Vela Cora Guffey Lowry

Shawnee resident Vela Cora Guffey Lowry died Thursday at a local hospital. She was 91.

She was born Dec. 25, 1908, in Arkansas to William Monroe and Sarah Frances (Young) Guffey.

She married Lawrence Lowry.

Mrs. Lowry was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She lived in California and Arkansas before moving to Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Jean and Howard Duff, Edgewater, Fla., and two grandchildren.

Graveside services took place 3:30 p.m. Monday at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Goins officiating under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Hazel Davis

Shawnee resident Hazel Davis died Sunday at a Tecumseh nursing home. She was 89.

She was born Sept. 7, 1905, in Prague to John Franklin Hopkins and Nellie (Blalock) Hopkins.

She married Arnold T. Davis in 1925 in Shawnee. They were married for 57 years.

She lived in Shawnee most of her life and was a graduate of Shawnee High School. She taught at Prague Public Schools and later was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone. After marriage, she was a homemaker and mother.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee and served as a longtime Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Arnold and Ann Davis, Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Wayne Zorger, Shawnee; three grandsons and their spouses, Trey Davis, Shawnee, Ron and Sherry Davis, Choctaw, and Richard and Mary Hill, Fort Worth, Texas; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Georgianna Mae Hill; and one granddaughter, Dana Lynn Davis.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Thomas Quinton

Thomas Quinton of Harrah died Thursday. He was 53.

He was born July 21, 1946, in Sulphur to James and Verna (Crawford) Quinton.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and James Moon, Antlers, Diane and Robert Harris, Harrah, Trista Winnette, Durant, Angie and Mike Marcum, Tecumseh, Terri Howell, McLoud, Shelly and Robert Quinalty, Seminole, and Crystal McGee, Midwest City; mother, Verna Brown, Durant; brothers, James Brown, Jacksonville, Fla., and Rusty Brown, Durant; sisters, Mary Ann Chambers, Durant, and Cynthia Peck, Rock Springs, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Services were 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Choctaw. Burial was in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Newalla under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Carol Ann Taylor

Carol Ann (Stafford) Taylor died Sunday in Okemah. She was 36.

She was born July 3, 1963, in Okemah to Wesley "Pete" Stafford and Naomi Ruth (Mann) Stafford.

She married Max Taylor April 19, 1986, in Castle, Okla.

She was a homemaker and an active member of Last Chance Baptist Church, and she taught Bible school every year.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Benny Wesley Stafford, and one sister-in-law, Linda Glenn.

Survivors include her parents, Wesley "Pete" and Naomi Ruth Stafford, Okemah; grandmother, Rosie Ellen Mann, Haskell; husband, Max Taylor, Okemah; five children, Elizabeth, Emily, Katie, Kenney and Benjamin Taylor, all of the home; brothers, Tommy Stafford, Morris, Okla., Johnny Stafford, Castle, Okla., and David Stafford, Castle, Okla.; sister, Mary Gewitsch, Castle, Okla.; and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, other relatives and a host of friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Last Chance Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Waller officiating under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

LaVeta Crist

LaVeta Crist, 94, Shawnee died Saturday in a local nursing home.

She was born March 28, 1905, in Chandler to William McClelland and LaVerta (Bunker) Cassidy. She moved to Shawnee as a child and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1923.

She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for 32 years and seven months and was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mrs. Crist lived in Shawnee most of her life.

She married William Thomas Henderson on Dec. 23, 1924, in Shawnee. He died in 1929.

On July 19, 1951, she married L.H. "Bill" Crist. He died June 1, 1967.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Survivors include her daughter, Eleanor Ruth Davis of Shawnee; grandchildren, Patricia and Mike McCormick of Shawnee; Nell and Randy Schoonover of Lone Grove; Jamie Lou Davis of Shawnee; great-grandchildren, Meghan McCormick of Shawnee; Sarah Schoonover of Lone Grove.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Rusty Williams, pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, officiating and under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Her casket will be open at the funeral home until 1:15 on Tuesday and will not be opened at the cemetery.

