ALFRED L. MEAD
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Alfred L. Mead died at Grove General Hospital, Monday, January 28, 2002 after an illness. He was 74. Al was born at Humansville, Mo., on May 5, 1927. He had worked at many different jobs as a laborer, maintenance man, and cook. He married Alice May on September 15, 1954. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1998.
Survivors include: two sons, James and wife, Claudene, Mead of Carthage, Mo., and Charles Mead of Carthage; three daughters, Labaka Mead of Kansas, Karen and husband, Clark, Hopper of Fairland, Pena and husband, James, Potter of Carthage; a sister, Viola Burgess of Bonner Springs, Kan.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Burial was at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, SE of Fairland, Monday afternoon with Roland Adcock officiating. Arrangements were provided by Adcock Funeral Home of Fairland.

MR. WILLIAM HENRY MEADOWS
JAY, Okla. - Mr. William Henry Meadows, life long resident of Jay, Okla., died Saturday, June 22, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was 86. Mr. Williams was born July 25, 1915 to Albert Berry and Lenora (Martin) Meadows in Delaware County. He was a member of AFL-CIO, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 627 for 50 years, a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Jay. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Violet June.
He is survived by two children, Carol Owen Meadows of Grove, and Carolyn Sue Kahn of Stillwater, Okla; one sister: Ella Fields of Miami, Okla.; one brother, Bertie Lee Meadows of Jay; three grandchildren, Carla Stogsdill and Kimberly Green, both of Grove, and Jason Kahn of Los Angeles, Calif; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Dawn Green, Jessica Ann Green, Brent Colby Stogsdill and Kaysha Brenea Stodgsdill, all of Grove.
Graveside services were June 25 at the Jumper Cemetery in Jay with Rev. Clifford Loftis officiating. Services were under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

CHRISTOPHER MEDCALF
JAY, Okla. - Christopher Medcalf, age 80, died Sunday, February 10, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center, Springdale, Ark. Chris was born November 15, 1921 at Minden Mines, Mo., to General Medcalf and Ida Mae Hatfield. He graduated high school at Nole, Mo., later moved to California to work as a airplane mechanic, and later served in the Navy in WWII. Chris moved back to the Nole area and married Mary K. Brown in 1949. Chris and Mary moved to Jay in 1958 where they had a farm and Chris also worked for North American Airlines and Rockwell as an inspector. Chris was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Jay. Chris is preceded in death by one son, Lynn, in November of 2000.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary, of the home; two sons, Mike Medcalf of Langley, Okla., and Quanah Medcalf of Tulsa, Okla.
Family visitation will be at Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay, Wednesday, February 13 from 6-8 p.m. Services will be Thursday, February 14, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Jay at 2 p.m. Chris will be laid to rest at Eucha Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel of Jay.

MITCHELL MEDELL
GROVE - Mitchell Medell, 85, died Monday, October 21, 2002 at his home after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, at Grand Lake Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Moore officiating and Rev. Harvey Spohn assisting. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Inola, Okla. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mitchell Medell was born on January 4, 1917 in Bennington, Okla., to William Oscar and Martha Amy (Beams) Medell. He married Mabel Smith from Antlers, Okla., on September 29, 1934 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Mr. Medell was a member of the American Builders Association and was a residential builder for 50 years. He was a builder in Norman, Okla., for 20 years and in Pegosa Springs, Colo., for 11 years. Mr. Medell has lived in Grove for 10 years, moving from Joplin, Mo., after his retirement. He was a member of the Grand Lake Baptist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include: his wife, Mabel, of the home; one son, Danny Medell, Wichita, Kan.; one nephew, Mitchell Lee Medell, of McComb, Mich.; and one half-brother, Frank Mix Medell, of Lexington, Okla.
Memorial contributions may be made to any hospice organization.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, 918-786-5172.

