RAY D. AUSTIN
EUREKA, Kan. - Ray D. Austin, age 68, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002. Mr. Austin was retired from Boeing, he was an engineer. He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Austin; his mother, Juanita Leonard; and brothers, LeRoy Austin, Jr., and Otis Eversole, Jr..
Survivors include: three sons, Rikki Austin of Clearwater, Kan., Michael Austin of Claremore, Okla., and David Austin of Eureka, Kan.; a daughter, Sandy Collett of Wichita, Kan.; stepfather, William Leonard of Wichita; stepmother Dorothy Austin of Douglass, Kan.; two brothers, Anthony Eversole of Tulsa, Okla., and Larry Austin of Augusta, Kan.; five sisters, Tomi Payne of Wichita, Shirley Nelson of Andover, Kan., Joyce Henzel of Tulsa, Francis Zellers of Douglass, and Patricia Enser of Indian Rock Beach, Fla.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Friday, February 15, at 11 a.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka.
The services were under the direction of the Hillside Funeral Home 'East'.

MARVIN DEAN BABCOCK
COLCORD, Okla. - Marvin Dean Babcock died Saturday, April 19, 2002 at his home in Colcord, Okla. The son of Roy M. and Irene N. (Gustin) Babcock, he was born December 20, 1920 near West Mineral, Kan. He married Mary. C. Yanlz. They had two children, Richard of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ronald of Shoreline, Wash.
In 1984, he married Lois M. (Garrett) Van Vickle. He had four step-children, Doug Bynum, Clifford V., Alan B., and Don Van Vickle.
Marvin enjoyed music and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #226, the N.R.A., and Ducks Unlimited. He served his country as a radio maintenance Technician in the US Air Force in WWII.
Marvin and Lois moved to Colcord in 1999 from Parsons where they had lived many years.
There will be a memorial at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, in the Country Side Church near Colcord. The Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Okla., handled local arrangements.

CLIFFORD BRYAN 'CURLY' BAKER, JR.
BERNICE, Okla. - Clifford Bryan "Curly" Baker, Jr. of Bernice, died at 8:05 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2002 at Fairland Care Center in Fairland, Okla., after an illness. He was 79.
Mr. Baker was born July 24, 1922 at Adair, Okla., to Clifford and Mary (Rogers) Baker. He had lived in the Afton, Miami, and Bernice area most of his life. He was a 1941 graduate of Afton High School.
Mr. Baker owned and operated B&B Auto Supply in Miami and Eagle Auto Parts in Afton until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Southern Hills Baptist Church of Miami, Okla., and the Moose Lodge in Grove.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Baker, on January 30, 1978. He was also preceded in death by a brother, George Walker.
Survivors include: two sons, Russell Baker of Miami and Danny Baker of Bernice; one brother, Marion Lee Baker of Miami; one sister, Cola Beth Baker of Georgetown, Texas; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and a special friend, Barbara White, of Bernice.
Services will be Tuesday, January 8, at 2 p.m. at the Southern Hills Baptist Church of Miami. Rev. Dick Servati will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery of Afton. Pallbearers will be: Stan Dennis, Doug Nutting, Paul Williams, Joe Williams, John Estes, and Sherman Beehler.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami. Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.

ESMOND KEITH BAKER
WAGONER, Okla. - Esmond Keith Baker, a former Fairland resident now living in Wagoner, died at his home in Wagoner Monday evening, February 4, 2002 at 11:12 p.m. after an illness. He was 70.
Baker was born November 23, 1931 at Monkey Island to James and Blanche (Lett) Baker, and spent most of his life in this area until he moved to Wagoner in 1969. He was a self-employed contractor working for the Ralston Purina Company in Pryor until he retired in 1993. He was a veteran of the Air Force, and was in the Korean Conflict, serving as a flight engineer from 1951 to 1955. As a young man he was raised in the Lutheran church in Fairland but later attended the First Christian Church in Fairland.
He married Jacqueline Bowen on November 22, 1954 at Miami, and she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: a son, Dee Wayne Baker of Wagoner; two daughters, Pamela Carroll of Wagoner, and Teresa Farris of McAlester, Okla.; a brother, Jerry Baker of Stillwater, Okla.; six sisters, Erma Schroeder of Quapaw, Okla., Doris Johnson of Lakeview, Wash., Peggy Moore of Grove, Nancy Reynolds of Cleora, Okla., Loretta Ogden of Grove, and Donna Lawrence of Grove; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 7, at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Kirchhoff officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairland Cemetery in Fairland. Members of the Northeast Oklahoma Veterans Funeral Detail will conduct graveside military rites.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, February 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Good Shepherd Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

LOIS MILDRED BAKER
JAY, Okla. - Lois Mildred Baker of Jay died Friday, August 30, 2002 at her home after a long illness. She was 72.
Mrs. Baker was born March 7, 1930 to Homer and Myrtle (Shrum) Taylor at Mountain Home, Ark. She married Bob Baker on January 20, 1948 in Bentonville, Ark. She enjoyed cooking and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Two daughters preceded her in death, Jan Bilou and Sandra Kay Clark.
Survivors include: her husband, Bob Baker, of Eucha; three daughters, LaQuita Pruitt of Dallas, Texas, Peggy Stanley of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Jo Ann Ellis; five sisters: Doris Heck, Amanda Vandyke, Alma Hoffman, Donna Bunch, and Betty Smith; one brother, Curtis Taylor; 11 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, at the Coffelt Cemetery in Benton County. Rev. Warren Buzzard officiated. Services were under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

