Lucille Billie Lambert Burchield

Lucille Billie Lambert Burchield of Payson, Ariz., died Tuesday at the age of 90.

She was born Feb. 21, 1911, in Jenkins, Okla.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Brooks of Tonto Basin, Ariz.; one son, George Cundiff, Bakersfield, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Maud. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight Funeral Home, Maud.

Thelma Naomi Chamblin

Thelma Naomi Chamblin of Shawnee died Monday at a local nursing home. She was 80.

She was born May 29, 1920, in McAlester to Alonzo and Rosa (Snider) Turnbow. She graduated from Earlsboro High School in 1939.

On Feb. 18, 1950, she married Bryant W. Chamblin in Red Oak, Texas. Mrs. Chamblin, a longtime Earlsboro resident, had lived in the Shawnee area since 1953.

Mrs. Chamblin retired from Shawnee Regional Hospital, where she was a nurses aide. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bryant W. Chamblin of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Nolan Spaugy, Shawnee; Barbara and Tom Bundesen, Bridgecreek; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Georgianne Couey, Midwest City; Gary and Fannie Chamblin, Ventura, Calif.; Tony and Janie Chamblin, Edmond; daughter-in-law, Betty and her husband Kenneth Willis, Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruby Fink, Rialto, Calif.; and Lois Walker, Odessa, Texas; numerous grandchildren including Gary Chamblin II of the home; Paula, Guy and Jeff Chamblin, Jason Couey, Vickey Zediker and Deana Reece, all of Shawnee; Stacy Woodard, Tecumseh; and Chris Spaugy, Bethel; numerous great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Edna McConnell; brother, Elmer Turnbow; son, James Chamblin; and grandchildren, Donna Chamblin, Joseph Couey and Angela Reece.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Angelica Hospice, 421 N. Beard, Shawnee, OK 74801.

Vonda C. Monroe

Vonda C. Monroe of Shawnee died Friday at a local hospital. She was 50.

She was born March 15, 1951, in Eureka, Calif., to Carl W. and Wanda M. (Gilbert) Smith. She graduated from Norwalk High in California.

In 1968, she married David R. Monroe in California.

Mrs. Monroe, a longtime Shawnee resident, was a waitress and attended Living Word Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherry L. Monroe; mother, Wanda M. Hurd; two sisters, Rebecca Keel and Roberta Hurd; brother, Douglas Hurd; four nephews, three nieces and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Carlos W. Smith.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Living Word Church with the Rev. J. Clifton Briscoe officiating. Resthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Living Word Church, 3831 N. Kickapoo, Shawnee, OK 74804.

Mary Evangeline McLeod

Mary Evangeline McLeod of Shawnee died Monday at a local nursing home. She was 93.

Services will be noon Friday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church with Father Maurus Jaeb officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Alpha Lou Roper

Alpha Lou Roper of Shawnee died Monday at a Midwest City nursing home. She was 91.

She was born July 12, 1909, in Clarksville, Ark., to George and Nancy (Clark) Puckett. She attended school in the Shawnee area.

On Dec. 6, 1929, she married Alva Akin in Chandler. She married Ules "Rube" M. Roper in January 1972 in Chandler.

Mrs. Roper was employed at a laundromat for 22 years and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Wyatt, Stillwater; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Betty Akin, Del City; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Edna Robison, Marion, Ill.; Ruth Dean, California; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Bill Matthews officiating.

Elizabeth Spicer Holland

Elizabeth Spicer Holland of Panama, Okla., died Monday in Fort Smith, Ark. She was 71.

She was born Aug. 6, 1929, in Shawnee to Ullie F. and Anna (Ellison) Melot. She had lived in Panama for 17 years.

On April 1, 1990, she married Earl Holland in Fort Smith, Ark.

She retired from Pacific Bell, where she worked 17 years as a telephone operator. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Panama and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of the home; four sons, Robert Bruce Barnes, Oakland, Calif.; Leo David Barnes, Coyote, Calif.; David Holland and Russell Holland, both of Greenwood, Ark.; two daughters, Deborah Spicer Moore, Halifax, Va.; Delena Spicer Supinski, Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Chuck Melot, Tecumseh; Matthew E. Melot, Coyote, Calif.; two sisters, Maxine Forester, Willows, Calif., and Billie Jean Johnson, Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Stephen Randolph Barnes; and sister, Maurine Dibbler.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Grace Manor Chapel in Poteau. Burial will be at a later date in Greenhill Cemetery, Cameron, Okla., under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home.

Edward Dewey Dukes

Edward Dewey "Bud" Dukes died Monday in Paden. He was 76.

Dukes was born April 21, 1925, in Paden to Arthur Dewey "Socks" and Alta Belle (Little) Dukes.

The Harrah resident was a member of the McLoud Masonic Lodge, McAlester Consistory.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and retired from Tinker Air Force Base, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic for 20 years.

