James J. Jones

James "Jamie" J. Jones, 81, of Shawnee died Friday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

He was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Weleetka, the son of Isaac Edgar and Lula M. (Fennell) Jones.

Jones graduated form Shawnee High School in 1941 and married Winona L. Donham on Nov. 24, 1954.

He retired from an auditor position with the Oklahoma Tax Commission in 1983.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, having been stationed in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and American Legion and a lifetime member of the Elks Club. He had lived in Shawnee most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eleanor Branson Jones; three brothers, Clinton, Johnny and Lewis "Kasey;" and two sisters, Lois Harlow and Inez Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Winona Jones of the home; four nieces and their spouses, Alice "Snooky" and Warren Heatley, JoAnn and Gary Gilley and Terri and Gary Johnson, all of Shawnee, and Linda K. and Tom Williams of Oklahoma City; two nieces, Jenny Atkinson of Shawnee and Patricia Smith of Tecumseh; three nephews and their spouses, William and Gay Johnston of Shawnee, Bill and Sue Rutledge of Oklahoma City and Lewis and Dee Jones of Edmond; a nephew, Steve Simpson of Shawnee; and many other relatives.

A service will be 2 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kay Smith officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Bobby Gene Pollard

Bobby Gene Pollard, 47, of Shawnee died Sunday at his home.

He was born May 3, 1954, in Lexington, Ky., the son of Raymond Gene Pollard.

Pollard retired from Shawnee Milling Co. after 21 years of service as a lead person.

He married Sun Cha Park on June 7, 1973, in Korea.

He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the BCTGM Local 117-G.

Pollard moved to Shawnee in 1976 and had lived here since then.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a stepbrother.

Survivors include his wife, Sun Cha Pollard of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Jeanie Pollard of Shawnee and Raymond and Shelly Pollard of Tecumseh; three grandsons, Dillon, Dustin and Kody; a granddaughter, Hailey; his father and stepmother, Raymond Gene and Anne Pollard of Lexington, Ky.; several brothers and sisters; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Arrangements were handled by Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Wesley A. "Banks" Lankford

Seminole resident Wesley A. "Banks" Lankford died Tuesday at the age of 75.

Survivors include his wife, Grace (McKee) Lankford of the home; sons, Gary Lankford of Seminole and Jeff Lankford of Earlsboro; daughters, Vicki Johnson and Connie Winlock, both of Seminole; brothers Roy Lankford of Francis, Okla., Jerry, James and Steve Lankford, all of Hobart; sisters, Betty Jones of Arkansas and Wanda Rogers of Hobart; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doyle Long officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Lois Fillmore Charkowske

Lois Fillmore Charkowske, 74, Chandler, died Thursday in Edmond.

She was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Sturgis, Mich., to Leo and Minnie (Ettinger) Fillmore.

On June 3, 1950, she married John Charkowske in Coldwater, Mich.

She worked for Columbia Records and the U.S. government for several years. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Chandler.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, John L. Charkowske, Chandler; two sons, Mark Charkowske, Fresno, Calif., John K. Charkowske, Chandler; two brothers, Barnard Fillmore and Leon Fillmore, both of Coldwater; four grandchildren, Amy Charkowske, Fresno, and John D. Charkowske, Shaun Charkowske and Christopher Charkowske, all of Chandler.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God Church in Chandler with the Rev. Doyle Seeley officiating. Burial will follow in Davenport Cemetery under the direction of Parks Funeral Home.

William E. Simmons

William E. "Bill" Simmons, 79, of Shawnee died Tuesday in a local nursing home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Tribbey, the son of Frank H. and Ethel I. (Dearmore) Simmons.

Simmons attended school in Tribbey, graduating from Tribbey High School.

He worked 35 years for Sears, serving as manager of the automotive service center.

Simmons was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist's mate from 1942-45.

He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Square Eights Square Dance Club. He played softball for several years and lived in the Shawnee-Tecumseh area most of his life.

