastle, granddaughter of the Rev. Wayne and Karen Ray of Paden, died Saturday in Newcastle following an automobile accident.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Newcastle. Burial will be 5 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Paden. The Rev. Ronnie J. Harrison will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.

She was born Dec. 12, 1977, in West Plains, Mo., one of three children of William Jerome Hess and Paula Lorene Ray Hess. She grew up in Colorado and moved to Newcastle in 1988. She was a 1996 graduate of Newcastle High School where she was catcher and outfielder in girls softball, had been on the track team that made state finals, and was active in other sports and activities. She was named "Offensive Player of the Year" for the Western Division All-Conference softball during her junior year, "Who's Who in Sports" and received many other awards. She played Division 1 softball on scholarship at Wichita State University in Kansas for the past two years.

She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Helen Lorene Ray.

Surviving are her mother, Paula Hess, Newcastle; father, Jerome Hess, Simla, Colo.; brothers, Paul Hess and Jeremy Hess, both of Newcastle; grandparents, the Rev. Wayne and Karen Ray, Paden, Winfred and Lois Hess, Pounding Mill, Va., and Bonnie and Flem Ball, Emerald Isle, N.C.; great-grandmother, Sadie Campbell, Doran, Va., and many other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Regina Hess Memorial Fund, Tri-Star Bank, 1308 N. Main, Newcastle, Okla., 73065.

Dorothy Ola Fulsom

Okemah resident Dorothy Ola Fulsom died Saturday at her home. She was 88.

Services were Monday at Okemah Church of Christ with Bro. James Branscum officiating and Ed Cooper assisting. Burial was in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Mrs. Fulsom was born Oct. 15, 1909, in Subiaco, Ark., to James Columbus and Minta Bennett Columbus. She married Cash Madison Fulsom in Okemah on Oct. 14, 1939.

Mrs. Fulsom retired from teaching after 20 years in the Okfuskee County area. She coached basketball at Plainview and Sunrise Schools. She was a member of the Okemah Church of Christ and the Okemah Retired Educators.

Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Pelley, Okemah; step-sons, Ray Fulsom and Earl Fulsom, both of Okemah, Sam Fulsom and Dale Fulsom, both of Oklahoma City; step-daughter, Louise Johnson, Gladstone, Mo.; sister, Sibyl Wilson, Okemah; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 7, 1986.

Ollie Gage

Wanette resident Ollie Gage died Monday in a local nursing home at the age of 98.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Thomas B. Carruth Sr.

Thomas B. "Tom" Carruth Sr. of Shawnee died Monday in a local hospital at the age of 81.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church with burial at 3 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore.

Further arrangements will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Rex Eugene Stone

Rex Eugene Stone died Tuesday in Bossier City, La. He was 66.

Stone was born June 30, 1932, in Davenport to S.W. "Hoot" and Clara (Herd) Stone. He married June Spurgin on Aug. 5, 1951 in Stroud.

Stone lived in Edmond before moving to Noble, La., in 1995. He was a member of the City Church in Oklahoma City.

Stone was retired from the Edmond School District. He helped organize the All Sports Officials Association in Stillwater where he held the offices of president, vice president and commissioner.

He was also a member of Oklahoma City Greater Officials Association, the Oklahoma High School Officials Association, Oklahoma Christian Athletes Association and the Tulsa Officials Association.

Survivors include his wife, June Stone, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley Don and Paula Stone, Oklahoma City; daughter and son-in-law, Rex Andrea and Tony McCllough, Guam; daughter, Vicki Grice, Edmond; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Willetta Stone, Stroud; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jan and Jerry Campbell, Noble, La.; Don and Verba Spurgin, Oklahoma City; mother-in-law, Vivian Spurgin, Stroud; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel, Stroud, with Randy Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in Stroud Cemetery.