ANITA L. MERRITT
GROVE - Anita Louise Merritt, 53, died Friday, August 9, 2002 at her home in Grove after a lengthy illness.
Anita Merritt was born November 10, 1948 in Kansas City, Mo., to Paul and Iloh (Curtis) Ingram. She married Herman "Butch" Merritt, Sr., on November 10, 1966 in Arkansas City, Kan. She worked as a Certified Medial Aid for the State of Kansas. Mrs. Merritt left Arkansas City in 1992. She was a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include: her husband, Herman "Butch" Merritt, Sr., Grove; one daughter, Sherry L. Cargile, Grove; two sons, Herman W. Merritt, Jr., and wife, Melissa, Grove, and Mark A. Merritt and wife, Michelle, Newton, Kan.; her parents, Paul and Iloh Ingram; one brother, Ronnie Joe Ingram, Emporia, Kan.; two sisters, Pam Pitts, Newkirk, Okla., and Paulette Luginsland, Beato, Kan. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, at Butler Cemetery with Rev. William Springer officiating. Visitation will be Monday, August 12, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

THELMA E. MEYER
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Thelma E. Meyer, lifelong resident of Fairland, died at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami Saturday, February 9, 2002 after an illness. She was 91. She was born June 29, 1910 at Fairland to Arthur and Eda Mathis Wilmoth. She attended Black School and Fairland High School. She married Virgil Meyer on April 29, 1933 at Vinita, and they farmed south of Fairland for 62 years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Fairland for more than 60 years.
Survivors include: one son, Wayne Meyer and Garnet Samson of Fairland; a daughter, Edith Williams of Commerce, Okla.; two brothers, Steve Wilmoth and Pete Wilmoth, both of Fairland; three sisters, Irene Rhodes of Fairland, Josie Cunningham of Hood River, Ore., and Mae Franklin of Sonora, Calif.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; a son, A. Leo Meyer; a sister, Mary Cullison; and a brother, Francis Wilmoth.
The funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, February 11, at First Christian Church in Fairland with Brian Giebler officiating. Burial followed at Fairland Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to First Christian Church of Fairland. Arrangements provided by Adcock Funeral Home.

FREDA M. MILLER
MIAMI, Okla. - Freda M. Miller of Miami died at her home at 3:40 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002 after a long illness. She was 86.
Miller was born June 28, 1915 at Miami to Ern and Maude and (Vanatta) Young, and had lived here her entire life. She had formerly worked at the Montgomery Ward and J.C. Penny Stores in Miami, and later worked in the admitting office at the Integris Baptist Regional Health Center for 18-1/2 years, retiring in 1976.
Mrs. Miller gradated from the Miami High School with the class of 1933, and attended Northeastern A&M College, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Miami.
She married William S. "Bill" Miller and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1975.
Survivors include: one daughter, Marilyn Sue Taiclet of Miami; two granddaughters, Melissa Ann Taiclet of Miami, and Connie Louise Taiclet of Cedar Hill, Texas; two grandsons, Vincent Eugene Taiclet of DeSoto, Texas, and Christopher Kevin Taiclet of Grand Prairie, Texas; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p .m. Monday, June 10, at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leland Mooney and the Rev. Dan Shackelford officiating. Burial followed in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.
Pallbearers were Bill Vanatta, Dr. Martin Grotheer, Steve Shackelford, Vince Taiclet, Chris Taiclet, and Jack Buttram.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

GARY S. MILLER
GROVE - Gary S. Miller, 56, of Grove, passed away October 16, 2002 at 10:55 a.m. at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Miller was born December 14, 1946 in St. Louis, Mo., to Lewis and Marie Miller. He was a 1967 graduate of Sullivan Missouri High School. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam war. After the war, he attended Tulsa University, graduating with a degree in Respiratory Therapy. Gary owned and operated Grand Lake Pulmo Care in Grove for several years before becoming ill. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church.
He married Karen Kay Wheeler January 23, 1976, she survives at the home. Additional survivors include: two sons, Rick Beck of Joplin, Mo., and Jason Miller, San Diego, Calif.; four daughters, Terri Marchant and husband, Larry, Cherryvale, Kan., Pam Jenkins and husband, Ron, Iola, Kan., Vicki Eagle and husband, Kevin, Yates Center, Kan., and Mike Miller of Grove; 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Peggy Navarro.
Memorial contributions may be made to Regency Hospice of Miami, Okla.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 19, at the Community of Christ Church, Grove. Burial will be at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Grove.
Family visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 18, at the Turner Funeral Chapel.