Frances Jean (Carr) Hearn

Frances Jean (Carr) Hearn, 58, died Friday in Oklahoma City.

Mrs. Hearn previously resided in Shawnee and Earlsboro.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee under the direction of Temple and Sons Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.

Hazel M. McGann

Hazel M. McGann died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 84.

She was born Nov. 29, 1915, in Berwin (now Gene Autry) to Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Brooks.

She married Robert H. McGann on May 29, 1965, in Irving, Texas. Mrs. McGann lived in Shawnee for more than 40 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee and its Oakwood Mission. She was also a member of Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge.

Mrs. McGann was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include three sons, Col. C. Henry Flick, Huntsville, Ala.; Chester W. Flick, Garland, Texas; C. Allen Flick, Garland, Texas; one daughter, Alice Dimovitz, Allentown, Pa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Maxwell officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Bob Jordan

Bob Jordan, Midwest City, died Sunday in Midwest City. He was 81.

Jordan was born on July 17, 1918, in Tecumseh, the son of Everett Miles and Ethel Florence (Row) Jordan.

He married Yvette Andree Lamarque on June 1, 1946, in Rabat, French Morocco.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and in Pearl Harbor, the South Pacific and North Africa.

Jordan retired from the FFA after 40 years of service.

He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the American Legion, the National Rifle Association, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the National Security Council.

He had resided in Midwest City since 1956.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ethel Jordan; a brother-in-law, Pierre Lamarque; and a sister-in-law, Countess Josette Buffon.

Survivors include his wife, Yvette Jordan, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Barbie Jordan, Oklahoma City; Philip and Patricia Jordan, Midwest City; a daughter, Jeanne-Marie Cathey, Lacey, Wash.; a sister, Bettye Wilborn, Oklahoma City; a sister-in-law, Gisele Lamarque, Nice, France; four grandsons, Joshua, Brent and Parker Jordan and Jonathan Cathey; three granddaughters, Christina and Sara Cathey and Ciel Jordan; and many close and special friends.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Tecumseh Cemetery, with Pastor Ken Merrihew of Calvary Chapel of Oklahoma City officiating.

Services are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Augusta Mae Jordan

Augusta Mae Jordan died Sunday in Stroud. She was 83.

Mrs. Jordan was born on Aug. 26, 1916, in Welty, the daughter of Harve and Alice (Craig) Teters.

She married Virgil Jordan in Davenport in 1934.

She worked as a nurse and was a member of the Deer Creek Baptist Church.

Mrs. Jordan was a longtime Stroud resident.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harve and Alice Teters; brothers; sisters; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

Survivors include her two sons, Otho Jordan, San Antonio, Texas; Larry Jordan, Stroud; two daughters, Dolores Lane, Visalia, Calif.; Judy Robnett, Cushing; a brother, Delbert Teters, Stroud; three sisters, Mary Simek and Ruth Jordan, both of Stroud; Aretta Womble, Lowry City, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Stroud with the Rev. Mark Simms officiating.

Burial will be in Stroud Cemetery.

Patti Joyce Williams

Patti Joyce Williams died Sunday in Cushing. She was 66.

Mrs. Williams was born on July 10, 1933, in Glencoe, the daughter of Arthur and Helen (Downey) Peterson.

She married Cecil Williams in Tulsa in 1950.

She worked as a bookkeeper.

She was a resident of Stroud for many years, and a past president of the Business and Professional Womens' Club in Stroud.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her son, Ray Williams; and her parents, Arthur and Helen Peterson.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Williams, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Velma Williams, Tulsa; Ronnie and Sally Williams, Roswell, N.M.; David Williams, Chandler; five grandchildren, Candace Williams, Scottie Williams, Joshua Williams, Skyla Williams and Lindsay Williams; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Stroud, with the Rev. Kathy Leithner officiating.

Burial will be in the Carney Cemetery.
