James Patterson Parks
Longtime area business and civic leader James Patterson Parks, 82, of Prague died Sunday.

He was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Dustin to Lonnie Parks and Mayme (Patterson) Parks. He graduated from Dustin High School in 1938.

He attended the University of Oklahoma where he held several offices in the Sigma Chi fraternity, including treasurer and vice president, and was named "Big Man on Campus." He and his debate partner, Joe Sterling, were nationally recognized debaters and placed second in the nation in 1942. Parks also was a member of the Delta Sigma Rho and Delta Sigma Phi honorary fraternities.

After graduating from OU, Parks was commissioned into the United States Navy and spent four years overseas until the end of World War II. Following his separation from active duty, he moved to Okemah and joined his uncle, W.R. Parks, in founding Parks Hardware and Parks Funeral Home. In 1974, he acquired Okemah Lumber Company. He was a partner in the acquisition of Parks Brothers Hardware and Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague and the subsequent merger with Curry Funeral Homes. He held Oklahoma Funeral Directors License No. 604. He had remained active in the businesses until recently, when his health forced his retirement.

In Okemah, Parks was active in many groups. He served two terms as president of the Chamber of Commerce, was past president of the Kiwanis Club and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

On Nov. 5, 1950, he married Mary Jane (Selby) Reilly in Okemah. She died on Feb. 1, 1988. He married Margaret (Kezer) Bannister on June 15, 2001, in Prague, and they moved to Prague shortly after.

Parks also was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter and one son-in-law.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Margaret Parks, of the home; a daughter, Mary Margaret Greene of Allen, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Connie Reilly and Joe and Shari Parks, all of Okemah, and Jim and Janet Parks of Prague; a stepdaughter and her husband, Jenny and Earl Cody of Edmond; stepsons, the Rev. David Rose and wife Anna Faye of Oklahoma City, and Morri Rose of Midwest City; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandson.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague. Viewing and visitation will continue Wednesday morning at Parks Funeral Home in Okemah.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Okemah with the Rev. Jerry Sneary officiating and the Rev. Bob Younts assisting. Burial will follow in Prague Cemetery with the Rev. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B., officiating. The family will receive friends in the community room of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague immediately following the burial.

Myrtle Henderson
Myrtle Tyre (Decker) Henderson, 92, of Wichita, Kan., and formerly of Chandler died Monday in Douglas, Kan.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Geneva and Jimmy Wallis of Mulvane, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Aileen Henderson of Chandler; grandchildren, Mark Henderson of Elk City, Lee Ann Weingarten of Louisville, Ky., Robert Wallis of Derby, Kan., Marilyn Henderson of Wichita, Kan., and Alan Wallis of Haysville, Kan.; nine great-grandchidlren; other relatives and many friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler. Burial will follow at the Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler.

Memorials may be made to the Lincoln County Historical Society at 719 Manvel, Chandler, OK 74834.

John C. Rice
John C. Rice, 92, of Shawnee died Sunday at his home.

He was born March 27, 1910, in Buffalo Springs, Texas, to Sylvester and Martha Rice. He attended school in Byers, Texas, and moved to Devol, Okla., when he was 16.

On June 25, 1931, he married Ruby F. Ross of Devol. They moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and lived in several Texas and Oklahoma towns before moving to Pottawatomie County in 1945.

Rice retired from Service Pipeline on Oct. 1, 1968.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruby Rice of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Martha Louise and Ray Hollis of Shawnee and Anita Epple of Shawnee; five grandchildren, Martha Crouch Andrews of Shawnee, Richard Lee Epple of Jackson, Miss., Gary Lewis Epple of Tucson, Ariz., Billy Don Tate of Shawnee and Cynthia Louise Ackles of Rayborn Gap, Ga.; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Germany of Richardson, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God in Tecumseh with the Rev. Chad Brodrick and the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Margrete Peltier
Margrete Peltier, 87, of Shawnee died Sunday in a local nursing home.

She was born July 3, 1915, in Doxie to James and Clara Belle Sample. She was a homemaker. She lived in Oregon for many years after living in Shawnee for 35 years.

Peltier was preceded in death by her husband, a son, three sisters and one brother.

Surviving relatives include a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Celeste Enochs of Shawnee; a daughter, Pamela Finnell of Shawnee; a granddaughter, Danielle Petty of Shawnee; two stepgrandchildren, Brandon and Whitnie Sullivan of Shawnee; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Stella Mae Newsom
Stella Mae Newsom, 92, of Shawnee died Sunday at a local nursing home.

She was born Dec. 12, 1910, to Clarence and Minnie Tabb. She attended schools in the Shawnee area. She was a lifelong resident of the Shawnee and Oklahoma City area and lived in Shawnee for the last 40 years.

She married William T. Newsom on June 6, 1932.

She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Billy J. and Margaret Newsom of Shawnee; sisters, Patsy Wilson of Shawnee and Dorothy Kosieracki of Shawnee; grandchildren, Cathy and Steve Kennedy of Shawnee, Connie and Howard Nichols of Tecumseh, Ricky Newsom of Bethel, and Tina and Ronnie Sims of Shawnee; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Jimmy Harness officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Troy Cleo Quinn
Stroud resident Troy Cleo Quinn, 81, died Friday in Stroud.

He was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Lincoln County, the son of Arley L. and Esther (Mason) Quinn. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.

He served in the Army Air Corps and was the owner and operator of Quinn's Service Station. He married Stella Marie Searcy on Sept. 19, 1942.