KATHLEEN MILLER
COFFEYVILLE, Kan. - Kathleen "Kassie" Miller, age 90, of Coffeyville, Kan., and the wife of C.W. (Chuck) Miller, a longtime Independence resident, died at 12:25 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2002 at her home. She had been in failing health.
Graveside funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence with the Reverend Jerry Adinolfi, Priest, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Coffeyville officiating. Memorial remembrances are suggested to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Coffeyville, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, or the American Cancer Society and will be received at the Potts Chapel, or may be mailed to P.O. Box 801, Independence, KS 67301.
Kathleen L. Miller was born April 18, 1912 in Coldwater, Kan., the daughter of John Patrick Daugherty and Minnie Lee (Tade) Daugherty. She grew up an attended school in Coldwater and Protection, Kan. Following her schooling she spent most of her adult life in Tulsa, Okla., where she owned and operated a barber shop in the Cities Service Building until her retirement.
In May of 1971 she was united in marriage to Charles W. (Chuck) Miller. The couple made their home in the Langley, Okla., area until moving to their present home in 1987.
She was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Vinita, Okla., and attended the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Coffeyville since moving to that city.
Survivors include: her husband, Charles W. (Chuck) Miller, of the home; two step-sons, Joe Miller of Coffeyville, Kan., and Michael Miller of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren, Kayhan Fatemi, Kim Wyer, Kianna Modir, and Charles Miller, all of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jayson Miller of Mulvane, Kan.; one niece , JoAnn Inman Pye of Rusk, Texas; a great niece, Julie Brown, and a great nephew Steve Pye.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.

DARRELL GENE MILLS
WATTS, Okla. - Darrell Gene Mills, age 54, died in a car accident on Cherokee 412 early Tuesday morning, March 12, 2002.
Darrell was born December 6, 1947 in Webb City, Okla., to Ira and Dorthy (Maze) Mills. Darrell was employed at Peterson's at Decatur, Ark. Darrell is preceded in death by one son, Darrell Jr., his parents, one brother, Donald, and one sister, Bonnie.
Survivors include: four children, Rebecca Lynn, David Ira, Archie John, and Darrell Mathew Mills; five brothers, and one sister.
Family visitation will be Friday, March 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay. Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m., March 16, at Grandview Cemetery at Kaw City, Okla. Services under direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay.

JAMES ALLEN MITCHELL, SR.
KANSAS, Okla. - James Allen Mitchell, Sr., 50-year-old Kansas resident, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at the Northwest Medical Center, Springdale, Ark. Born January 24, 1952 in Tulsa, Okla., he was the son of James Alvin and Carol Snyder Mitchell. He was raised in Kansas, a former resident of Cleveland, Okla. He returned to Kansas four years ago. Mr. Mitchell attended the University of Oklahoma and was an Emergency Medical Technician/Firefighter and instructor, a HAZMAT and CPR training instructor and fireman of 23 years. He was also a former member of the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was married to Roberta Dearman in Joplin, Mo., on August 10, 1979.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta, of the home; one daughter, Brandie Farmer, of Kansas; one son, James Mitchell, Jr., of Kansas; his mother, Carol Johnson, of Maplewood, N.J.; one sister, Kathy Willard, of Syracuse, Mo.; one granddaughter and three step-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 27, in the Kansas Cemetery, with Rev. Herman Miller and Rev. Roy Cowins officiating. Burial will follow in the Kansas Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home.
