JOSEPHINE BUZZARD
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Josephine Buzzard, long-time resident of Fairland, died early Tuesday after a short illness. She was 80. She was born September 30, 1921 to Beaver and Anna Dougherty at Moody, Okla. She married Dale Buzzard on December 4, 1948 at Jay. He preceded her in death. She was a housekeeper and was of the Assembly of God faith. She was a member of the Cherokee Indian tribe.
She is survived by a sister, Bea Bloom, of Tulsa; a grandson, Roberts Stapp, and a great-granddaughter, K-la Stapp, both of Oklahoma City.
A graveside service will be held at Round Spring Indian Cemetery, at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6, with Rev. Andy Krebs officiating. Service arrangements are provided by Adcock Funeral Home of Fairland.

OLLIE JEAN BUZZARD
COLCORD, Okla. - Ollie Buzzard, age 58, of Colcord, Okla., died of unknown causes in Tulsa, Okla. She was born in Delaware County, Okla. on September 18, 1942. Ollie was the daughter of William Buzzard and Sarah Colston. Both her parents preceded her in death. She was a resident of the Colcord area most of her life. She was a member of the Clouds Creek Baptist Church. Ollie has four brothers and five sisters. One brother, Yellowbird Buzzard, preceded her in death.
She is survived by three brothers, Billy Freeman and wife, Violet, of Colcord, Fallen Buzzard and wife, Wanda, of Kenwood, and Levi Colston and wife, Charlene, of Kenwood; five sisters, Lula Forman and husband, Turner, of Colcord, Lillie Kingfisher and husband, Mike, of Stillwell, Jackie Sapp and husband, Roma, of Kenwood, Luella Davidson and husband, Billy, of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Amy Proctor and husband, Stanley, of Kenwood, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, in the Tyio Baptist Church with Jess Williams, Arch Foreman and Jim Boyd officiating. The interment was in the Clouds Creek Cemetery. The services were under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Okla.

LEONA MAE BYOUS
DURANT, Okla. - Funeral services for Leona Mae Byous, 89 of Durant, Okla., will be held Friday, May 11, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Kansas, Okla. with burial to follow in the Kansas Cemetery. Rev. Sam Andrews will officiate. Services under the direction of Jones-Wilson-Cunningham Funeral Home in Locust Grove, Okla.
Leona was born June 9, 1911 in Trego County, Kan. and died May 7 in Durant, Okla. She was the daughter of Marion Franklin and Birdie (Hawker) Turner. She grew up and attended school in Merwin, Mo. Following her school years, she and C.C. Cook were married on August 6, 1926 in Butler, Mo. They moved to Tulsa, Okla. where they owned and operated Cook's Paint and Wallpaper Store. Mr. Cook preceded her in death in 1966. Sometime later she married Charles E. Byous. Leona was a former resident of Kansas, Okla., but had lived in Durant, Okla. since 1993. She served her family as a wife, mother and homemaker for many years and will be greatly missed by all that shared in her life.
She is survived by one son, Howard E. Cook, of Stockton, Calif.; one daughter, Margaret Sikes, of Durant, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great grandchildren, and numerous friends and loved ones. Her husband Charles F. Byous, a daughter, Morna L. Phelps, one sister ,Edna Anderson, and one brother, Paul Turner, preceded her in death. Memorials may be made in her honor to the heart fund or the Children's Medical Center.

LELA FAYE CAPSHAW
FAYETTE, Okla. - Lela Faye Capshaw, 75, of Fayetteville, Ark, died Wednesday at the home of a relative in Wyandotte, Okla. after a sudden illness. Mrs. Capshaw was born October 5, 1925 at Floyd County, Texas to Annie Lavada and William Pinkney Neff. As a young girl she grew up picking cotton in the fields of West Texas and worked various jobs. Finishing her working days as a seamstress at Levi-Strauss Co. in Fayetteville. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Washington County, Arkansas of nearly forty years. She married I.W. "Rocky" Capshaw at Afton, Texas in June of 1942, he survives of the home.
She is survived by three sons, Lanny Capshaw of Calhoun, Mo.; Gary Capshaw of Farmington, Ark.; Benny Capshaw of Wyandotte, Okla.; daughter, Sandra Capshaw of St. Petersburg Fla.; two sisters, Sarah Pauline Etherly of Prescott, Ariz.; Barbara Hauteen Woody of Lubbock, Tex.; two brothers, W.A. Neff of Apache Junction, Ariz.; Edwin Harold Neff of Floydada, Texas; thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. A sister Lillian Jewel Guffee and four brothers Thomas Ely, Buel, Lee Ell, and Shorty preceded her in death.
There was a private viewing for the family members Friday, February 2, at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Commerce, Okla. A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 3, at the Kingdom Hall at 2837 Old Wire Road, 72703.

