DENNISE LYNN KIRPATRICK

Dennise Lynn Kirkpatrick, 29, died Nov. 7, 2003, at her home in Crescent City, Calif.

She was born May 21, 1974, in San Diego, Calif., to Dennis and Patricia Lamb.

She grew up in San Antonio, Tex., and moved to Brookings in 1993. She relocated to Crescent City in 1998.

While living in Brookings, she was employed at Fred Meyer. She loved to go out dancing and sing karaoke. She enjoyed the theater and worked with the Pelican Players. She will be remembered as a caring, warm and loving person, her family said.

Survivors include her husband Brett and daughter Patricia Ann, of Crescent City; stepdaughter Danielle Kirkpatrick of Crescent City; mother and "earth dad" Patricia and Lee Burch of Brookings; sister Cathleen Lamb of Corvallis; brothers Michael Burch and Jonathan Burch of Brookings and Richard Burch of San Diego; mother-in-law Judy Kirkpatrick of Crescent City; sister-in-law Leslie Danner and her husband Marc of Crescent City.

She was preceded in death by her father and her father-in-law.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Crescent City Foursquare Church, at the corner of Pacific and Butte avenues, where she attended church and was baptized.

Family and friends will commit her ashes to the Pacific, where she will join her dad.

Richard Allan Willis

Richard "Rick" Allan Willis, 75, a longtime Brookings-Harbor resident, died unexpectedly Oct. 5, 2004, at a local hospital of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 10, 1929, in Englewood, Colo. to Elzay and Thelma Eggerman Willis.

As a small child, he moved to Los Angeles with his family. Following the death of his father, his mother remarried and, while still a child, Mr. Willis moved with his family to Selma. He attended high school in Kerby.

As a young man, he joined the Navy Seabees and served four years before his honorable discharge.

Mr. Willis worked in heavy equipment and timber before moving to Brookings in 1954. He was employed by Littrell's Part House for several years. He then took employment with Brookings Supply, now Napa Auto. Mr. Willis usually had a side job as well. He ran a projector at the drive-in theaters in Brookings and Cave Junction, and painted lumber trucks for South Coast Lumber Co. He retired in the early 1990s from Dan's Auto Parts.

Mr. Willis and his first wife Roberta "Bobbi" May had one child, Linda. They were later divorced.

On August 11, 1962, he married Kathleen Marie Moore in Merrill. The couple had two daughters. Mrs. Willis passed away on Nov. 13, 1994.

In 1997, he met Meralyn Ard, and they married on Dec. 13, 2000, in Eureka, Calif.

His family remembers Mr. Willis as an outgoing, friendly and warm family man. In younger years, he drag-raced several cars, including the family Mustang and GTO. He enjoyed working in his yard, as well as golfing, fishing, bowling, beach-combing and bingo.

He was a talented musician, and played both the guitar and piano by ear.

He created and sold beautiful lamps made from the driftwood he gathered on beach walks. Last month, he was recognized as Co-Artist of the Month at the Manley Art Center, along with his wife, Meralyn.

He regularly attended the Brookings Nazarene Church, and was a member of the Elks. Following a family tradition of service to the Salvation Army, he had volunteered his time as a Christmas season bell ringer for the last 10 years.

Mr. Willis had enjoyed serving as a member of the line-marker "chain-gang" for the Brookings-Harbor High School varsity football team from 1978 to 2003.

Survivors are his wife Meralyn of Brookings; daughters and sons-in-law Lesli Willis-Magann and Patrick Magann of Petaluma, Calif., and Gina and Ryan McVay of Roseburg; grandchildren Kourtney Moore of Petaluma, Calif. and Mitchell McVay of Roseburg.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Willis, and wife Kathleen Willis.

Memorials may be made to The American Heart and Lung Assoc., 1425 N.E. Irving, Suite 100, Portland, OR 97232; or to the Susan G. Kommen Breast Cancer Foundation, 1411 S.W. Morrison, Suite 290, Portland, OR 97205.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at the Church of the Nazarene, 1600 Chetco Avenue, Brookings.

Cremation is under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel and Crematory.

Raymond E. Otis

Raymond E. Otis, 84, of Smith River, Calif. died Oct. 9, 2004 at Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, Calif. of natural causes.

He was born July 14, 1920 in Bainbridge Island, Wash.

He was a Del Norte County resident for 50 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II for five years and is one of the last of the "Greatest Generation."

He was active in the community. He served on the Del Norte Unified School District School Board. He was an active member of the Smith River American Legion Post 712 and Brookings Elks Lodge 1934.

He was an avid supporter of the previous Warriors Bench Boosters Club and was past member of the PTA in Smith River. He greatly enjoyed sports including bowling, fishing, the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Julie Otis; daughter Wendy and son-in-law Ben Goggins of Tybee Island, Ga.; sons Darrell Otis of Garden City, Ga., Scott Otis of Aurora; sister Lily Compton of Puyallup, Wash.; granddaughters and their spouses Jill and Doug Norwood of Clarksville, Md., Michele and Jim Bonano of St. Augustine, Fla.; great-granddaughter Claire Norwood.

Remembrances may be made to the Smith River American Legion or the donor's favorite charity.

A service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Wier's Mortuary Chapel in Crescent City.

Jeremiah "Jerry" Allen Harrell

Jeremiah "Jerry" Allen Harrell, 20, of Brookings, died Oct. 9, 2004, at a Eugene hospital of injuries sustained in an automobile accident; his parents, sister and extended family were at his side.

He was born Oct. 16, 1983, in Crescent City, Calif. to James "Allen" and Doreen Marie Fritz Harrell, and had lived his entire life in Brookings.

He attended Kalmiopsis Elementary School, Azalea Middle School and graduated from Brookings-Harbor High School in 2002. He was quiet and studious, his family said, and attained Certificates of Initial Mastery in several areas of academic study.

He participated in track and cross-county in middle school and high school, and played the baritone and trombone in band. During his senior year, he was recognized with the John Phillips Sousa award and a "Semper Fidelis" award, which is given to a graduating senior by the Marine Corp. He was also invited to participate in the Northwest High School Symphonic Band in Tacoma, Wash.

Jerry greatly enjoyed cars, especially Dodges. In high school, he drove a 1967 Dodge Dart which had been restored by his father and uncle and driven by his uncle while in high school, before being handed down to him.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he attended faithfully, and volunteered his time to operate and maintain the church computers, PowerPoint presentations and sound system.

He worked for Anchor Lock and Key while in high school and after graduation. In June, he joined his father in the family business, Harrell Electric. He had decided to learn the electrician trade, and was serving his apprenticeship. Recently he assisted in the wiring of Trinity Lutheran's new church kitchen.

Survivors include his parents Allen and Doreen Harrell, sister Jessica Ann Harrell, grandparents Herbert and Erma Fritz, Gladys and Wayne Schmidt, great-grandmother Dorothy Porter, all of Brookings; aunts Rose Harrell of Brookings, Donna Herrick and husband Leo of San Jose, Calif.; uncles Albert Harrell and wife Ann of Brookings, Timothy Harrell and wife Annie of Portland, Darrell Whirry and wife Beth of Brookings, Bill Fritz and wife Judy of Las Vegas. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather James Ernest Harrell.

Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1199, Brookings, OR 97415.

The community is invited to a memorial service at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Dr. Gordon E. Myrah, pastor, officiating.

Private interment will be held at W.J. Ward cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