VERA NELL BALL
JAY, Okla. - Vera Nell Ball, age 76, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Monroe Manor in Jay.
Vera Ball was born on August 22, 1925 in Eucha, Okla., to William Riley and Lillie (Neal) Newman. She worked as a police dispatcher for the City of Jay. She had lived in this area since 1981, having moved from Oregon. Ms. Ball was a member of First Baptist Church in Jay.
Survivors include: her son, Jackie E. Ball, of San Bernardino, Calif.; one grandson, William Riley Ball of Jay; and nephew Jerry Don Goins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, in the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Chapel in Jay.
Services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

LEONARD A. BALLANCE
VINITA, Okla. - Leonard A. Ballance, Sr., 72-year-old Vinita resident, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at Kindred Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
Leonard was born March 16, 1929 in Wichita, Kan., to John and Evelyn M. (Downing) Ballance. He was retired from Vicks Sand and Gravel.
Leonard was married to Nobel Pearl McGill and later married to Lucille Rame.
Survivors include: Noble Pearl Ballance of Hope, Ark., and Lucille Rame of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two daughters, Hiawotha Covington of Hope, and Shearetta Walton of Dallas; two step-daughters, Kathrine Heltzel of Vinita, and Pearline Johnson; six sons, Leonard Ballance, Jr. of Hope, Adam Ballance of Fayetteville, Ark., Victor and Michael Ballance, both of Hope, Curtis Ballance of Little Rock, Ark., and Milton Ballance of Hope; five step-sons, Roy Lee McClellan of Wichita, Richard McClellan of Minnesota, Robert McClellan of Wichita, and Gene and James Rose of Vinita; one brother, James Ballance of Wichita; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren, and 18 step-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, at the First Baptist Church at 4th and Delaware, Vinita. Rev. Farris Downing will officiate. Interment will follow at Ketchum Cemetery.
There will be viewing at service only.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Burckhalter Funeral Home.

WILMA LEE BARGER
MIAMI, Okla. - Wilma Lee Barger, 78-year-old former Vinita resident, passed away early Monday, October 7, 2002 at Osburne Care and Rehab in Miami, Okla.
Wilma was born on February 9, 1924 in Vinita to Roy and Hazel (Williams) Samples. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: her children, Julie Bartley and husband, Eddie, of Vinita, and Colleen Silvia and husband, Tom, of Connecticut; stepchildren, Judy and Jim Barger of Alluwe, Rama Lee and Marion McClillan of Alluwe, Pete and Nola Barger of Shawnee, Charles and Joan Barger of Texas, and Patsy Folmar of Texas; six grandchildren, Tiffany Green and husband, Roy, Shane Canady and wife, Heather, Beau Bartley, Cathy Prowe and husband, Pete, Chris Ingram and wife, Lynn, and Craig Ingram; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Geneva Falling and husband, George, of Afton; two brothers, Bill Samples of Vinita and Roy Samples of Arkansas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 10, at 3 p.m. at Timpson Chapel with Rev. George Vaughn officiating.

ROBERT LEE BARLOW, JR.
EUCHA, Okla. - Robert Lee Barlow, Jr., age 74, died May 1, 2002 in the Grove General Hospital. The son of Robert and Ester Barlow, he was born on May 22, 1927 in Skiatook, Okla. Robert was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. He had worked for the Tulsa World and moved from Tulsa, Okla., to Eucha in 1970. Being blind, he liked to just dig in the dirt and enjoy the outdoors. He worried more about his animals than himself. His friends took him to breakfast every morning at the Mom's Country Kitchen in Jay, Okla. His parents and a daughter, Elaine Barlow, preceded him in death.
Survivors include: cousins, Donald and Corky Beach, and their daughter, Jackie; friends, Ace Roberson, Charlie Stepp, Chuck and Coleen Odle, Mike and Cathy McCullum, and Steve and Janice Odle.
The funeral will be at the graveside in the Spavinaw Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

CLARA LEONE BARNES
JAY, Okla. - Clara Leone Barnes, age 80, died Friday, May 31, 2002 in the Grove General Hospital. The daughter of Claude E. and Leona F. (Callahan) Martino, she was born on May 30, 1922 in Wyandotte, Okla. Clara moved to Jay from the Houston, Texas, area. A devoted mother, she was an independent person and took care of herself even though she was blind.
Survivors include: three sons, Howard Lee Hurley, Raymond Lee Hurley, and Richard Eugene Powers.
The funeral will be at the graveside in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5.
The services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

ROBERT MARION BARNES
JAY, Okla. - Robert Marion Barnes, 70, passed away November 4, 2002 at the Northwest Medical Center, Springdale, Ark. Marion was born March 15, 1932 to Dewey Barnes and Sarah Jane Fouts Barnes. He was married to Susie Ahrens Barnes.
He is survived by Etta Barnes Mauler, Bill Barnes, Barbara Cruse; seven children, Marion Lee Barnes, Tommy King, Doug Cole, Bobby Barnes, Joyce Ellis, Barbara Tripplet, and Johnny green; eight grandchildren, Lafe Barnes, Bronson Barnes, Kaylyn Barnes, Ethan Barnes, Sarah Watson, Gwen Watson, Tina Younger, Evan Luther, Megan Luther, Tim Luther, and Tommy Matthew.
A service is being held November 8 at 2 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay. Visitation will be November 7 at 6 p.m. Services are under the direction of Turner Funeral Chapel.

HELEN ALBERTA BARNETT
MIAMI, Okla. - Helen Alberta Barnett, 88, of Bluejacket, Okla., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami.
Ms. Barnett was an artist, originally from Miami.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 1, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Mo., followed by interment.
Arrangements were under the direction of Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miam.
