FLORENCE BAKER KLEIDER
GROVE - Florence Baker Kleider, 89, of Grove, passed away at Lakewood Heights Nursing Center in Wichita, Kan., on Thursday, April 11, 2002.
She was born on May 24, 1912 in Furley, Kan., the daughter of Charles and Minnie Baker.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grove.
She is survived by: her two daughters, Dorothy Clifton of Moline, Kan., and Betty Ann Pierce of Spanaway, Wash.; a son, Verle Mead of Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Thelma Elliot of Furley, Kan., and Pauline Schnoor of Wichita, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life was held at the Calvary Baptist Church in Valley Center, Kan., on May 25.
Contributions in lieu of flowers are requested and may be made in her name to the Arthritis Foundation-Kansas Chapter, 1602 E. Waterman, Wichita, KS 67211.

GLADYS E. KONCZAK
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Gladys E. Konczak, age 105, San Antonio, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 4, 2002. She was born August 10, 1897 to Arthur and Gertrude Baker in Osakis, Minn. Her husband, Frank Konczak, and her parents preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two daughters and son-in-laws, Joann and Robert Marmor of San Antonio, and Alta and Wesley Pauls of Tulsa, Okla.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private burial will take place at Sixkiller Cemetery, southeast of Afton, Okla. under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Afton.

JOHN ROBERT 'BOB' KORB
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - John Robert "Bob" Korb, a resident of Grove, died Tuesday morning, November 5, 2002 at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville at the age of 81 years.
He was born September 23, 1921 in Seneca, Mo., to Earl Leonard and Vannie B. (Taylor) Korb. He was a lifetime resident of the area and was a self-employed carpenter. He was a World War II Army Veteran and had received two purple hearts. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Miami, Okla., and the DAV in Grove. He married Norma Jean Rider at Columbus, Kan., January 7, 1949. She survives. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Dooley, a brother, Edward Korb, and a sister, Hattie Moates.
Survivors include: his wife, Norma, of the home; a son, Robert Eugene Korb, of Miami; one daughter, Bea and husband, John McMain, of Commerce, Okla.; one sister, May, and husband, Fred Berry, of Bremerton, Wash.; four grandchildren, Michael McMain, of Pittsburg, Kan., Melisa (Dooley) Jenkins and husband, Joe, of Tulsa, Okla.; Tiffany (McMain) Hall and husband, Jason, of Miami; Crystal (Dooley) Elliot and husband, Brandon, of Afton, Okla.; and four great-grandchildren, Austin McMain, Lauren McMain, Dillon Hall, and Ethan Hall.
Services will be held Thursday, November 7, at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Miami, officiated by Rev. James Duffel and Rev. J.L. Jones. Interment will be at Sixkiller Cemetery at Afton, Okla. Military rites will be conducted by the NEO Veterans Funeral Detail.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Korb, Jr., Tommy Korb, Michael Korb, Nub Stoops, Philip McMain, and Morris McMain.
Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.

DAVID LEE KOSTED
AFTON, Okla. - David Lee Kosted, 44-year-old Afton resident, passed away August 1, 2002 at Grove General Hospital. David was born August 6, 1957 in Vinita to Leo and Ada (Tucker) Kosted. He was a truck driver with Simmons Trucking.
He is survived by his wife, Laressa Kosted, of the home; mother, Ada Martin of Afton; children, John Kosted of Fairland, Shannon Watkins and husband, Chris, of Rockyford, Okla., and Shawn Russell and Dylan Russell, both of the home; sisters, Shere McCabe and children, Joseph Shanell, and Tahnee, of Afton, and Linda Martin and children, Charley Selsor and wife, Dawn, Charlotta Wyrick and husband, Benji, and Ursula Buckalew, all of Afton; grandmother, Pauline Tucker of Afton; and two granddaughters, Shawnie and Krishton Watkins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charley Tucker, and his father, Leo Kosted.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 3, at 2 p.m. at the Luginbuel Funeral Chapel with Dr. Newel Poteet officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Serving as pallbearers were Joe McCabe, Charley Selsor, James Branden, Bill Jones, Bill Landrum, and Greg Wyrick. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Service of Vinita.

