Ronald Joseph Wimberly

A memorial Mass will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Beaverton for Ronald Joseph Wimberly, who died Dec. 28, 2000, of a stroke at age 64. Recitation of the rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. in the church. Mr. Wimberly was born March 25, 1936, in Hutchinson, Kan. He was a real estate broker and lived in the Seattle area from 1966 until moving to the Portland area a few years ago. He was a member of the church. In 1959, he married Joy L. Minnix.

Survivors include his wife; son, Branson L.; daughters, Dawn M. Winslow, Erin K. Peerboom and Lesli A.; brother, Thomas M.; and eight grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the National Wildlife Federation. Arrangements are by Pegg, Paxson & Springer Funeral Home.

Jeanette L. DeBray

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Canby Funeral Chapel for Jeanette L. DeBray, who died Dec. 28, 2000, at age 60. Mrs. DeBray was born Sept. 17, 1940, in Omaha, Neb. Her maiden name was Hofmann. She moved to Portland as a child and attended Parkrose High School. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Gosser; son, John W. Bryant; father, George F. Hofmann; sister, Judy Hogland; brother, Mike Hofmann; and five grandchildren.

Interment will be in St. Patrick's cemetery in Canby.

Shirley Jeanne Evanson

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in St. Cecilia Catholic Church for Shirley Jeanne Evanson, who died Dec. 28, 2000, at age 58. Recitation of the rosary will be at 1 p.m. before the Mass. Miss Evanson was born Nov. 30, 1942, in Salem. She moved to Portland in 1951 and attended the Grout School for the handicapped. She was later in a cerebral palsy program in Portland. She attended Easter Seal camp for several years and was the first Easter Seals child for Oregon. She also attended a day program conducted by the Edwards Center in Milwaukie. She was a past member of St. Clare Catholic Church.

Survivors include her mother, Viola; and sister, Janet.

Private interment will be in Crescent Grove cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Oregon and SW Washington, 7830 S.E. Foster Road, Portland, OR 97206-5140. Arrangements are by Pegg, Paxson & Springer Chapel.

Rodney V. Granum

A service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Rodney V. Granum, who died Dec. 26, 2000, of cancer at age 70. Mr. Granum was born March 24, 1930, in Fargo, N.D. He moved to Aloha as a child and attended Hillsboro High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was the owner of Reedville Garage in Reedville until retiring in 1986. In 1952, he married Jane Umshler; they were later divorced.

Survivors include his daughter, Kerri Christensen; sons, Tracy and Stuart; sister, Muriel Blades; and nine grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Pegg, Paxson & Springer Chapel.

Richard C. Heisler

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Forest Grove Memorial Chapel for Richard C. "Rich" Heisler, who died Dec. 28, 2000, at age 82. Mr. Heisler was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Gales Creek, where he was raised. He graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1937. He owned a logging company for several years and also operated a farm in Scoggins Valley until 1961. Later, he owned a real estate company and was an appraiser and real estate broker. He owned and operated Heisler Construction Co. from 1970 until 1976. He then owned and operated Red Carpet Realty until he retired in 1985. He was chairman of the Washington County Board of Equalization in 1977 and served as a Washington County commissioner for one term in the 1970s. In 1985, he married Catherine Christopher.

Survivors include his wife; son, Richard A. "Dick"; sister, Pauline Shields; half sister, Debra Anderson; half brothers, Carl and Gary; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Interment will be in Gales Creek cemetery. Arrangements are by Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home.

Hazel M. Hingley

Hazel M. Hingley died Dec. 30, 2000, at age 78. A private graveside service will be held. Mrs. Hingley was born March 3, 1922, in Chicago. Her maiden name was Johnson. She was raised in Denver and lived there until moving to Portland in 1980. She was a homemaker. In 1940, she married Frank Hingley; he died in 1999.

Survivors include her son, Noel; daughter, Karen Gardner; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Interment will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Oregon City. Arrangements are by Peake Memorial Chapel.

Jerry Sumisu Inouye

A funeral will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in First United Methodist Church in Portland for Jerry Sumisu Inouye, who died Dec. 28, 2000, of cancer at age 79. Mr. Inouye was born April 13, 1921, in Portland. He graduated from Franklin High School. He was interned at Minidoka Relocation Camp in Idaho before entering the U.S. Army during World War II. He managed the Grant, Everett and Drake hotels in Portland, and owned and managed the Court Apartments from 1946 until the late 1970s. He then was the manager of the Benihana Restaurant and later produce buyer for Strohecker's Inc. until his retirement. He was a board member of the Japanese Garden Society and a president of the Japanese Ancestral Society. He was a president of the Japanese Hotel Association and the Japanese Golf Association. He was a founding member of the Portland-Sapporo Sister City Association and an active member of the Konko Church. In 1947, he married Grace Yoshiko Kuranishi; she died in 1992.