VEVA J. CARPENTER
GROVE - Veva Jean Carpenter, 42, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at St. John's Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. Memorial services were held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, at New Song Church with Pastor Steve Dyer officiating.
Veva Jean Carpenter was born on June 14, 1958 to David and Norma Towne Townsend in Cheyenne, Wyo. She was a member of New Song Church in Grove.
She is survived by two daughters, Nicki Carpenter of Pawhuska, Okla., and Amanda Marie Carpenter of Grove; one son, Nicholas Carpenter of Grove; four brothers, David Townsend, Grove, Ricky Aldaco and Eddie Aldaco, both of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Michael Aldaco of Calif.; one sister, Shari Ward of Grove, and step parents Steve and Pat Aldaco of Ft. Worth, Texas.
Donations to the Carpenter children may be made through the funeral home. Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, OK 74344, 918-786-95172.

FLOSSIE B. CARROLL
JAY, Okla. - Flossie B. Carroll, 93, passed away October 24, 2001 at Monroe Manor. Flossie was born March 19, 1907 near Zena, Okla., to George and Martha Pitts. Flossie attended school at Zena and later married Robert Carroll in 1925. Flossie was a homemaker and was married for 73 years until Robert's death in 1998.
Flossie had six children, Robert Carroll, Jay, Melvin, Florida, Wayne, Washington St., Calif., and Shirley Russell, Siloam Springs. Deceased include two sons Jerry and Earl Carroll.
The family of Flossie will receive friends Friday evening, October 26, from 6-8 at Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay. Services will be 10 a.m. graveside at Zena Cemetery Saturday, October 27. Services are under direction of Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay.

VELMA LYNN (BUZZARD) CARTER
OLIVE, Okla. - Funeral services for Olive, Okla. resident Velma Carter, will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at the Oak Hill Church at Keystone Lake in Mannford, Okla. Rev. Harrell Jones, Sr. will officiate with special service music provided by Kathy Dodson and Sandra Clemens. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Mose Ridge Cemetery at Topsy, Okla. Serving as casket bearers are J.W. Dodson, Don Hogue, Gary Hillman, Harrell Jones, Jr., Darrell Jones, Bob Pendergrass, Sye Reed, Tony Moorhead, and Don Porter. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Michael's Funeral Home of Drumright, Okla.
Velma was born in Claremore, Okla. on April 10, 1952 to J. D. Buzzard and Drushane (Rogers) Buzzard. She passed from his life to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 16, at the age of 49 years. Velma grew up in the Jay, Okla. area and was a graduate of Jay High School. She attended college in Miami, Okla., where she received training as a LPN. She lived in Cleveland, Okla. for several years and had worked at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home until she retired due to her health, in 1997. She also worked at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Cushing, Okla. She married Roger Carter on July 28, 1984 in Mannford, Okla., and since then, they had made their home in Olive. Velma loved to go to garage sales and flea markets, sew, quilt, arts and crafts, make scrapbooks and do bead work. She was also a wonderful singer, organist, and pianist. She was a member of the Oak Hill Church at Lake Keystone where she and her husband were the music leaders. She is preceded in death by her father and one brother, Jim Buzzard.
Her remaining family includes her loving husband, Roger Carter, of Olive; two sons, and their wives, Brian Dale and Nicole Carter of Ecru, MS, and Layle and Gina Carter of Sand Springs, Okla.; two daughters and a son-in-law; Samantha Cheyenne Carter of Olive, and Courtney Brooke Wickliffe and Franklin Fields of Owasso, Okla.; three grandchildren, Cody, Emily, and Taylor Carter; her mother, Drushane Buzzard of Eucha, Okla.; three brothers, Jerry Buzzard, Gary Buzzard, both of Cleveland, Okla., and Steve Buzzard of Eucha, Okla.; two sisters, Sandra Carter of Disney, Okla., and Carol Freels of Eucha, Okla.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many loving friends.

LAVELLE W. "CHAD" CHADWELL
MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. - Lavelle W. "Chad" Chadwell, age 77, died Monday, September 10, 2001. Mr. Chadwell was a business owner.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 13, at Rice Funeral Service Chapel, Claremore.

ESTIN THOMAS CHANCE
SPAVINAW, Okla. - Estin Thomas Chance, 72, died Thursday, June 21, 2001 after an illness. Estin was born January 5, 1929 to Marion and Mattie (Harvey) Chance. Estin grew up in Locust Grove, Okla. where he also attended school. At the age of 17, he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged after seven years of service. Later, he was self-employed as an auto mechanic and auto body repairman. He then drove a city bus for the Tulsa Transit for 18 years until retirement in 1991 at the age of 62. He enjoyed rebuilding old cars and trucks, woodworking, gardening and fishing. Estin is preceded in death by his parents, an infant baby sister, and three brothers, Jack, Marion Jr., and Lloyd Chance.
Survivors include wife, Beverly Honicutt Chance, of the home; two sons, Randy and wife, Sharon, of Claremore, Okla., and Jeff of Grove; four daughters, Tracy and husband, Allen Cartwright, of Glenpool, Vicky Chance of Tulsa, Lisa and husband, Micky Morgan, of Catoosa, and Kim and husband, Don Hibbs, of Locust Grove, Okla.; eight step-children, Vicki and Wayne McClelland of Kellyville, Okla., Janice and David McPartland of Wappinger Falls, N.Y., Lisa and Steve Bullard of Broken Arrow, Okla., Kelly and Tina Miller, Valerie and Bo Jules of Tulsa, Okla., Scott and Della Honicutt of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Keith Honicutt of Tulsa; 15 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; 21 step grandchildren, and five step great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 25, at the Spavinaw United Methodist Church. Officiating was Rev. Carol Reich. Services were under direction of Turner Funeral Chapel Langley, Okla.

