Cornelson

Marie Cornelson, 93, died Friday at the English Village Manor Nursing Home in Altus, Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Texline, Texas Cemetery. with son-in-law Wesley Sheets officiating. Hass Funeral Home in Dalhart, Texas is in charge of arrangements. Kincannon Funeral Home provided local arrangements for the Cornelson family.

She was born Oct. 22, 1906, in Coy to Henry and Sara (Bergen) Zielke. She received her education at Coldwater. She married John K. Cornelson in Meade, Kan. and they farmed at Coldwater unit the "1930s" when they moved to Arizona. They later moved to California. The family moved to the Texline area in 1947 when they began a farming operation. Her husband died in 1971 when she moved to Truth of Consequences, N.M. She moved to Altus in 1985.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; a sister, Ann and two brothers, Elias and Sam Zielke.

Survivors include a daughter, Elsie Sheets, Altus; a son, Howard E. Cornelson, Fritch, Texas; a brother, Leonard Zielke, Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Monday at the Hass Funeral Home of Dalhart, Texas.

Cunningham

Alberta Cunningham, 96, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Grace Living Center. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Hollis with the Rev. James Densman officiating. Burial will follow at the Hollis Fairmont Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Cunningham was born Aug. 17, 1903, in Paris, Texas, to Frank and Elizabeth Huddle Burden. She attended school at Victory while residing with her sister and brother-in-law, Altha and Earl Stout.

She married J.M. Cunningham on Nov. 26, 1924, in Hollis. He preceded her in death in 1976.

She lived in Hollis most of her adult life and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hollis for more than 70 years. She had been employed by Taylor's Department Store and was a substitute rural mail carrier in Hollis.

Cunningham was preceded in death by one stepson, James M. Cunningham, Jr., in 1943 and a daughter-in-law, Deana Cunningham.

Survivors include: one son, Clint Cunningham of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters and their husbands, Juanelle and Steve Wilson, Altus, Charla and Bob Duggins, Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Stephanie Wilson and Jim Bob Wilson, Altus; one step grandson, Dannie Rollins of Fort Worth; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Dell Byrd, Altus and Cloma Southgate, Tulsa and many nieces and nephews.

Dobbs

Jane Dobbs, died March 20, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harvey Friedel officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid at 4 p.m. under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Dobbs was born in Enid, the daughter of George H. and Myrna (Reems) Wilson. She married William (Bill) Dobbs on Nov. 11, 1961, in Enid. He preceded her in death May 23, 1999.

She graduated from Enid High School and then attended William Woods College and then Oklahoma A&M. She was a longtime Altus and Jackson County resident.

Dobbs was involved with the Daughter's of the American Revolution, where she served as the state chairman and at the local level, as chapter regent. She was also a member of the P.E.O., Beta Mother's Club, Clionians and a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church. She also served on the Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council.

Dobbs was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by one sister, Myrna Lee Richardson.

Survivors include: two sons and their wives, Charles L. and Mary Dobbs, Altus and James W. and Michelle Dobbs of Oklahoma City; one brother, George Wilson of Enid and a sister, Sandy Meyers of Oklahoma City.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, Mary Beth and Bailey Dobbs of Altus and Austin Dobbs of Oklahoma City.

Memorials in honor of Jane Dobbs may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.

Dollins

Hazel B. Dollins, 93, died Tuesday, March 27, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home.

Ellison

Robert Ellison II, 86, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at Mangum City Hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. James Callins and the Rev. Sam Callins officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.

Ellison was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Dallas, to Robert and Melissia (Coker) Ellison. He lived in Shamrock, Texas, until 1989, when he moved to Mangum.

He married Bertha Jones, she preceded him in death. He then married Vernita Ellison in Odessa, Texas, on Aug. 18, 1983. He worked as a custodian for El Paso Natural Gas and Bell Telephone. He also shined shoes for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and a sister, Valerie Jackson.

