Elwood Hackett

Oklahoma City resident Elwood "Red" Hackett, 71, died Thursday. Hackett was born June 16, 1927, in Shawnee to Lonnie and Verda Hackett.

He had lived in the Oklahoma City area since 1954 and was an Army veteran. He worked for Waukesha-Pearce Industries for more than 37 years and retired in 1991.

He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church, the VFW, Oklahoma Bluegrass Club, the Greater Oklahoma City Bluegrass Club and the Happy Sam's Camping Club.

Survivors include his wife, Ovella, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Paris and Steve Wood, Oklahoma City; Rena and Frank Graham, Hattiesburg, Miss.; daughter, Ginger Flanagan, Oklahoma City; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Nancy McAlister, Dallas, Texas; Victor and Sara McAlister, Oklahoma City; son, Mike McAlister, Oklahoma City; brother and sister-in-law, S. D. and Laquita Hackett, Shawnee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Adriane and Alfred Bryce, Shawnee; Darleene and Jim Shehi, Springfield, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one brother and two wives, Joann and Ellena.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Southwest Baptist Church. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of Bill Merritt South Funeral Service, Oklahoma City.

Gwindle Cox

Gwindle "Buck" Cox died Friday at the Creek Nation Hospital in Okemah. He was 66.

He was born April 29, 1933, in Ada, Okla., the son of Archie and Effie (Brecheen) Cox. He was a veteran, and served in the U.S. armed forces in Korea.

In November, 1983, he married Dorothy Lorena Glasco. He was a former lawman, cowboy and was employed as a printer with the Lincoln County News. He attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Okemah, and was a resident of Okfuskee County when he died.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cox, of the home in Okemah; three sons, Oran Lee Cox of Chandler; Joe Buck Cox of Norman; and Marshall Stipe Cox of Chandler; one daughter, Jimmie Sarene Deets of Nixa, Mo., and two stepdaughters, Debbie Stotts of Okemah; and Becky Watts of Welty; and one grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, with Betty Wideman officiating and the Rev. Charlie Stotts assisting. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Mabel Eaves Lane

Mabel Eaves Lane died June 4 at her home. She was 67.

Burial took place June 7 at Neal Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with Jimmie Don Gibson officiating.

Eleanor Mae Knight

Eleanor Mae Knight of Tecumseh died Thursday at a local hospital. She was 77.

She was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Judith Gap, Mont., to Art and Sadie Davis. She was raised in Judith Gap, Montana and graduated from high school in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.

She married Robert Knight on Nov. 2, 1941, in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. She was a member of the First Church of God in Shawnee; and had lived in Tecumseh for the past 26 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and one brother, Perry Davis.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Knight of the home; two sons, Kenneth J. Knight of Roseville, N.M.; Ronald D. Knight of Spencer; daughters Sharon Lee of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and Carol Snow of Tecumseh; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Davis of Hurricane, Utah; one sister, Blanche Carrell of Gilchrist, Ore.

A Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Church of God with the Rev. Tom Harrison and Rev. Leland Watkins officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch Walker Funeral Chapel.

James King

James "Jim" King, 67, died Thursday in his Seminole home.

He was born in Wolf, Okla., on Jan. 4, 1934, the son of William R. and Van T. (Cook) King.

He was a member of Ideal Street Baptist Church and was a 32nd degree Mason.

King and Janice Goodspeed were married Dec. 25, 1953, in Weleetka.

He retired in 1985 from Local 798 of Tulsa and retired in 1994 from Okemah Construction, where he worked as a construction foreman.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Mark King; one brother, Bill King, and stepfather, Charlie Winsell.

Survivors include his wife of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy K. and Janis King of Shawnee, and Mike G. and Tina King of Midwest City; grandchildren, Kay Lyn King-Ray, Linsay King, Ashley King, Kristen King, Mark King and Michael King; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glen Pence officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery.

Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Julia Jean Wilson-Scraper

Julia Jean Wilson-Scraper, 58, died Thursday in Shawnee.