RALPH LEE CHENOWETH
MIAMI, Okla. - Ralph Lee Chenoweth, 68, of Miami, Okla., died Sunday, July 1, 2001 at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Chenoweth was born September 13, 1932 in Miami to Lee and Vera (Hammel) Chenoweth. He has lived in Miami since 1978, he had previously lived in Rota, Spain. His parents and a brother, Ray Allen Chenoweth, preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Miami High School class of 1950, received his associate degree from NEO in 1952, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Oklahoma A&M in 1954. Mr. Chenoweth retired from the Oklahoma State Department of Human Services in 1997. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami. Mr. Chenowith served in the Navy, retiring as a Lt. Cmd. in 1977. During his 23 years of service, he commanded a crew of Hurricane Hunters and flew reconnaissance during the Vietnam War. He completed the last 10 years of duty in Rota, Spain. He married Maria del Carmen Aguirre Lanzarote in 1978. She survives of the home.
Other survivors are: three daughters, Melissa Antonia Chenoweth, Christina Lee Chenoweth, and Dorrie Michele Chenoweth, of Merritt Island, Fla., and one sister, Irma Shepsko, of Newark, Del.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Miami. Father W. Gregg Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami, under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

WANDA BELL CHRISTY
COLCORD, Okla. - Wanda Bell Christy, 67-year-old resident of Colcord, died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born January 30, 1934 in Row, Okla., she was the daughter of Bruce Silcox and Leota Cochran Silcox. Mrs. Christy has been a resident of Colcord for most of her life. She was a retired secretary. She attended the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her mother, Leota Silcox, of Colcord; five brothers, Norman Silcox of Blackwell, Okla., Ralph Silcox of Mangum, Okla., Sherman Silcox of Watts, Okla., Burl Silcox of Roosevelt, Okla., and Roger Silcox of Colcord, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Wasson Memorial Chapel, with Brother Edward Billups officiating. Burial will follow in Row Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

EVELYN VALERIE CLARK
MIAMI, Okla. - Evelyn Valerie Clark, 87, of Miami, died Saturday, August 25, 2001 in a local nursing home. Mrs. Clark was born November 5, 1913 in Wymore, Neb., to James W. and Viola (Mapes) Jackson. She has lived in the Miami area most of her adult life. She married Burl Clark, he preceded her in death. Two brothers, John and Joe Jackson, and two sisters, Cora Tracy Scott and Martha Watson, also preceded her. Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.
Survivors are: one sister, Marie Jackson Shaw, of Wymore, Neb.; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Jackson, of Joplin, Mo.; five nieces, Nancy Shaw, Gail Rixstine, Sherry Allen, Betty Jo Marples, and Linda Ferrel; four nephews, Bill Tracey, Steven Shaw, Mike and Donnie Jackson, and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, in the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Elder Steve Hodges will officiate. Burial will be in the Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens east of Miami under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Pallbearers will be Ben Horn, Chris Barbee, Nathan Horn, Richard Dudley, Darren Dudley, and Dave Davis.

ROY FAY COATNEY, SR.
SOUTHWEST CITY, Mo. - Roy Fay Coatney, Sr., 68, of Southwest City, Mo., died on Sunday, May 27, 2001 at 4:35 a.m. at the Grand Lake Villa Nursing Center in Grove after an illness. Roy Coatney was born on January 15, 1933 at Berryville, Ark. to the late James David and Dessie Lee (Gregory) Coatney. He was a former resident of Southwest City, Mo. for 15 years before moving to Grove, where he lived for six months. He had formerly attended the First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Mo. His wife of 45 years, Edith Coatney, preceded him in death on February 14.
He is survived by three sons, Roy "Pete" Coatney, Jr. of Southwest City, Mike Coatney of Jay, Okla., and Jackie Coatney of Noel, Mo.; three daughters, Almeta Freeman of Noel, Mo., Reta Eames of Gravette, Ark., and Sue Leak of Jane, Mo.; one sister, Opal Alley of Republic, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mr. Coatney will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Southwest City Cemetery in Southwest City.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 30, at the Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Bobby Overton, Dee Freeman, John Moss, Bobby Cole, Troy Paul Alley and Mike Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Freeman and Shannon Freeman. Military rites conducted by Pineville-Jane American Legion Post 392.
