Barbara Jean Saylor
May 7, 1931 – February 12, 2010

Barbara Jean Saylor, of Oregon City, Oregon, passed away at her home on February 12, 2010, at the age of 78. Barbara was born to Issac T. and Jenieve (Armbrust) Williams in Oregon City, Oregon, on May 7, 1931. She married Bill Saylor and they had six children: four daughters and two sons.

Barbara graduated Oregon City High School. She enjoyed being a homemaker and also worked in the Safeway bakery. She was a community activist and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and H.O.P.E.

Barbara is survived by her sons Terry Saylor and Larry Saylor; daughters Cheri Effinger, Sandi Olsen, Tina Huber, and Cathy Hoffee.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at St. Paul’s Episcopal parish at 1:00 p.m.

Arrangements were made with Crown Memorial Center – Milwaukie.

Hester Benton Miles Eaton
June 7, 1915 – Feb. 11, 2010

94 years ago Hester Benton Miles was born in Westerly, Rhode Island. She spent the majority of her childhood growing up in Putnam, Connecticut and Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire. In 1937, Hester graduated with a BA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and not long after she married Elmer Kenneth Eaton on October 17, 1938.

A devoted wife and mother (she was known as Marmee to her kids), Hester embraced her role as homemaker, while enhancing her life with good literature, communing with nature, and as a member of the United Church of Christ. She also loved to take part in stimulating, intelligent conversations. A resident of New Haven, CT for 33 years, Hester moved to Oregon in 1982, where she’s been ever since.

Marmee is survived by sons; Gerald of Omokoroa, New Zealand & Thomas of Houston Texas, daughters; Janice Eaton Bennette, and Alice Eaton – both from Portland, OR. Hester is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Diane, and husband Elmer. A celebration of her life is Saturday, Feb. 20th, 2010 at her daughter Jan’s home. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center – Portland.

Marilyn LaVonne Hubbard

Marilyn LaVonne Hubbard died on the morning of February 11, 2010, at the age of 86. The Portland native was born to Maurice and Ruth Michaels on October 16, 1923. As a young woman, Marilyn lived many places throughout the country such as New York, Florida, and Oregon, in addition to spending some time in the U.S. Coast Guard. She married Donald Hubbard in the mid 1950’s, and the couple had daughter, Beverly, in 1956 followed by son, Robert, in 1958. Marilyn could be described as a woman who loved other people and lived life to the fullest. She was also incredibly selfless and elegant with a penchant for reading and traveling.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Tom Baier; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Carol Hubbard, and grandson, Robert Hubbard, Jr. She also leaves behind her “grandkits”, Emmy and Pooh. There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Berry Park Retirement Community in Oregon City, where Marilyn lived for over two years, on February 28, 2010 at 1:30 pm. The family has requested that donations be made to Providence Willamette Falls Hospice in lieu of flowers. Arrangements were handled by Crown Memorial Center in Milwaukie.

Fern Opal Kreitz
April 19, 1918 – February 10, 2010

Fern was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all that she touched.

A true native Oregonian raised on her family farm in Parkrose, Oregon. Graduated with a Bachelor of Science from OSU in 1940, she was a member and officer in the Chi Omega Sorority since 1936 and also a long time member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

She became the bookkeeper of the family business, Oliphant & Bates Insurance, where she met her late husband, Richard V. Kreitz.

She enjoyed playing golf and was a long time member of the Riverside Golf and Country Club with her husband. Other than golf, she enjoyed playing bridge and being with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son; Ronald; daughter-in-laws, Debbie and Connie; and grandchildren, Ken, Cozetta, Justin, and Davin.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 11:30 am at the Meridian United Church of Christ, 6750 Boeckman Road, Wilsonville, Oregon 97070.

Laura Jean Sherman Bondietti
May 24, 1962 – February 9, 2010

Laura Jean Sherman Bondietti of Milwaukie, Oregon, passed away on February 9, 2010, at the age of 43. Laura was born in Portland, Oregon, to John C. and Joyce (Brock) Sherman on May 24, 1962. She was raised in Oregon and Canada, and married Carl J. Bondietti September of 1991 in Portland, Oregon. They had two daughters, Emily K. Gill and Claire V. Bondietti.

Laura worked as a reserve Deputy Sheriff with Multnomah County, as well as in retail sales. She was a homemaker and mother who enjoyed sewing, jewelry making and was an avid rock-hound. Laura returned to school after 27 years and life’s detours and was successful in earning her Associate’s Degree. She was a member of Gladstone First Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, daughter, and parents, Laura is survived by three sisters: Carol Sherman, Janet Howard and Sally McClure; two brothers: Dave Sherman and Steve Sherman; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital or to Grama Ruth’s Playground, c/o Gladstone First Baptist church.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 21, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. at the Gladstone first Baptist Church.

Arrangements were made with Crown Memorial Center at the Milwaukie location.

Lula Jane Shoff

Lula Jane Shoff went to be with the Lord after a year long battle with lung cancer, on February 9, 2010. She was born on March 18, 1927 in Catoosa, Oklahoma, growing up in Oklahoma, moving to Oregon, living in Grand Ronde, Salem, Walla Walla WA, and most recently Peoria AZ. During her lifetime Lula was a shipyard welder, box factory worker, and a veneer plant worker. Lula was preceded in death by her parents, T.L. and Sarah Scudder, four brothers, four sisters, Buford Shoff, and son Roger Shoff. She is survived by four sons, Lyal of Salem, John of Keizer, Michael of Peoria AZ, Gordon of Glendale, AZ and five grandsons. Funeral services will be at Relevant Life Church, 1090 Fairview Ave SE, Salem, OR at 1:00 PM, Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, and Graveside service following funeral. Arrangements entrusted to Crown Memorial Center, Salem.

Delbert Murlin Ulsh
Nov. 11, 1933 – Feb. 5, 2010

Delbert Murlin Ulsh died late in the evening on Feb. 5, 2010. Delbert was born in Walsenburg, Colorado Nov. 11, 1933 to Frank & Lola (Frager) Ulsh. After high school, he joined the Marines, then married Cauleen Madison. He did many things over the years, but his last position was at Portland Bottling Company as a Line Mechanic with a machinist background.

Delbert is survived by his daughters; Debbie Pavlakis, Diana Brett & Delaine Ulsh, and his son; David Ulsh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cauleen and daughter, Darlene Mock in 2009. A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were by Crown Memorial Center – Portland.