She was born in Oklahoma City March 5, 1943, the daughter of Francis James and Margaret Alice (Brave-Whitewater) Wilson.

She was a graduate of Tribbey High School.

On April 23, 1965, she married Winston Scraper in San Francisco, Calif.

Wilson-Scraper was a homemaker and had lived in Shawnee most of her life. She lived in Cushing for 10 years.

Wilson-Scraper was a member of the Absentee-Shawnee Tribe.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of the home; son, Ben Scraper of Shawnee; daughter, Margaret Scraper of Cushing; three grandchildren; her brothers, Jimmy Wilson of Cushing and Paul Wilson of Oklahoma City; and sisters, Georgia Whitewater of Oklahoma City, Rosemary Locust of Vian, Susan Bates of Meeker, Lorraine Whitewater of Shawnee and and Denica Wilson of Little Axe.

Services were 2 p.m. Friday at Nagawee Methodist Church, Shawnee. Dave Wakolee officiated. Burial was in Jamison Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lee Darty

Longtime Shawnee resident Lee Darty died Thursday in Stillwater at the age of 88.

The son of Haley and Annie (Cagle) Darty was born in Halyville, Ala., July 15, 1912.

He was raised in Haleyville. He had lived in Shawnee, but had recently moved to Stillwater, where he was living at the time of his death.

On June 8, 1940, he married Lois Garrison in Tuscumbia, Ala.

Darty worked as a farmer and bottler for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. He was a member of the Methodist church in Alabama.

Preceding him in death were his wife, parents and two sons, David and Ricky.

Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Gregson of Stillwater; son, Michael Darty of Stillwater; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Private services were held Thursday in Stillwater. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery at a later date.

Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charlcie Little

Shawnee resident Charlcie Little died Thursday in a Midwest City hospital. She was 72.

Services are pending under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Rex Dewane Treat Jr.

Rex Dewane Treat Jr. died Thursday. The Shawnee resident was 20 years old.

Services are pending under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Walker Comer Watts

Walker Comer "W.C." Watts died Tuesday at Creek Nation Community Hospital at the age of 55.

The son of Bert R. and Laddie (Barkus) Watts was born in Wewoka Jan. 7, 1946.

He attended Douglas Grade School and had graduated from Wewoka High School.

He was a rodeo judge, steer wrestler and team roper.

The Boley resident was a former Seminole County sheriff's deputy and, in the early 1990s, had served as police chief of Boley. He also worked at Wilson Packing Company in Oklahoma City.

He was married to Janet V. Glenn.

Watts served in the U.S. Army. He was an Okfuskee County deputy sheriff at the time of his death.

His parents and two sisters precede Watts in death.

Survivors include his wife; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sheila Smith of Dallas, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Marcus Nesbit of Dallas, Theresa and Terry Hines of Oklahoma City, Kimberely Watts Beasley of Oklahoma City, and Shamea Watts of Midwest City; brothers, Eddie Chandler and Anthony Watts, both of Shawnee; sisters, Vivian Watts of Los Angeles, Calif., LuVerta Cobbs of Indianapolis, Ind., Kathuryan Green of New York City, N.Y., and Marva O'Neil of Shawnee; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Okemah.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka. Anthony Watts will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery, Wewoka. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Clarence (C.T.) Willoughby

Shawnee resident Clarence Willoughby died Sunday in his home at the age of 85.

Willoughby was born July 8, 1916, in Oklahoma City to James Vernon Willoughby and Maud Pearl (Sanders) Willoughby.

He managed Independence Street Greenhouse for many years. After a move, he continued the business at Route 5 until retirement.

On May 18, 1940, Willoughby married Irene Ellis, who preceded him in death. He later married Florence Edna Berry on June 7, 1981.

He also is preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife Florence of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen and James Adams of Fort Worth, Texas, Janice and Floyd McCalip of Oklahoma City and Margie Willoughby of Shawnee; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Pat Willoughby of Shawnee; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James McCalip and the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home.
