Gordon L. Quigley

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Caldwell's Colonial Chapel for Gordon L. Quigley, who died April 5 at age 75. Mr. Quigley was born Aug. 8, 1925, in Palisades Park, N.J. He lived mostly in New York City before moving to Coos Bay in 1972 and to Portland in 1985. He was a cab driver. In 1971, he married Marie LaBonte; she died in 1999.

Survivors include his stepdaughters, Juanita Schlappie, Maxine Rock, Renee Norcross, Barbara Schlappie and Beverly Kingbird; stepson, Robert Schlappie; sister, Ruth Van Nest; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Interment on the Grand Ronde Indian Reservation. Remembrances to the American Cancer Society.

Ozell 'Kay' Quigley

A memorial gathering will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in the home of Bonnie Hodge in Portland for Ozell "Kay" Quigley, who died March 28 at age 81. Mrs. Quigley was born Ozell Knight on Sept. 28, 1919, in Oswalt, Okla., and was raised in New Mexico. She lived in Portland and Coos Bay and returned to Portland in 1966. She was a caregiver for the elderly and disabled for 20 years until her retirement in the mid-1990s. In 1940, she married Norbert Shauger; they divorced. In 1950, she married Stanley Quigley; he died in 1957.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Shauger and Theodore Quigley; daughter, Bonnie Hodge; brother, Chester Knight; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Interment in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum. Arrangements by Riverview Abbey.

Marvin Leigh Rosenstengel

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes for Marvin Leigh Rosenstengel, who died April 6 at age 83. Mr. Rosenstengel was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Perry, Mo. He moved in 1957 to Portland, where he was a city bus driver and later a warehouse worker for Schuss Wholesale Grocers, retiring due to a job-related injury in 1964. In 1958, he married Imogene Molvar Ringland.

Survivors include his wife; son, Alvin; stepson, Jan T. Molvar; daughter, Doris Brock; sisters, Margaret Smith and Helen Poore; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Remembrances to the American Cancer Society.

Robert A. Shand

A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Beaverton for Robert A. Shand, who died April 6 at age 70. Mr. Shand was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Portland. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1948, and from Cal-Aero Technical Institute in Los Angeles. He served in the Oregon National Guard. He was a mechanical engineer for Tektronix for 20 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the church. In 1955, he married Maryanne Courtney.

Survivors include his wife; son, Douglas; daughters, Theresa Marie Valentine-Hong, Carol L. Shand and Mary Elizabeth Shand-Aho; brother, James D.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Interment in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. Remembrances to any hospice. Arrangements by Wilhelm.

Mary Margret Steckmann

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in First Baptist Church in Milwaukie for Mary Margret Steckmann, who died April 7 at age 78. Another memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon, Wash. Mrs. Steckmann was born Mary Lightfoot on Nov. 22, 1922, in Spokane. She moved to Portland in 1988. She had served with Nursing Home Ministries in Milwaukie for the past 10 years. She married David Steckmann, a pastor, in 1943; he died in 1988.

Survivors include her sons, Phillip, Mark and Joseph; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Interment in the White Salmon cemetery in White Salmon. Remembrances to Nursing Home Ministries. Arrangements by Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon.

Donna Jean Arct

Donna Jean Arct died April 4, 2001, at age 73.

Mrs. Arct was born Donna Jean King on Nov. 3, 1927, in Hastings, Neb. She moved to Portland and graduated from Girls Polytechnic High School. She was a secretary in Portland until 1956, when she became a homemaker. She moved to Deer Park, Wash., in 1974 and returned to Portland in 1998.

Survivors include her sons, Donald and Roger; daughter, Colleen Nicholson; brothers, Kenneth King and Roger King; and one grandchild.

Private service. Remembrances to the Easter Seal Society of Oregon. Arrangements by Portland Funeral Alternatives.

Edgar Oliver Baxter

Edgar Oliver Baxter died March 26, 2001, at age 85.

Mr. Baxter was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Eugene. He worked in the Portland shipyards during World War II. He then started an Army surplus store, which became Andy & Bax Sporting Goods and GI Surplus. He bought out his partner in the early 1960s and it has been a family business since then. He retired in 1980 and moved to Black Butte Ranch near Sisters. In 1940, he married Marjorie Hart; she died in 1999.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Baxter; son, Daniel H. Baxter; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

No service. Remembrances to a charity of choice. Arrangements by Niswonger, Reynolds & Tabor in Bend.

Daryl A. Dunrud

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Molalla Funeral Chapel for Daryl A. Dunrud, who died April 3 at age 77.

Mr. Dunrud was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Gully, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. He moved to Oregon after the war and lived in the Estacada, Woodburn and Molalla areas. He was a logger until his retirement in 1986. His wife, Ina Hancock, died in 1980.

Survivors include his daughters, Susan Ruttan, Debra Stephens and Darlene Apple; brothers, Daniel and Dennis; sister, Lorrayne Teske; companion, Marie Anderson; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His daughter Dorothy Huffman died in 1989.

Remembrances to the Alzheimer's Association.

Judith Freedman

A celebration of life will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, in Rose Schnitzer Manor for Judith Freedman, who died April 7 at age 84.

Mrs. Freedman was born Judith Solomon on Jan. 30, 1917, in Fostoria, Ohio. A concert soprano who played the harp, violin and piano, she received a degree in music from Roosevelt University. She taught kindergarten in Chicago and later in the Hillsboro School District until retiring in 1980. She moved to Oregon in 1966, living in Forest Grove, Aloha and Portland. In 1940, she married Albert Freedman.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Carol Karol; sons, Richard and David; sister, Rose Wheeler; and four grandchildren.

Leatrice A. Howell

Leatrice A. Howell died April 1, 2001, at age 76.

Mrs. Howell was born Leatrice A. Werner on Nov. 9, 1924, in Beverly Hills, Calif., where she was raised. She lived in several locations in California and owned and operated Mendenhall Variety Store in Big Pine, Calif., for 10 years. She moved to Forest Grove in 1997. In 1964, she married Russell A. Howell.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Melanie Hart and Jennifer Haywood; sons, Melvin Archer and John Howell; sister, Beverly Foltz; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Private service. Remembrances to Big Pine Fire Department. Arrangements by Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt.

Margaret Irene Jay

Margaret Irene Jay died April 2, 2001, at age 90.

Mrs. Jay was born Margaret Irene Anderson on Nov. 15, 1910, in Aberdeen, Wash. She was a homemaker who moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 1954. In 1929, she married Russell Jay; he died in 1992.

Survivors include her daughter, Carole Obert; son, James; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Private service. Remembrances to the Koinonia Hall-Kitchen Fund at St. John Lutheran Church in Vancouver. Arrangements by Hamilton-Mylan in Vancouver.

George P. Molloy

George P. Molloy died April 4, 2001, at age 81.

Mr. Molloy was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Boston. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and also served during the Korean War. He worked for McDonnell Douglas while in California and later was an electronics teacher in Portland until his retirement. He moved to Portland from the San Fernando Valley in 1972 and to McMinnville in 1995. In 1943, he married Ila Farley.

Survivors include his wife; son, George II; stepdaughters, Barbara Bannister and Patricia Scheer; sisters, Anne Lombardi and Barbara Daly; brothers, Francis, Jack, Joseph and Robert; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.

No service. Arrangements by Macy & Son in McMinnville.
