Lucy Mae Harris

Lifelong Earlsboro resident Lucy Mae Harris, 67, died Saturday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born April 21, 1934, in Earlsboro, the daughter of Arthur L. Harris. She was a homemaker.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her three sons and two daughters-in-law, Maurice and Audrey Harris of Shawnee, Rodney and Glenda Harris of Spencer and Clarence Benard Sr. of Earlsboro; Four daughters and two sons-in-law, Irma and Don Cheatham of Denver, Colo.; Charlene Berry of Shawnee; Darlene Winrow of Earlsboro, and Veronica and Clarence Benard of Earlsboro; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, the Rev. Roger and Elmira Harris of Spencer; Edward and Cardella Harris of Earlsboro, and Arthur L. Harris Jr. of Spencer; two sisters, Anna Rene Yarbrough of San Diego, Calif., and Ida Wiseman of Holly Springs, Miss.; 26 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ware's Chapel CME Church. The Rev. Barbara Patterson will officiate. Burial will be at Earlsboro Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

John Brixey Kalka

John Brixey "J.B." Kalka died Tuesday at his Chandler home. He was 68.

Brixey, the son of John L. and Mary (Brixey) Kalka, was born Nov. 7, 1932, in Chandler.

On Dec. 13, 1959, he and Carol Stebbens were married in Oklahoma City. Kalka served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and then worked for the Oklahoma National Guard for more than 35 years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Agra.

Kalka was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.

Survivors include his wife, of Chandler; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen and Edmond Schooley of Chandler, and Kathy Kalka of Agra; a brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Kay Kalka of Agra; two grandchildren, Johnna and McKenzie Schooley of Chandler, and many other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler. The Rev. Marshall Howard will officiate. Burial will follow at Osage Cemetery in Agra.

Betty Jean Caton

Betty Jean (McDaniel) Caton died Tuesday in Johnson City, Tenn. She was 72.

Mrs. Caton was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Okmulgee to Mr. and Mrs. Johnny McDaniel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Survivors include her two sons, Allen Ray Caton, Chandler, and Gregory Charles Caton, Oklahoma City; two daughters, Connie Lynn Montgomery, Bedford, Texas; Cheryl Dee Alman, Elizabethan, Tenn.; three brothers, Bill, Paul and Douglas McDaniel; a sister, Johnny Sue White; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Konawa City Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home.

Letha K. Gilley

Letha K. Gilley, Tecumseh, died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was 88.

Mrs. Gilley was born on July 22, 1911, in Boles, Ark., to L.K. and Minnie (Goodner) Frost.

She married E.R. Gilley on April 7, 1934, in Fort Smith, Ark.

She owned and operated Gilley's Beauty Shop and was a Shawnee resident since 1946.

Mrs. Gilley was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.R. Gilley on Feb. 5, 1985; her parents, L.K. and Minnie Frost; a son, Rex Gilley; a brother, Cecil Frost; and a granddaughter, Brooke Gilley.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul and Margaret Gilley, Eufala; Glenn Gilley, Oklahoma City; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Jim Bowers, Shawnee; three sisters, Opal Vasquez, Hayward, Calif.; Fern Millspaugh, Pleasanton, Calif.; Paula Sanchez, Oakley, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Research Society in Oklahoma City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at Resthaven Memorial Park, with Bro. John Patterson officiating.

Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee.

Beulah Goodson

Shawnee resident Beulah Goodson died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was 94.

Mrs. Goodson was born on Sept. 17, 1905, in Cleburn, Texas, the daughter of John Albert and LuTisha Coats.

She married O'Dell Goodson.

She worked for F.W. Woolworth during World War II and was the first female manager of a Woolworth store.

Mrs. Goodson was a member of Bunnen Professional Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O'Dell Goodson; and her parents, John and LuTisha Coats.

Survivors include her sister, Trudie Lower, Shawnee; nine nieces, Sherilyn Hardesty; Colleen Coats; Jackie Harris; Betty Jo Corbell; Mary Lou Stephens; Margaret Reppond; Virginia Myers; Shirley Small; Lorrain Sahnestock; three nephews, Gary Lower; Bill Myers; Raymond Myers; numerous "grandchildren," including Tracey Turley, Bryan Burrough, Regan Moad and a number of friends.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Max Alexander officiating.

Services are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Wilma M. Smith

Wilma M. Smith, 66, Shawnee, died Monday in a local hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born on April 27, 1933, in Sparks, the daughter of Marion and Allie A. (Morgan) Osburn.

