David Henry McKinney
Seminole resident David Henry McKinney, 77, died Wednesday at a Shawnee hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Dora McKinney, of the home and son, David E. McKinney of Kingston; a sister, Bobbie Jones; two stepsons, Bart and Fred Walker; a stepdaughter, Rae; three granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Strothers Chapel with the Rev. James Sills officiating.

Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Juanita LaFawn Skaggs
Shawnee resident Juanita LaFawn Skaggs, 70, died Tuesday in Shawnee.

Survivors include her husband, Garvin Skaggs of the home; two sons, Jimmy Lee Skaggs of Peoria, Ariz. and Darrin Doyle Skaggs of Shawnee; a daughter, Jacqueline "Jacque" Skaggs of the home; sister, Wanda Fay Duncan of Falls City, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Criswell Chapel of Ada. Burial will follow at New Bethel Cemetery of Byng.

Jerry Don Deshields
Shawnee resident Jerry Don Deshields, 63, died Wednesday at a local hospital.

He was born Jan. 3, 1940, in Konawa to Roy and Clemmie (Harrison) Deshields.

He married Mary Jo (Buckmaster) Knapp on Aug. 4, 1962, in Shawnee.

Deshields was self-employed doing agricultural work and mowing service. He also worked as a mechanic. He was a member of the Baptist faith and was known to his friends as "Coffee Don."

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Ray and Mary Buckmaster; a brother, Marvin Deshields; two sisters, Fay McCoy and Roberta Cellars; three sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Deshields; a son and daughter-in-law, Frankie and Tina Knapp of Tecumseh; a daughter and son-in-law, Jamille and Harvey Babbit Jr. of Pink; a foster son, Jacob of Seminole; three grandchildren, Crystal and Regina Knapp and Jason Robin Buckmaster; two brothers and a sister-in-law, William Deshields of Eufaula and Jack and Karen Deshields of Oklahoma City; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Darrell Lockard of Tecumseh, Coetta and W.R. Branscum of Shawnee and Violet and Mike Goodnight of Seminole; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Louis and Margie Buckmaster and J.R. Buckmaster, all of Shawnee; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Jessie and Gary Schwank of Idaho and Audrey Murphy of Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Michael Stock officiating. Burial is under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Olenis Luker
Shawnee resident Olenis Luker, 87, died Thursday at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Johnny Stephens officiating. Richard Dickenson will assist.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Arpelar Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Luker was born Aug. 28, 191,5 to Arthur and Carrie (Firestone) Luker in Arpelar, Okla.

She attended school at Kingston and graduated from Haywood High School, west of McAlester.

She worked at a department store in Wewoka and was co-owner of Best Way Grocery Store in Ardmore. She worked for J.C. Penney in Ardmore and transferred to J.C. Penney in Shawnee, where she worked until she retired in 1978.

A member of First Church of the Nazarene since 1958, she taught a children's Sunday school class, sang in the church choir and Church Trio, was a member of the church board and worked in the church missionary program.

Luker was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Ewing Keltner of Shawnee; nephew, Keith Keltner and his wife, Susan, of Kansas City, Kan.; great-nephews, Lance and Brent Keltner; great-niece, Lana Keltner; and numerous other relatives.

Reverend Brother Justin James Jones
Reverend Brother Justin James Jones, O.S.B., monk of St. Gregory's Abbey, Shawnee, Oklahoma, died of heart failure at the Abbey on the morning of April 23, 2003, at the age of 60 years.

Reverend Brother Justin was born on November 25, 1942, in Maud, Oklahoma, of Harold Paul and Mary Warren Jones.

He attended Maud High School for two years, then St. Gregory's High School, Shawnee, Oklahoma, graduating in May of 1961.

In July of 1961 he entered the Postulancy of St. Gregory's Abbey, Shawnee, Oklahoma, and in December of 1961 he entered the Novitiate of St. Gregory's Abbey, making his monastic profession as a Monk of St. Gregory's Abbey on December 22, 1962. In August of 1975 he enrolled in the Permanent Diaconate Program of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and was ordained a Permanent Deacon on June 24, 1978. During his first years as a monk, Reverend Brother Justin served as assistant in St. Gregory's College Library and manager of the College Snack Bar. From 1973 until 1979, he served as a St. Gregory's College Residence Advisor. In 1979 he was appointed museum assistant in Art Restoration at the Mabee Gerrer Museum of Art, Shawnee, Oklahoma, becoming curator in 1982 until 1996.

In 1980 he was appointed Pastoral Assistant of Sacred Heart Parish, Konawa, Oklahoma, and St. Mary's Mission, Wanette, Oklahoma, and in 1988 he was appointed Administrator until 1997.

Reverend Brother Justin then returned to residency in Mark Braun Hall of St. Gregory's University, Shawnee, until 1998 when his health caused him to retire. In the past two years he suffered from severe emphysema becoming bed-ridden in the past month.

Reverend Brother Justin is survived by the monks of St. Gregory's Abbey, his sister, Nancy Ball of Bossier City, Louisiana, and nieces and nephews.

Vigils service will be Thursday, April 24, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Gregory's Abbey Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 25, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. in the Abbey Church with Abbot Martin Lugo, O.S.B. as the principal celebrant; burial will follow in the St. Gregory's Abbey Cemetery.

J.A. Hollingsworth
J.A. Hollingsworth, 77, Shawnee, died Tuesday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

He was born April 24, 1925, in Tulsa to Norman and Jodie (Roberts) Hollingsworth.

He married Dorothy Carlin on Feb. 25, 1943, in Tulsa.

