George Roy Patterson

George Roy Patterson died Wednesday at his home in Prague. He was 67.

He was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Ecantuska Bottom, southwest of Prague, the son of Ernest Patterson and Viola Roberts Patterson. He attended school at Liberty Mounds and Tuskegee.

Patterson served in the U.S. Army in Korea, receiving the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

On April 8, 1955, he married Mary Ellen Southerland in Sapulpa.

He retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1988 after 33 years. A member of the First Baptist Church in Prague, he had been a resident of Lincoln County for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, David W. Patterson, three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Patterson of the home in Prague; two sons, Daniel A. Patterson and Thomas Lee Patterson, both of Prague; two daughters, Deborah A. Mayfield of Prague and Violet L. Hobbs of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Jim Patterson and Joe Patterson both of Okemah; three sisters, Ruth Hart, Lois Patterson and Lillie Patterson, all of Okemah, and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Prague with the Rev. Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will be in the Tuskegee Cemetery under the of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

Stephen Matthew Spain

Stephen Matthew Spain, Lawton, died Sunday at his residence. He was 25.

He was born Dec. 15, 1975, in San Jose, Calif., to Jerry Wayne and Dorinda June (Gleason) Spain. He married Chera Denae Kettleman on July 15, 2000, in Wichita, Kan.

He graduated from North Eastern Oklahoma Junior College with an associate of arts degree in communications. At the time of his death he was employed at KSWO in Lawton as an audio mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include wife, Chera Denae of the home; daughter, Taylar Jade of the home; parents, Dorinda and Jerry Spain, Lawton; brother and family, Robert James, Carla Sharlene and Xavier William Tecumseh Spain, Scotts Valley, Calif.; maternal grandparents, Robert Duane and Anita Marie Gleason, Santa Maria, Calif.; paternal grandparents, James Henry and Beulah May Spain, Okemah; mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law, Mancy "Mia" and Mike Grider, Wichita, Kan.; father-in-law and stepmother-in-law, Jim and Brenda Tarry, Wichita, Kan.; stepsister-in-law, Carly Tarry; brother-in-law and family, Chad, Susie and Skylar Kettleman; grandmother-in-law, Betty Kettleman and many aunts, uncles and paternal great-grandparents.

Services were 1 p.m. Thursday at the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Lawton with the Rev. Jimmy Green, pastor, City Heights Baptist Church, Duncan officiating will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Wichita.

Memorials may be made to The Spain Memorial Fund, Local Oklahoma Bank, 1420 S.W. Lee Blvd., Lawton, Okla. 73501.

Vida Burch

Vida Burch, Clearview, died Wednesday in Oklahoma City. She was 88.

She was born May 15, 1912, in Oklahoma, the daughter of William Henry and Mae (Moon) Williams.

She lived with her husband, Gilbert Burch, in Okfuskee County near Clearview.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Burch, Clearview, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah with the Rev. Carl Clay officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Mary N. Shackelford

Longtime Shawnee resident Mary N. Shackelford died Saturday in Edmond. She was 84.

Mrs. Shackelford was born Feb. 11, 1914, in McAlester to Samuel and Sarah (Eslick) Newman. She married A.E. Shackelford in 1934 in Pittsburg County.

Reared in McAlester, Mrs. Shackelford had lived in the Tecumseh and Shawnee areas since 1934 and lived on a farm east of Tecumseh for 28 years.

She retired as cafeteria manager at Barnard School in Tecumseh and was a member of Missionary Baptist Church in Shawnee.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda Shackelford, Jones; son-in-law, Dr. Clem Cottom Jr., Bixby; six grandchildren, Vicki Linker, DeeAnn, Sandi, Jerry and Chet Cottom and Terri Lynn Cloud; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and many other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 1, 1975; her daughter, Cleo Cottom; her parents; and two brothers, Rufus and John Newman.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Mick Cotton officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

LaVerne Mask

LaVerne "Mom" Mask, 85, Oklahoma City, died Saturday at her residence.

She was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Hooker to Sam and Maudie Parsons. She graduated from Lone Wolf High School and Chickasha Women's State College. She married Ira Mask in 1935 at Hobart, and he preceded her in death in 1980. She worked at the Coachman Inn. She was a protestant.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Jeffery Mask.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry L. Mask, Shawnee, and James M. Mask, Oklahoma City; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tony Watts officiating.

Marie Rose Black

Widow of a principal chief of the Sac and Fox Tribe Marie Rose Black died Sunday at a Ponca City hospital at the age of 88.

She was born May 3, 1911, in Beggs, the daughter of Marion Elmer and Mary Elizabeth (Gorman) Carter. She attended Milfay Schools and Central State University.

On Sept. 29, 1930, she married Amos Earl Black Jr. in Newkirk. He served as Principal Chief of the Sac and Fox Tribe until his death in 1954. They lived in the Cushing area where they were engaged in farming and ranching. Mrs. Black taught school in the Milfay area and later was a social worker out of Stillwater with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. She retired in 1976.

In the mid-1980s, she moved to Ponca City and was a member of First Baptist Church where she was part of the Silvertone Choir and the Naomi Sunday school class. She also continued her participation in Indian cultural events.

Her parents also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son, Amos Earl Black III, Anadarko; daughters, Marjorie Ama Black Roane, Lakeville, Minn., and Mary E. Osborn, Ponca City; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Indian prayer service will be 7 p.m. today at Trout Funeral Home Chapel in Ponca City. The family will gather at the Mary Osborn home in Ponca City. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel with the Rev. Larry Masters officiating.

Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stroud Cemetery with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Baptist Children's Homes in care of the First Baptist Church, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Nannie E. Roundtree

Nannie E. Roundtree died Saturday at the age of 93.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Pentecostal Holiness Church in Cromwell with the Rev. Farron Oliver officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

She was born June 24, 1905, at Muldrow to Velda Anthony Reed and Minnie E. Dodson. She married William Finis Roundtree on May 2, 1927, and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and member of the Cromwell Pentecostal Holiness Church. She moved to Cromwell in 1949.

Also preceding her in death were one son, Harold Roundtree; two daughters, Josephine Stroud and Loretta Whisnant; three stepsons, four stepdaughters, five brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are her sons, Troy Roundtree, Cromwell and Kenneth Roundtree, Blackwell; daughter, Dollie Stanfield, Franklin, Texas; brothers, Jack Reed, Carson, Calif., and Anthony Reed, Homeland, Calif.; sister, Tressie Leggett, Citrus Heights, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Helen Elizabeth Lane

Former Shawnee resident Helen Elizabeth Lane, mother of Janis Sue Yarbrough of Shawnee, died Friday in a Hannibal, Mo., nursing home. She was 92.

She was born July 22, 1906, in Brookfield, Mo., to Isaac Benjamin and Elva Helen (Huffaker) Cooper. She married Errol Jennings Lane in Brookfield on May 18, 1933, and he preceded her in death in 1981. They lived on a farm at the St. Catharine community in Missouri and she was a member of Linhart Improvement Club. She also was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Bucklin, Mo., where she taught children's Sunday school, vacation Bible school and missions groups, and was in the choir and Women's Missionary Union.

She was a graduate of Brookfield High School and earned a bachelor of science in education and master of arts degrees from Northeast Missouri State Teachers' College at Kirksville. She was a teacher in Brookfield and White School at rural St. Catharine, Mo., and retired in 1972 after many years of service. She was a member of several professional groups including Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of University Women and Missouri Retired Teachers Association.

From 1981 to 1995, Mrs. Lane resided in Shawnee where she was a member of First Baptist Church, Baptist Women and Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association. She moved to Hannibal in 1995.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Martha Lynde Cooper Barker.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Carole Jo and James D. Riley, Hannibal, Mo.; Janis Sue and Slayden A. Yarbrough, Shawnee; grandson, Scott Yarbrough, Cincinnati, Ohio; and many other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Bucklin, Mo., with the Rev. Don Kabel, Dr. Slayden Yarbrough, and the Rev. Kenneth Kelley officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of Rhodes Funeral Home, Brookfield, Mo.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Clifford Young

Okemah resident Clifford Young died Saturday in Seminole. He was 78.

Young was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Oklahoma. He had lived in Okfuskee County since November 1987.

Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at Castle Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, with Bro. Ray Sherman officiating.

Opal Carter

Opal Carter, 81, Shawnee, died Saturday.

She was born Nov. 30, 1917, in Little Axe to Willard and "Fannie" (Johnson) Washburn. She graduated from Knowles School. She married Fred Martin and, after his death in 1962, married Alton Carter in 1974. She had lived in Pink, Little Axe, Oklahoma City, Indianola, and, for the past seven years, in Shawnee. She had worked at St. Anthony Hospital and at the Oklahoma Golf and Country Club.

She also was preceded in death by her second husband in 1989; her parents; daughter Barbara June Honn; ten sisters; and six brothers.

She is survived by son-in-law Lewis A. Honn, Shawnee; grandson Carl Fred Chastain, Waxahachie, Texas; four great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with the Rev. James Walters officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Everett C. Myers

Everett C. Myers died Sunday in Shawnee. He was 88.

Myers was born on Aug. 5, 1911, in Bakers Springs, Ark., to Joel Lee and Lee Anna (Gordon) Myers. He attended school in Shiloh, Ark., and Bakers Springs, Ark. He married Lorene Owens on Nov. 7, 1936, in Macomb.

Myers had previously lived in Grand Prairie, Texas, where he worked as a cemeterycaretaker until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Myers was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena Myers; a son, Curtis D. Myers in 1976; his parents Joel and Lee Anna Myers; four brothers, Covert, Nolon, British and Vernon; and seven sisters, Estoria, Nora, Kellie, Delta, Ferrie, Gertrude and Alva Rachel.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Thearl and Bud Stanley, Tecumseh; three sisters-in-law, Henrietta Hogan, Shawnee; Ima Owens, Earlsboro; Sue Owens, Grand Prairie, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Bob Anderson officiating.

Burial will be held at Southland Cemetery, Grand Prairie, Texas at 3:00 p.m.

Walker Hubert Enlow

Walker Hubert Enlow died Sunday in a local hospital. He was 96.

Enlow was born on April 26, 1903, near Glen Rose, Texas, the son of Albe and Florence (Davis) Enlow. He married Georgia Van Ness on March 3, 1931, in Chandler. Enlow worked for Rock Island Railroad in Dalhart, Texas, and completed his apprenticeship as a coach carpenter for the Rio Grande in Denver, Colo., and Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Neb.

He also worked at Tinker Air Force Base. He retired in 1970. Enlow was a member of the International Poetry Hall of Fame, the International Society of Poets, Railroad Union, Machinist's Union of Tinker Air Force Base and Bertrand Baptist Church.

Enlow was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Enlow; parents, Albe and Florence Enlow; four brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by a brother, Robert Enlow, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Gladys Wood, Boise City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthew officiating.

Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.