ROBERT KRUEGER
GROVE - Robert Krueger, 66, entered eternal life on October 28, 2002 from mesothelioma, a rare cancer. He died at home.
Robert Krueger was born in Antigo, Wis., on October 11, 1936. He spent his early years on a dairy farm. He received his BS Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, Wis., and an MS degree in Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He began teaching in 1961 in the Milwaukee Public Schools System. He served the Milwaukee Schools as a teacher, supervisor, assistant principal and principal. Mr. Krueger also taught teacher education courses at Alverno College in Milwaukee. Mr. Krueger was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard and served on active duty in the U.S. Army during the Berlin and Cuban Crises. He retired in 1994 and came to live in Grove. Mr. Krueger was an active member of the Grove Kiwanis Club and was president of the club for one year. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara, of Grove; one son, Gregory Krueger of Franklin, Wis.; two daughters, Elizabeth Safer of Milwaukee, and Jenifer Myrick of Gillette, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and friends and relatives.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 31, at Grace Presbyterian Church with Dr. Richard Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church Deacon Fund or Good Shepherd Hospice, Grove.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

SHIRLEY LAMB
GROVE - Shirley Jean Lamb died Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at 4:38 a.m. at Freemen Health System West Hospital in Joplin, Mo. ,after an illness. She was 74.
Mrs. Lamb was born January 29, 1927 in Miami, Okla., to Arthur and Mabel (Houston) Mericle. She had lived in Grove for the past eight years, moving from the Lake of the Ozark, Mo. She attended the Grand Lake Baptist Church in Grove. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Lee Lamb.
She married E. Leroy Lamb on June 8, 1947 in Miami, he survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Darryl Lamb, of Wellington, Kan.; one daughter, D. Jeannie Lamb, of Collinsville, Okla.; two brothers, John Mericle of Sand Springs, Okla., and David Mericle of Virginia Beach, Va; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 12, at 10 a.m. at the Grand Lake Baptist Church in Grove. Rev. Larry Moore will officiate.
Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. The services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.

EVELYN E. LAMPHEAR
JAY, Okla. - Evelyn E. Lamphear, age 94, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at the Grove General Hospital. The daughter of John H. and Minnie (Hulse) Dawson, she was born on May 25, 1907 in Selina, Kan. Evelyn married Ervin Z. Lamphear in 1925 and he preceded her in death in 1978. She lived most of her life in the Jay area. She was a member of the Southside Church of Christ. Also preceding her in death was a son, Harold "Bud" Lamphear, in 1970.
Survivors include: five children, Troy Lamphear and wife, Joyce, of Miami, Okla., Daryle Lamphear of Jay, Marvin Lamphear of Miami, Gene Lamphear of Decatur, Ark., and Francis Gallinari and husband, Hank, of New York; one sister, Vera Gray; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 12, in the Southside Church of Christ. The interment will be in the Maysville Cemetery. The services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

OLA MAE LANDON
JAY, Okla. - Ola Mae Landon met her Lord Thursday, March 7, 2002.
She was born on December 7, 1919 to Ruth and A.J. Thompson in Roseburg, Ore. Seventeen years later her only brother, Ronald V. Thompson, was born. He preceded her in death. At two, Ola Mae moved to Texas then later to New Mexico where she met John Landon. The were married on March 8, 1941. From this union two children were born, Adele Simpson married to Paul, Claremore, Okla., and Joe Landon married to Linda, Collinsville, Okla. Survivors include: three grandchildren, Stephen Simpson married to Theresa, Clovis, N.M., and Tara and Foster Landon of Collinsville, and two great-granddaughters, Cali and Brooc of Clovis, N.M.
Ola Mae came to know the Lord at an early age and began teaching at Beginners Sunday School class at 13. The heartbeat of Ola Mae Landon was to minister to the whole person. She taught Sunday School, was Discipleship Training Director, W.M.U. Leader, Associational Leader and Deacon's wife for most of her adult life. Ola Mae began teaching in the public school system at age 18 in 1938. She taught for 43 years in New Mexico and Oklahoma. She retired from Jay Public Schools where she was voted teacher of the year by her colleagues. Ola Mae was president of Beta Pi Chapter from 1990 to 1992
Ola Mae is a member of the Jay Garden Club and loved her family, friends and people of Jay where she had been a resident since 1963.
Services for Ola will be Saturday, March 9, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Jay. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Herman Cemetery beside her beloved husband, John. Services are under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay.