His parents, three brothers, three sisters and one grandson preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Marie Quinn, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles C. and Linda Quinn, Stroud; Vernon L. and Shirley Quinn, Stroud; David D. and Janice Quinn, Stroud; two brothers, Cletis Quinn, Prague; Coy Quinn, Indianapolis, Ind.; sisters, Liness Rich, Depew; Selma Anderson, Milfay; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Paul Heard officiating. Burial was at Kellerby Cemetery.

Loisteen (Scott) Prince
Loisteen (Scott) Prince, 86, of Luther died Saturday in Luther.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Helen Prince of Fort Cobb, Donald and Wilma Prince of Luther, Eddie and Denna Prince of Luther; daughters and sons-in-law, Zella Mae Phipps of Oklahoma City, Maxine and Edgar Holman of Luther, Katherine and Jerry Beavers of Claremore; brothers, Melvin Scott of Meeker, Raymond Scott of Choctaw, Harold Scott of Oklahoma City; sisters, Leona Brown of Beaumont, Calif., Vernell Wooten of Macon, Mo., Willeen Peek of Belton, Mo.; 23 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service of Harrah.

Chloe Deamma Carter
Stroud resident Chloe Deamma Carter, 67, died Saturday.

Surviving relatives include a son, Bob Smith of Stroud; four daughters, Beverly Hall of Tulsa, Sandy Aich of Sapulpa, Wanda Rotert of Broken Arrow, Rhonda Rhodes of Tulsa; her mother, Lois Ellen Carter of Stroud; a brother, Fate Carter of Houston, Texas, and a sister, Ellen Crauthers of Stroud.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Stroud Christian Church with the Rev. Charles Terry officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Stroud. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.

Hershel Megehee
Hershel Megehee, 69, of Tecumseh died Monday in Shawnee.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Margerete Peltier
Margerete Peltier, 87, of Shawnee died Sunday. Arrangements are pending with Walker Funeral Service.

Parks W. Denton
Parks W. Denton, 85, of Shawnee died Monday at a local hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Phillip F. Froneberger
Chandler resident Phillip F. Froneberger, 75, died Saturday in Claremore.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Dianna Froneberger of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Froneberger and Sarah Wang of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Scott and Cindy Froneberger of Cordell; an aunt, Hallie King of Enid; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Chandler with the Rev. Bruce Newby officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Minco. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler.

Ruby Henshaw
Longtime Stroud resident Ruby Henshaw died Sunday in Newcastle at the age of 90.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin and Maxine Henshaw of Depew, Wayne and Wanda Henshaw of Newcastle, Harold and Debbie Henshaw of Sapulpa, Leon and Vivian Henshaw of Rogers, Ark.; daughter and son-in-law, Lella and Randy Lawrence of Newcastle; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Stroud with the Rev. Joe Molencupp officiating. Burial will follow at Davenport Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.

Delois Ann Williams
Delois "Dee" Ann Williams, 67, Shawnee, died Sunday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born April 19, 1935, in Shawnee, to Johnny and Myrtle (Nordman) Cullison.

She grew up in Henryetta and attended Henryetta Public Schools. She graduated from Seminole State College with an associate's degree in early childhood development.

She retired from Action Inc., where she had worked for 20 years. She worked as a Headstart teacher and training coordinator and later as a consultant and educator.

She was a member of the Bible Temple Church and the Friends of Children's Careers.

She lived in Shawnee for about 50 years.

Her parents, three husbands, son, David Lee Williams, granddaughter, Janice Marie Williams, and brothers James, Frank and Doye Cullison preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Robert Lehman, Shawnee, and Brenda and James Cummings, Irving, Texas; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Debbie Williams, Shawnee, Ronnie and Margaret Williams, Shawnee, Donnie and Tonia Williams, Shawnee, and Jimmy Williams, Lexington; daughter-in-law Norma Williams Holden, Billings; stepmother Lillian Nicks, Shawnee; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Carroll Cole, Los Angeles, Mary (Cassie) Roberts, Harrah, Reba Honeysuckle, Oklahoma City, Paula Carter, California; Linda Argomaniz, Arizona; Linda Grable, Kansas, Janice Bryan, Pennsylvania; and Karen Newman, Shawnee; brothers, Roy Dean Williams, California, Earl Williams, Los Angeles, Ed Williams, Los Angeles, and Johnny Cullison, Shawnee; and cousins, Madje Smith, Kenneth Pritchard and Maree Cheatham.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Guy Cagle officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Bible Temple Church of Shawnee.

Parks Worley Denton
Parks Worley Denton, 86, Shawnee, died Monday at a local hospital.

He was born to David Denton and Nancy Peoples Denton on May 13, 1916, in Denton's Valley, Alvarado, Va.

He worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation until his retirement in 1977.

Denton married Louise Woodie on June 14, 1941, in Elkton, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

After his service, he and his wife settled in Joppa, Md.

He was a member of Pecan Valley Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion.

Denton and his wife moved to Shawnee in 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Denton of the home; son, Johnny Denton, Emigrant, Mont.; one daughter, Esther Holman, Leavenworth, Kan.; brothers, Orville R. Denton, Baltimore, Jack A. Denton, Joppa, Md., and Joseph B. Denton, Bristol, Tenn., sisters, Mamie Lowe, Baltimore, Louise Bailey, Bristol, Tenn., and Marsha Ringley, also of Bristol, Tenn.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Leroy Rice officiating. Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