Survivors include his son, Kurtis; daughters, Karen Sunada, Donna Akagi and Sherrie Sparrman; sister, Kio Nakayama; and seven grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Rose City cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Konko Church, 1330 S.E. 92nd Ave., Portland, OR 97216. Arrangements are by Riverview Abbey Funeral Home.

Anne L. Rader

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2000, in St. James Episcopal Church in Tigard for Anne L. Rader, who died Dec. 22 at age 69. Mrs. Rader was born Aug. 13, 1931, in Toledo. Her maiden name was Lytle. She moved to Portland as a child and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She also graduated from Colorado Women's College in Denver. She returned to Portland after college and later was a supervisor for Pacific Northwest Bell for about 16 years until retiring in 1972. She moved to Gleneden Beach in 1986 and to Tigard last July. In 1952, she married Donald D. Rader.

Survivors include her husband.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Kaiser Permanente Hospice. Arrangements are by St. Johns Funeral Home.

Dale Oren Rocheleau

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Central Church of the Nazarene for Dale Oren Rocheleau, who died Dec. 28, 2000, of a heart attack at age 48. Mr. Rocheleau was born May 24, 1952, in Rugby, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army for six years. He moved to Mulino and was a machine operator for Package Containers in Canby for more than 20 years. He moved to Portland in 1992. He was a member of the church. In 1992, he married Robin Adler.

Survivors include his wife; son, Riley; daughter, Danielle; mother, Rose; brothers, Mark and Alan; and sister, Wanda Long.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to his church. Arrangements are by Portland Funeral Alternatives.

Virginia Scherer

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Salmon Creek United Methodist Church in Vancouver, Wash., for Virginia Scherer, who died Dec. 25, 2000, at age 80. Mrs. Scherer was born April 25, 1920, in Montrose, Mo. Her maiden name was Mason. She was raised in Sterling, Colo., and moved to the Salmon Creek neighborhood in 1946. She was a bookkeeper and office manager for several companies in the Portland area until retiring. She was a member of the church. In 1940, she married Chuck Scherer.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Nancy Hughes, Jan Adams and Norma Ninomiya; son, Larry; brothers, Bob Mason, Chuck Mason, Jim Mason and Bernie Mason; and nine grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Salmon Creek United Methodist cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to her church. Arrangements are by Vancouver Funeral Chapel.

Cora Schmidt

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in Laurel Community Church for Cora Schmidt, who died Dec. 29, 2000, at age 86. Mrs. Schmidt was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Corbett. Her maiden name was Hulit. She moved to the Hillsboro area as a child and attended Hillsboro High School. She was an assembler for Tektronix for more than 25 years until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the church. In 1934, she married Walter Schmidt; he died in 1998.

Survivors include her sons, Larry and Gordon; brother, Curtis Hulit; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Mt. Olive cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to her church. Arrangements are by Donelson, Sewell & Mathews.

Sydney Morgan Steinberg

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Young's Funeral Home for Sydney Morgan Steinberg, who died Dec. 27, 2000, at age 5. Sydney was born Feb. 20, 1995, in Pensacola, Fla. She moved from Albuquerque, N.M., to the Portland area last March.

Survivors include her parents, Thomas and Amy; sister, Shelby; brother, Brady; grandparents, Thomas Sr. and Sallie Steinberg, and Bob and Mary Rogers.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Emanuel Medical Center Foundation.

Alice M. Stone

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem for Alice M. Stone who died Dec. 24, 2000, at age 92. Mrs. Stone was born June 23, 1908, in Portland. Her maiden name was Hearn. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy and completed her nursing training at St. Vincent Hospital. She moved to Salem in 1942 and was a nurse at the Oregon State Hospital from the mid-1950s until the early 1960s. Then she was a nurse for the Salem-Keizer School District until retiring in the early 1970s. She was president of the Marion-Polk County Medical Auxiliary from 1948 until 1949. She was a member of the church. In 1937, she married Dr. Willard J. Stone; he died in 1997.

Survivors include her sons, Jack and Michael; daughter, Jeanne Sweet; sister, Angela Hearn; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Salem Hospital Foundation, c/o Pediatrics, P.O. Box 14001, Salem, OR 97309. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem.