LORETTA MAE (KRESS) LANGLEY
JOPLIN, Mo. - Loretta Mae (Kress) Langley, 68, of Miami, Okla., died Thursday, December 12, 2002, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, after an illness.
Mrs. Langley was born January 10, 1931 in rural Miami, to Myrtle A. (Potter) and Louis B. Baker. She graduated Miami High School in 1951 and later attended NEO College. She was a retired sales lady for Avon.
Mrs. Langley married Harry W. Kress on September 15, 1951, in Flagstaff, Ariz. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1999. A daughter, Janice O. Nelums, granddaughter, Rebecca Hart, and a sister, Jane Ray Welch, also preceded her.
Mrs. Langley married Ray Langley on November 22, 2002, in Picher, Okla. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: six sons, John D. Kress of Miami, Wesley A. and Eric T. Kress of Quapaw, Okla., Terryl D. Kress of Anderson, Mo., Steven L. Kress of Pittsburg, Kan., Miles Andrew Kress of Columbus, Kan.; one step-son, Ronald D. Kress of Rapid City SD; two daughters, Pamela Fanoele of Riverton, Kan. and Barbara Morgan of Parsons, Kan.; two brothers, Jim Baker of Carlin, Nev. and W.L. Baker of Wichita, Kan.; six sisters, Lois Forkner of Columbus, Kan., Ruth Griffey of Wash., Peggy Carpenter of Joplin, Mary Letner of Pittsburg, Kan., Marilyn Gates of Wichita, and Sue Ellen Mohrman of Iona, Minn.
Thirty-one grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, in the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami. Bro. Clifton Redden will officiate. Burial will be in the Lowell Cemetery in Lowell, Kan. under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Monday evening at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

LINDA MARGARET 'MILLER' LANGSTON
TULSA, Okla. - Linda Langston, age 58, died Friday, April 5, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 9, at 5 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 102 W. 4th Street, Grove, with the Reverend Anthony Randol.
Linda was born on January 29, 1944 in Blanchard, Okla., to Jake A. and Ruth O. Miller. She was married to Donald R. Vanover for 10 years in Oklahoma City, Okla., and had three children. She later married Carl G. Langston. She lived in Miami, Okla., from 1976 to 1997. She was employed for 27 years with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. She moved to Owasso in 2001 from Grand Lake. Her passions in life were her children, grandchildren, animals, and flowers.
Survivors include: her husband, Carl G. Langston; two children and their spouses, Kevin Glenn and wife, Debbie Vanover, of Owasso, and Tiffany Dawn and husband, Donald E. Smith, of Edmond, Okla.; one step-son and wife, Kenny and Mindy Langston, of Purcellville, Va.; one brother and his wife, Bill and JoAnn Miller, of Grove; two sisters, Dixie Stewart of San Diego, Calif., and Ginny Purdom of Grove; one sister-in-law, Lynda Long of Riverside Calif.; and seven grandchildren, Karlee Denae Wright, Colton Langston, Abbey Dawn Vanover, Quinton Langston, Amanda Leigh Smith, Denver Johnson Smith, and Mikel Anthony Hale.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Donald Richard Vanover, son, Christopher Richard Vanover, and her parents.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home in Grove. Viewing services will be held at the Ellis Family Funeral Home Monday, April 8, from 6 to 7 p.m.

THOMAS PHILLIP LAWSON
GROVE - Thomas Phillip Lawson (Phil) of Grove died Saturday, November 30, 2002. Born May 27, 1942 in Rome, Ga., Phil was the younger son of Jack and Mary Lawson, who preceded him in death.
He was raised and educated in Rockmont, Ga. and attended Auburn University. He was employed by General Motors and moved to Oklahoma City, Okla. where he finished his career after over 30 years of service. He was the treasurer and member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and served on the vestry.
He is survived: by his wife, Dee, of the home; three children, Lara of Tulsa, Okla., Julie and husband, James Jordan, Jeff and wife, Gina; six grandchildren, Kayla, Christopher and Ashleigh Jordan, Emily, Savanah and Jaycee Lawson, all of Canton , Ga.; mother and father-in-law, Irene and Ernest Simpson; and a host of nieces, nephews in-laws and friends.
Services will be held at St Andrews Episcopal Church of Grove on Wednesday, December 4, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be given to St. Andrew Episcopal Church Building Fund.

CHESTER G. LAYTON
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Chester G. Layton of Fairland died at 1:47 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002. He was 82.
Layton was born at Bernice, Okla., to Grover Cleveland and Roxie Ann (Landrum) Layton. He had lived in Ottawa and Delaware Counties all of his life. He attended school through the 8th grade at the Seneca Indian School at Wyandotte, and graduated from Afton High School with the class of 1939.
He had been a heavy equipment operator on pipeline construction. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #627, a member of the Frisco Masonic Lodge #24, a past member of the Fairland Lions Club, and a member of the First Baptist Church.
He married Grace Peckenpaugh on April 6, 1940, at Jay, Okla., and she survives of the home. Additional survivors include: a daughter, Barbara Layton Rucker and her husband, Robert, Santa Fe, New Mexico; two sons, Billy R. Layton and his wife, Mary, Woodlands, Texas, and Joe L. Layton and his wife, Donna, Neosho, Mo.; a sister, Marie DeRamus, Oklahoma City, Okla., seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 22, at the First Baptist Church, Fairland. Burial followed in the Fairland Cemetery under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Fairland..