On Jan. 15, 1948, he married Dolores VanZandt in Weleetka.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Dukes, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Larry Anthony and Sherry Dukes, Broken Arrow; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Cheryl Dukes and family and Darrell and Maxine Dukes and family, all of Prague; sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Merle Martin and family, McLoud; four sisters-in-law, Wanda Shivers, Joy and her husband, Jim, Richmond, Rose Johnson and Shirley Bean; nephew, Pat Richmond; and three grandchildren, Tony Dukes, Emily Dukes and Amanda Dukes, all of Broken Arrow.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Prague with Tim Emmons and Chaplain Boarts officiating. Burial will follow in the Paden Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Prague.

Maudie Fern Coffey

Maudie Fern (Griffin) Coffey, 61, Seminole, died Tuesday at age 61.

She was born May 8, 1939, in Seminole to Charley and Maggie (Jackson) Griffin. On Dec. 8, 1960, she married the Rev. Arthur W. Coffey in Seminole.

Mrs. Coffey was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, two sons, Mark Anthony and Mathew Arnold; daughter, Manuala Devona; several brothers and a half-sister.

Survivors include her mother, Maggie Griffin, Seminole; her husband, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Wayne Timmons, Seminole; Michelle and Bruce Fields, Moore; brother, Foy Wayne Griffin, California; sister, Charlene Talamasey, Seminole; and four grandchildren, Heather Parsons, James Timmons, Rachael Timmons and Jerad Fields.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Chesser Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Jo Fisher

Services for Jo Fisher, 83, Seminole, are 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearington Funeral Chapel.

Dr. Kelvin Moseley and the Rev. John Lively will officiate; burial will follow in Holdenville Cemetery.

She was born March 16, 1918, in Spaulding to A.W. and Mona V. Coston Weaver.

Mrs. Fisher, a long-time resident of Seminole, was employed at First Federal Savings and Loan from 1959 until she retired as an escrow officer in 1983. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, three sisters and two grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Judith Christopher, Wewoka; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald K. Sr. and Anita Fisher, Copperas Cove, Texas; one sister, Edith Martin, Sallisaw; four grandchildren, Donald K. Fisher Jr., South English, Iowa; Natasha Hobbs and husband, David Hobbs, Leonard Wood, Mo.; Dana Bateman and husband, Mark Bateman, Seminole; Derek Christopher and wife, Lisa Christopher, Wewoka; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

John N. Johnson

John N. Johnson died Monday at his Bowlegs home. He was 85.

Johnson was born April 15, 1916, in Oklahoma City to John Nelse and Cordia (Dotson) Johnson.

On Sept. 26, 1965, he married Frankie (Harrison) Johnson in Durant.

He moved from McIntosh County to Seminole County 40 years ago and worked as a trucking contractor. He opened C&J Trucks and retired in 1971. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Frankie Johnson, of the home; son, Burl Collinsworth, Norman; two daughters, Carol Harris, Irving, Texas; Ann Farrell, New Castle; two brothers, Jess Johnson, Shawnee; Jack Johnson, Oklahoma City; sister, Nora Borthick, Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Free Will Baptist Church with David McDougal officiating. Burial will be in Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

George DeWitt Wright

McLoud resident George DeWitt Wright died Saturday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 74.

Wright was born July 11, 1925, in Butler to John R. "Bob" and Mary A. (Monk) Wright. He married Opal O. Scheidt on July 6, 1943.

He worked for OG&E from 1947 to 1952, as a fireman and engineer for Rock Island Railroad from 1952 to 1979 and for the Santa Fe Railroad from 1979 until his retirement in 1987.

He entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 20, 1943, and served the 615th Railroad Engineering Battalion throughout France, Belgium and Germany.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of McLoud and served on the board of trustees. He was past president of McLoud Quarterback Club and McLoud AARP chapter, lifetime member of the Harrah VFW, commander of American Legion Post 244 and 52-year member of McLoud Lodge No. 126 AM & AF.

He was a 50-year member of the Guthrie Scottish Rite Consistory, 32nd degree, served two terms as mayor of McLoud and served several years on the McLoud Board of Trustees. He was a member of Oklahoma State Legislation Committee for AARP, served on the Oversight Committee for Pottawatomie County one-cent sales tax and was chairman of the local chapter of Locomotive Engineers Union for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Wright, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry D. and Donna M. Wright and Jimmy D. Wright, all of McLoud; four grandsons, Steven K. Wright, Paden, Christopher A. Wright, Norman, and Shane A. Wright and Justin D. Wright, both of McLoud; two granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Michelle D. and Jack Miller, McLoud, and Lindsey P. Wright, Midwest City; three great-granddaughters, Haile B. Wright, Paden, Erica M. Robbins and Emily R. Miller, McLoud; great-grandson, Austin Cole Miller, McLoud; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John R. "Jay" and Evelyn Wright, San Angelo, Texas, and Dixie H. and Toni Wright, McLoud; sister, Lula Mae Miller, Bakersfield, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Woodrow Wright, Jesse M. Wright and Cecil L. and Kathrine Wright; and sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Ewell Kinkead.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, McLoud, with the Rev. Larry Sparks and the Rev. Mike Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of McLoud Building Fund.
