Clyde Monroe Fipps

Clyde Monroe Fipps died Monday in Prague. He was 92.

Fipps was born May 3, 1907, in Okemah to Samuel Monroe and Alice (Self) Fipps.

He married Edna Ruth McElhannon on June 1, 1926. She preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 1987.

He was a resident of Okfuskee County most of his life.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Verna Fipps, "Corky" and "Skeet" Fipps, and Geary and Donna Fipps, all of Paden; daughters, Frances Dugger, Tulsa, and "Cricket" and Lynn Short, of Paden; sister-in-law, Lorene Fipps, Prague; brother-in-law, the Rev. Marvin McElhannon, Okmulgee; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, five sisters and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paden Holiness Church, with Brother Paul Heard officiating. Burial will follow at the Paden Cemetery, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Carol Sue Bentley

Carol Sue Bentley, 58, Shawnee, died Sunday.

She married Tommy on June 25, 1961.

She graduated from Southern State University in Magnolia, Ark. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Dale.

Survivors include her husband, Tommy, of the home; daughters, Sandra Thompson, Flower Mound, Texas, and Johanna Crouse, Shawnee; parents, David and Clyta Gore, Heavener; sisters, Judy Blaylock, Broken Arrow, and Peggy Harbuck, Poteau; brothers, Jim and Bobby, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Paul, of Heavener; grandchildren, Garret and Samantha; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Heavener Church of Christ. Burial will be at Memorial Park in Heavener, under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.

Carl D. Nipper

Rural Shawnee resident Carl D. Nipper died Sunday at his residence. He was 66.

Nipper was born Nov. 25, 1932, in Prague to Lawrence and Annie (Martin) Nipper.

He married Betty Duggan on Oct. 6, 1957, in Shawnee.

He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and served two years in the U.S. Army. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 36 years, raised cattle and farmed.

He was a member of the East Main Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and elder. He continued to serve as an elder after the merger with the Central Church of Christ.

He served on the Earlsboro School Board for 19 years and lived in the Shawnee area all his life.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Brian and Dena Nipper, Earlsboro, and Greg Nipper, Dallas, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Mark Dame, Choctaw, and Michele and Tracy Fisher, Shawnee; brothers and sister-in-law, James and JoAnn Nipper, Norman, and Doyle Nipper, Norman; mother-in-law, Maggie Duggan, Shawnee; brother- and sister-in-law, Wilma and J.M. Hixson, Shawnee; grandchildren, Ashley and Jessica Dame and Chris and Tanner Nipper; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law and father-in-law.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central Church of Christ, with Don Sullivan and Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Patsy Ann Minor

Tecumseh resident Patsy Ann Minor died Saturday in Shawnee. She was 60.

Mrs. Minor was born on Aug. 3, 1938, in Geary to Earl Lee and Thelma Watts.

She married Manuel Lee Minor in Oklahoma City on Jan. 3, 1958.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Wesley Little and Teresa and Bobby Anderson, all of Guthrie; sons, Manuel Minor Jr., of the home, Johnnie J. Minor, Tecumseh, and Larry W. Minor, Frederick; stepdaughter, Rosa Lee Brock, Oklahoma City; brothers, Donny Watts, Jimmy Watts and Bobby Watts; sisters, Debbie Platt, Betty Watts, Mary Watts, Ruth Bearden and Sharon Youngblood; grandchildren, Kimberly and Sara Little, Bobby J. and Nicholas Anderson, Barbara Ruse and Rebecca Byson; and great-grandchildren Tony, Kaitilyn, Little Barbara & Nicole.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Edgar, Earl and Billy.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home, with the Rev. Will Bentley officiating.

Melba L. Norton

Melba Lorene Norton, 77, Shawnee, died Saturday in Shawnee.

Mrs. Norton was born in 1921 in Oil Center to Hamp and Vanie Tucker Northam.

She married Glen Norton on Dec. 4, 1943, in Ada. He preceded her in death in 1976.

She was raised in the Oil Center area and moved to Shawnee in 1950. She was a Methodist and a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Richard Norton, Shawnee; brother, Roy Soward, Evansville, Ind.; grandddaughter, Rabecka Norton, Shawnee; and one great-great-grandchild Dymon S. Norton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lorraine Louise Coble Combs

Shawnee resident Lorraine Louise Coble Combs died Tuesday at a local hospital. She was 78.

Mrs. Combs was born March 15, 1922, in Bartlesville, Okla., to James L. and Cora Mae (Burrows) Coble.

She attended schools in Nowata and graduated from Seminole High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma and received her registered nurse degree in 1944.

