Jessie L. King

Funeral services for Jessie L. King, 79, Brookings, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Scantlin's Brookings Mortuary and Chapel, 2 Ross Road, Brookings.

A service and interment will follow at W.J. Ward Memorial cemetery.

She was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Tucson, Ariz., to B. Alonzo Gaddy and Lorena May (Woodward) Gaddy. She died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at a Crescent City hospital.

Mrs. King was raised and educated in Jacksonville. She was married to George A. King in Medford on Nov. 22, 1937. The couple would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary next month.

She enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Easter Star.

Survivors include her husband, George A. King of Brookings; sons, Wesley King and his wife Carol of Cottonwood, Calif., and Terry King of Federal Way, Wash; a daughter, Bonnie Miner of Brookings; a sister, Dorthey Guess of Anderson, Calif.; grandchildren, Tonya, Pennie, Michael, Suzie, Jeanette and Wesley; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Angela, Andrew and Austin.

Mrs. King was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.

Don Brey

A service for Don Brey is scheduled Monday at 2 p.m. in the Victory Baptist Church, 555 Hemlock St.

Mr. Brey, 62, an avid outdoorsman, succumbed Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, to an apparent heart attack. He had claimed his deer a short time before his death, friends said.

He and his wife, Maxine, who survives, had been married for 41 years. They married on Aug. 13, 1958.

He had served as a member of the U.S. Navy for three years during the 1950s.

They were long-time residents of the Brookings, dating from the 1950s, friends said.

He was born on July 31, 1937.

Litty's funeral chapel of Brookings is in charge of the arrangements.

Janet Avonell Gehrke

Janet Avonell Gehrke, 64, formerly of Brookings, died of heart failure in Cottage Grove on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Market Street Chapel in Springfield.

Mrs. Gehrke was born April 1, 1935 in Diamondville, Pa. Her parents were David J. and Ethel M. Learn. She married Robert L. Gehrke on June 25, 1951 in Colville, Wash.

The couple lived in Brookings from 1955 to 1983. He died in July 1989.

Mrs. Gehrke is survived by her mother, Dianna Fowler of Newberg; Lynne Dee Gehrke of Falls Church, Va; Roger Gehrke of Cottage Grove; Aydria Morrow of Clackamas; David Gehrke of Eugene; Loren Gehrke of Hillsboro; and Debbie McBeth of Dallas; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Loretta M. Bond

Loretta M. Bond, 81, of Brookings, died at a Brookings nursing home on Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999.

Mrs. Bond was born Oct. 7, 1918, in Alberta, Canada. She and her family moved to Oregon when she was 5 years old. She was raised and educated in Oregon.

She married Dallas "Butch" Bond in Reno, Nev.

Mrs. Bond enjoyed reading and worked as a licensed vocational nurse in several hospitals.

Surviving is her husband of Brookings; stepsons Chuck and Lee Bond, both of Brookings; and stepdaughter Rhonda Ledford of Brookings.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

At her request, no formal services will be conducted. Arrangements are under the direction of Scantlin's Brookings Mortuary and Chapel.

Annie M. Spade

Annie M. Spade of Brookings died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, in a Brookings care facility. She was 87.

Mrs. Spade was born March 10, 1912, in Honolulu. She came to the mainland with her parents and lived in Hayward, Calif., formerly Russell City, Calif., where she was raised and educated.

She was married to Kenneth L. Spade who preceded her in death. She lived with her children before moving to Brookings. Mrs. Spade was an avid reader.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, William and Tekla Vines of Gasquet; daughters and son-in-law, Louise M. and John Austin of Alamogordo, N.M., and Betty Ann Robinson of Dunedin, Fla; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Ferroni of San Rafael, Calif.

Mrs. Spade was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and seven sisters.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scantlin's Mortuary Chapel in Brookings.

Melvin Goit

Melvin Goit, 84, of Brookings died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Medford.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 188 E. Cooper Ave., Crescent City.

Mr. Goit was born July 10, 1915, in North Hollywood, Calif. On Aug. 24, 1991, he married Leola Ruth Lockwood. He moved to Brookings 35 years ago from Palmdale, Calif.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. After that he was self-employed as a commercial fisherman and also owned and operated a trucking company.

Mr. Goit enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and square dancing. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Crescent City.

Survivors include his wife of Brookings; daughters Melva Kirkendall of Murietta, Calif., and Linda Clewett of Sun City West, Ariz.; sons Bill Goit of Agness and John Goit of Lancaster, Calif.; brother Bob Goit of San Diego; sister Frances Norton of Carlsbad, Calif.; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Goit, in 1986; his daughter, Loralee Pew in 1999; and grandson Timothy Goit in 1980.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 188 E. Cooper Ave., Crescent City, CA 95531.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives in Medford.

Ernest E. McKenzie

Ernest E. McKenzie, 77, of Brookings, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999 at a Brookings care facility.

Mr. McKenzie was born April 22, 1922 in Bremerton, Wash.

He worked at various jobs including tow truck driver in San Francisco and Salinas, Calif. and as a commercial fisherman.

He married Alma Jean Larson Aug. 29, 1958 in San Francisco. In 1996, he and his wife retired to Brookings.

He is survived by his wife of Brookings; a brother, Ted McKenzie and a sister, June Zinzer.

Mr. McKenzie was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Interment was at W.J. Ward Memorial cemetery, Brookings.

Arrangement were handled by Scantlin's Brookings Mortuary and Chapel.