Survivors include: his wife Vernita and by his children, Robert Ellison III and his wife Judy, Pampa, Texas, Joe Eddie Ellison and wife Lucille, Odessa, Texas, Harold Wayne Ellison and wife Linda of Pampa, Texas, Jewelene Wilson and husband Gain of Denver, Colo., Paul Dean Ellison, also of Denver, Royce Ellison and wife Georgia, Muskogee, Artie Neal Ellison of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Lillie Ruth Ellison of Dallas, Texas; 21 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Giles

Fern Giles, 89, Altus died Tuesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. David Chittenden officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

She was born Aug. 29, 1910 at Mansfield, La. to Carroll Carrick Neely and Lletie Inez (Ainsworth) Neely. She lived in the Altus area since 1957 moving here from Weatherford. She married Morris "Bud" Giles Nov. 13, 1980 at Vernon, Texas. He died April 17, 1998. She was a homemaker and her hobby was spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Lou and Ray Reed of Martha; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jackie Cox of Wichita Falls, Texas; a brother, Ronnie Neely of Kentucky; two sisters, Wilma McBride of Edgewood, Texas and Marilyn Leonard of Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a daughter, Joyce Stauffer.

Gonzales

Maria Gonzales, 82, Altus died Saturday at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Iglesia Samaria Pentecostal Church in Altus with the Rev. Salome Cassanova officiating. Burial will be at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

She was born May 13, 1917, in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Luis and Phedela (Roblez) Villareal. She married Guadalupe Gonzales March 3, 1939 in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1979. She was the pastor of her church from 1979 to 1992 and was also a homemaker for many years. She was a member of the Iglesia Samaria Pentecostal Church in Altus.

Survivors include her children, Guadalupe Centres and her husband, Manuel of Worland, Wyo., Leon Gonzales and his wife Victoria, Gualberto Gonzales and his wife Maria, Juan Gonsales and his wife Stella, all of Altus, David Gonzales and his wife Rachel of Worland, Wyo., Maria Lopez and her husband Jose, and Daniel Gonzales and his wife, Debbie also of Altus; a sister, Guadalupe Villareal of Victoria, Mexico; a brother, Rueben Lerma of Linares, Mexico; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and many friends and church members.

Gresham

Claude Gresham, 76, Smyrna, Tenn., and former Altus resident, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at his home. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna with Dr. Ross Maroney officiating. Burial will follow at Mapleview Cemetery.

Gresham was a native of Oklahoma and the son of Ernest and Maude Overstreet Gresham. He was a member of Stones River Baptist Church and an Air Force veteran from World War II. He was a retired auto mechanic.

Survivors include: his wife Joyce Gresham; two daughters, Edna Goodman, Smyrna, Tenn., and Paula Thompson, Dallas; one son, Chris Gresham, Lavergne; five grandchildren, three step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors after 5 p.m. today at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna, Tenn.

Gross

James F. Gross, 57, Altus, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at his home following a lengthy illness. Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Sonny Tims officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Altus Air Force Base.

Gross was born April 19, 1942, in Beloit, Wis., to Earl and Letha (Meade) Gross. On May 23, 1969, in Nocona, Texas, he and Carolyn McMahan were married.

His career with the Air Force began in 1961, lasting through 1981, retiring as a master sergeant. After his military retirement, he began a career as a flight simulator instructor for government contract, lasting 15 years. His career ended as a flight instructor with United Airlines.

Gross was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4876 and a member of the Lutheran Church of Blanchardville, Wis.

Survivors include: his wife of 30 years, Carolyn; two sons, Lloyd Ray Gross and wife Tracy and Roy T. Gross; one sister, Jean Vamstad of Blanchardville, Wis.; five grandchildren, Ashley Gross, Alan Gross, Samantha Schultz, Michael Schults and Tiffany Schultz; one nephew, Darrell Vamstad; one niece, Stacey Vamstad.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice in his memory.

James

Evelyn James, 74, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at The Church of the Living God in Mangum. Officiating will be the Rev. Delbert Allen. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.

James was born March 13, 1925, in Mangum, to Ora and Frank Smith. She was the fifth of seven children. She married Clarence Warren in Mangum in 1960. He preceded her in death in 1975.

She raised a nephew, Joe "Randy" Davis and three nieces, Jewell "Peaches" Oliver, Lanessa "Nessa" Hurd and Crystal "Chris" Hurd.

She was a member of The Church of the Living God and served as president of the mission until her health failed. She enjoyed cooking for her family, raising her children and gardening.

James is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and one brother.

Survivors include: two sisters, Etta Mae Henderson, Marietta and Donnie Mae Green of Mangum; one brother, Frank Smith, also of Mangum; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