On March 10, 1944, she married Dr. Leon D. Combs at Crown Heights Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.

She was active in the Medical Auxiliary and served as president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Oklahoma State Medical Association in 1977. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she was a past president of the UMW and her church circle. She was a member of the committee that rebuilt St. Paul's Church after the Oct. 5, 1970, tornado.

She also was a member of the Alpha Mothers Club, the Junior Service League and Shakespeare Club and volunteered for Mabee-Gerrer Museum and for Mission Hill Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Leon D. Combs, Shawnee; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Janet Combs, Shawnee, Gary and Sharon Combs, Topeka, Kan., and Craig Combs, Oklahoma City; sister and brother-in-law, Case and Maxine Petersen, Little Rock, Ark.; brother and sister-in-law, James and Ann Coble, Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Bruce.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Clewell officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Mission Hill Hospital or St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Shawnee.

William Allen

Seminole resident William "Bill" Allen died Tuesday in a Seminole nursing home. He was 93.

Allen was born July 3, 1906, in Missouri, to Beaulah Allen.

He grew up in Weleetka, Okla., and moved to Seminole in 1946 from Overton, Texas.

He married Ruth Dean on Dec. 23, 1930, in Washon, Texas.

Allen worked for Magnolia Bulk Plant Gas.

He was a member of the Church of Christ since 1946, and was a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Allen in 1988; and his mother, Beaulah Allen.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Willetta and Bill Sparks, Fort Gibson, Okla.,; two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, James D. and Dorothy C. Pemberton, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Charles F. Pemberton, Seminole; niece, Anne Payton, Carson City, Nev.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Chris Stinnett officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Larry Koster

McLoud resident Larry Koster died Wednesday at home. He was 53.

Koster was born Nov. 19, 1946, in McLoud to Harry A. and Christine (Baldwin) Koster. He graduated from McLoud High School and attended the Freewill Baptist Church south of McLoud.

Survivors include his mother, Christine Koster of the home; brother, Neal Koster, McLoud; sister, Connie Fowble, Bethel; two sons, Michael Koster, Dale, and Chad Koster, of the home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry A. Koster, in 1974.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dewayne Thomas officiating.

Margaret Newell

Margaret Newell of Shawnee died Monday at her home. She was 83.

She was born April 15, 1917, in Tecumseh. She was the daughter of E.M. and Mary Jane Henderson Newell.

She was the Pottawatomie County treasurer for 31 years, from 1952-1983, retiring in 1983. Newell was a member of the Wunagisa chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, P.E.O., Altrusa of Shawnee, BPW and United Presbyterian Church.

She was reared in Tecumseh and lived in Shawnee since 1937.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorothy Newell Lynn.

Survivors include nephew and niece, Jim and Jane Lynn, Shawnee; two great-nephews, Greg Lynn and his wife, Katherine Burton-Lynn, Springfield, Va.; their children, Nicholas and Brianna Lynn, Randy Lynn and his wife, Kelly Lynn, Tulsa; their children, Jennifer, Margaret, Laura and Jake Lynn; and several cousins.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. today at Tecumseh Cemetery with Dwayne Dennis, the minister of the Church of Christ, 10th and Bell, officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Cinderella Timbers Room following the graveside service. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Horsechief Carson

Former Shawnee resident Mary Horsechief Carson died Sunday in Pawnee. She was 72.

Mrs. Carson was born May 2, 1928, in Pawnee, the daughter of John and Faye (Box) Horsechief.

She married Frank Carson on Nov. 9, 1946, in Winfield, Kan. He preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1966.

She lived in Red Rock until 1953, when she moved to Shawnee. She also lived in Denver, Colo., for many years until she moved back to Pawnee in 1978.

Mrs. Carson was a member of the Baptist faith.

She retired from Western Electric in Denver in 1978.

She was preceded in death by her son, Francis Randall Carson in 1991; and her parents, John and Faye Horsechief.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Faye and Carter Camp, Ponca City, Della Jeannine and Hoovy Perez, Tulsa, and Frankie Colette Carson, Pawnee; two sons and a daughter-in-law, George Nathaniel Carson, Tulsa, and Joseph James and Judith Carson, Oklahoma City; two brothers, Noah Horsechief, Anadarko, and Jim Atkins, Stillwater; two sisters, Donna Atkins and Gale Atkins, both of Red Rock; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Pawnee Tribal Roundhouse in Pawnee with the Rev. Jack Sunagoowis and the Rev. Duane Pratt officiating.

Burial will be in the North Indian Cemetery under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home of Pawnee.