She was a graduate of Meeker High School.

She married Hartsell V. Smith on April 18, 1980, in Dale.

Mrs. Smith worked as a manager at Dollar General Store before retiring after 20 years of service.

She was a member of the Northridge Church of Christ and supported Operation Christmas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hartsell Smith; her parents, Marion and Allie Osburn; and two brothers, Omer Osburn; Charles Osburn.

Survivors include a brother, Samuel L. Osburn, Arlington, Wash.; a niece and her husband, Tajuana and Tom Brooks, Oklahoma City; a great-nephew and great-niece, Michael and Kathryn Brooks, both of Oklahoma City; a sister-in-law, Robbie Rowell, Shawnee; and two nephews, Tom and Harold Rowell, both of Shawnee.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Northridge Church of Christ, under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel of Shawnee.

Frances V. Tyler

Frances V. Tyler, Austin, Texas, died Monday in Austin, Texas. She was 95.

Mrs. Tyler was born on Dec. 28, 1903, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of Frank Lee and Ruth (Thomas) Van Alstine.

She attended St. Louis University.

She married Claude Tyler on Sept. 11, 1927, in Shawnee.

Mrs. Tyler worked as a legal secretary for the law firms of Winterringer and Winterringer, and Goode and Goode. She also worked in the county attorney's office.

She was a member of the Shawnee Business and Professional Women.

She served as secretary and vice president of the Pottawatomie County Legal Secretary's Association, and was a representative for the National Association of Legal Secretaries.

Mrs. Tyler was named Legal Secretary of the Year by the Pottawatomie County Legal Secretary's Association.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its evening group, Circle 6.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Tyler on June 20, 1940; her parents, Frank and Ruth Van Alstine; and a son, Dr. John M. Tyler.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Ann Tyler, Port Washington, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Melanie Pentecost, Sarasota, Fla.; Bret Tyler, Paris, Texas; Kathleen Tyler, Washington; Thorp and Kay Tyler, Chestnut Hill, Mass.; a daughter-in-law, Diane Tyler Smith, Austin, Texas; and special friend Barbara Scheid, Port Washington, N.Y.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today, at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Max Shumake officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

William Daniel Lowe

William "Bill" Daniel Lowe, Grosse Point Farms, Mich., died Sunday in Grosse Point Farms, Mich. He was 49.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, at First Baptist Church in Shawnee with Dr. Paul Calmes officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Walter Kaskuske Jr.

Kodak, Tenn., resident Walter "Chief" Kaskuske Jr. died Tuesday at Alvin York Veteran's Hospital. He was 70.

Kaskuske was retired from the Air Force and was the owner of Chief's Appliance Repair. He was a member of the Kickapoo Nation of Oklahoma and East Tennessee Indian League. He also was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and Thorn Grove Oddfellow Lodge No. 342.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby (Chesney) Kaskuske; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Danny Bridges, Amelia Island, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Deborah Thomas, Knoxville, Tenn.; Gary and Becky Thomas, Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Mark, Karen, Sharon, Jamie, Earl, Joshua and Rusty Thomas; Mindy and Tara Bridges; great-grandchild, Dylan Thomas; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Lynn Nickell, Bradenton, Fla.; sisters, Vivian McElvaney and Almyra Johnson, both of Shawnee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Clara Kaskuske, Shawnee; Leon and Mary Kaskuske, Harrah; Truman Kaskuske, Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Myra Kaskuske.

Family members will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2235 Midway Road, Knoxville, Tenn. Services will be 8 p.m. today with the Rev. Jim Clayton, the Rev. David Houser and the Rev. Ronnie White officiating.

Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Thorn Grove Cemetery under the direction of McCarty's Evergreen Chapel with military honors provided by the U.S. Army.

Memorials may be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Children's Church.

Ruby M. Cumbie

Harrah resident Ruby M. Cumbie died Monday at Midwest Regional Hospital. She was 88.

Mrs. Cumbie was born in 1911 in Whittington, Ark., to James and Lula Caldwell. She was a homemaker and was active in the Harrah Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of Harrah First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Mary Cumbie, Harrah; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Don Wiggins, Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Charles Caldwell, Norman; grandson, Jon Wiggins and his wife, Karen, Phoenix, Ariz.; and niece, DelRae Stump, Breckenridge, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie; her parents, brother, Elmer Caldwell and sister, Nell Herring.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel, Harrah. Burial will be at Memory Lane Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Harrah Senior Citizen Center's Ruby Cumbie Memorial.