He was in the U.S. Navy from April 23, 1943, until May 30, 1946, serving in the Pacific from 1943 to 1944.

He worked for Amoco Pipeline as an electrical technician for 38 years until his retirement in 1980. He moved to Shawnee in 1954.

He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and was an oblate of St. Gregory Abbey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane Althouse; and a brother, Roy B. Hollingsworth.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hollingsworth of Shawnee; six children, Dan Hollingsworth of Enid; Teresa Hollingsworth Lee of Broken Arrow; Philomena Hollingsworth of Tulsa; Tim Hollingsworth of Santa Monica, Calif.; Michael Hollingsworth of Guthrie; and Steve Hollingsworth of Cody, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Tuesday, April 29, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be at St. Gregory Abbey Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Buenos Earlene (Stroud) Webb
Buenos Earlene (Stroud) Webb, 83, Oklahoma City, died Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Dennis Ainesworth
Dennis "Dino" Ainesworth, 43, of Shawnee died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

He was born July 29, 1959, in Claremore to Bob and Mary Ainesworth.

He was plant foreman for Al-Ko Kober Industries.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Aleta Katherine Ainesworth, and brother, Marvin Ainesworth.

Survivors include his wife, Leslie Lynn Ainesworth, of the home; sons and a daughter-in-law, Dion Ainesworth of Dewey, Mike and Nancy Ainesworth of Shawnee, and Kane Ainesworth, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanne and Jerry Dobbs of Dewey, Melissa and Tom Smith of Dewey, and Lacretia Ainesworth of Holdenville; stepchildren, Scotti Lynn and Rory, of the home; grandchildren, Courtney Ainesworth of Shawnee, Jasmine Baker of Dewey, Anthony Baker of Dewey, Samilee Dobbs of Dewey and Hayden Smith of Dewey; seven brothers and four sisters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Ray Belford officiating.

Reba G. Ely
Reba G. Ely, 94, died Friday at her Shawnee home.

She was born July 31, 1908, in Maud to Marion Monroe and Rosetta (Baughman) Risenhoover. The family moved to Blair when she was 6 months old.

She graduated from Warren High School in Blair. She became a registered nurse, graduating from Border-McGregor School of Nursing. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University and did graduate work in public health at Peabody Teachers College.

She married Thomas William Ely on May 31, 1930. They moved to Shawnee in 1933.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee where she served as a teacher in several departments, with the last 35 years in the pre-school department.

She was a member of the American Nurses Association, Oklahoma State Nurses Association, and District 21 Nurses Association, serving as president of state and district associations.

She was a member of the Altrusa International and State Public Health Association.

During World War II, she taught home nursing classes for the American Red Cross in her home. In 1944, she served as the first school nurse for the Shawnee Public School System, then went to work for the State Health Department. She supervised eight counties and, after almost 30 years of service, she retired July 31, 1973. She did volunteer work for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband after 69 years of marriage, by her parents, six brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Loretta Miller of Shawnee; son, Joel Thomas Ely of Shawnee, son and daughter-in-law, Bill R. and June Ely of Oklahoma City; granddaughters and their spouses, Kathryn and Keith Gage of Edmond, Jennifer and Tod Bryant of Oklahoma City, Debbie and Randy Bryan of San Marcos, Texas, and Cynthia and Jay Wilson of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandson, Roger Ely of Oklahoma City; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Ely of Oklahoma City, and many other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Shawnee with the Rev. Paul Calmes officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Mildred Lippert
Mildred "Mel" Lippert, 82, of Shawnee died Thursday at a local nursing home.

She was born June 14, 1919, in McAlester.

Lippert graduated from Shawnee High School. She was a telephone operator for Pacific Bell in California, where she was a member of the Pioneers Foundation.

She returned to Shawnee in 1979.

She is survived by two cousins, John M. Adams and Donald G. Adams, both of Riverside, Calif.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Max Shumake officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Freda Jean Davis
Freda Jean "Jeanie" Davis, 56, of Seminole died Wednesday at Carl Albert Indian Health Center in Ada.

Further information is pending and will be announced by Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Michael James Emery
Midwest City resident Michael James Emery died Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include his grandmother, Erma J. Emery; mother Patricia A. Emery; and brothers Matthew J. Johns, Gerald D. Johns and Winston P. Johns.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Earl M. Temple Memorial Chapel under the direction of Temple and Sons Funeral Directors Inc. of Oklahoma Vity.

Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka.

Marion Kay McDaniel
Marion Kay McDaniel, 51, of Wewoka died Thursday at her home.

Survivors include her companion, Philip Ray Stewart, of the home; two sons, Philip Ray Stewart Jr. and Scott Stewart, both of the home; two daughters, Tracy (McDaniel) Creger and Shelly (McDaniel) Robinson, both of Oklahoma City; six sisters, Carolyn Houck and Janis Villarma, both of Earlsboro; Joyce Ross, Barbara Orr and Joan Morris, all of Seminole; and Pat Carter of Konawa; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Seminole. Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jarret Wayne Gibbons
Jarret Wayne Gibbons, infant son of Jimmy and Selena (Schilling) Gibbons of Shawnee, died Thursday in Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Jack and Mildred Gibbons, Bill Megehee and Mildred and Cleve Short.

Survivors include his grandparents, Jack Gibbons Jr. of Shawnee, Debbie Manuel of Stonewall and Billy and Debra Schilling of Huffman, Texas; and great-grandparents, June Powell of Tecumseh and Curtis and Margie Schilling of Huffman, Texas.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Hurst officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