He married Rita Powers Guffey on July 17, 1980, in Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob Simmons.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, LaNell and Gerald Montgomery of Shawnee; two daughters, Diana McElroy and Cheryle Ann Littleton, both of Oklahoma City; three stepsons, James Guffey of San Jose, Calif., Richard Guffey of Rancho, Calif., and Don Guffey of Highland Ranch, Colo.; a sister, Velma Ruth Calvert of Noble; a sister-in-law, Kay Simmons of Noble; three grandchildren, Kristine Williams of Dallas, Sara Littleton of Tecumseh and Clay Littleton of Oklahoma City; and five step-grandchildren.

A service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Resthaven Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated Special Care Inc., 12201 S. Western, Oklahoma City, OK 73114 as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Della Mae Weaver

Della Mae Weaver, 80, of Bowlegs died Tuesday at a Wewoka nursing home.

Survivors include her son, Bobby Weaver and his wife, Linda of Edmond; daughter, Vivian Lawson and her husband Jim of Wewoka; daughter-in-law, Rozena Weaver of Westville; two brothers, Sterling Gray and his wife Cleo of Oklahoma City and Alva Lynn Gray of Wewoka; one sister, Shirley Linn and her husband Don of Denton, Texas; sister-in-law, Irene Gray of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bowlegs First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Harrison and the Rev. Jason Yarbrough officiating. Burial will follow at Dora Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

John Lloyd Ford Jr.

John Lloyd Ford Jr., 93, of Shawnee died Monday.

He was born in Shawnee on March 5, 1909, to J. Lloyd and Francis Sims Ford and has been a lifelong resident.

He began working for Shawnee Milling Company in 1934, the company his father founded in 1906. He was a master printer at Shawnee Milling Company until his semi-retirement in 1991, and had received a 60-year service award pin.

Ford attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma State University, where he was active in the University Band.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church for more than 80 years, sang in the church choir for more than 50 years, and sang in a local barber shop quartet. He also attended Liberty Baptist Church.

He was a motorcycle enthusiast for most of his life. He was also active in the Shawnee Community Center.

Ford was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leslie; and sister, Betty Hestbeck of Florida.

Survivors include his sister, Katherine Wallace Hudson of Oklahoma City; a sister-in-law, Margaret Ford of Norman; numerous nieces and nephews, including Bill Ford of Shawnee; and a host of friends.

The Ford family has requested memorials be made to the Oklahoma Baptist University Ford Music Hall.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Calmes officiating. The service will be under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Home.

Curtis "Clyde" Tomlinson

Curtis "Clyde" Tomlinson, 38, of Harrah died Jan. 9 at his home.

Survivors include a son, Wesley Tomlinson, of the home; his mother, Annette Morris of Midwest City; special friend and companion, Sue Henry; two stepchildren, Keith Parker and D'Anna Cooper; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Mark Wyskup of Harrah and Carla and Stephen Lawson of Midwest City; a step-granddaughter and other relatives.

A service was held Saturday at the Asa Smith Chapel in Harrah with Jimmy Holbrook of the Freewill Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Olivet Cemetery in Perkins.

Arrangements were handled by Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Alene McAnulty

Alene McAnulty, 84, of Maud died Monday in Oklahoma City.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Darlene Reed of Waxahachie, Texas; three sons, Jack Roberts, Robert McAnulty and James McAnulty, all of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church, Maud, with the Rev. Tim Martin officiating. Burial will be in Connerville Cemetery in Connerville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home, Maud.

Richard Schalk

Shawnee resident Richard Schalk, 61, died Tuesday at his home.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glen Pence officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Gertrude Elizabeth Ream

Gertrude Elizabeth Ream died Tuesday in Shawnee. She was 83.

Mrs. Ream was born on Nov. 4, 1916, in Payson, to Oscar and Nellie (Sturdevant) Hembree.

She moved at an early age to Shawnee, where she was educated.

She married James A. Ream in 1931 in Guthrie.

Mrs. Ream was a member of the Wellington, Kan., First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ream in 1984; daughter, Betty Mae Billings in 1997; son, Charles A. Ream in 1983; and her parents, Oscar and Nellie Hembree.

Survivors include her two sons, Lyle James Ream, Wellington, Kan.; James I. Ream, Shawnee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Nelda Ream, Wellington, Kan.; son-in-law, Bill Billings, Wellington, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, at Hawks Funeral Home in Wellington, Kan.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at First Christian Church in Wellington with Pastor Sallie Shore officiating.

Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
