Dewey David Tipton
Dewey David Tipton, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (April 10, 2001) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. The memorial service will be held later. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
He was born March 10, 1918, in Jasper, Ala., the eldest of 16 children. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1944 from Alabama. On July 22, 1944, in Medford, he married Laura May Foster, who died in 1998.
Mr. Tipton served in the U.S. Army during World War II, at Camp White, and in the Asiatic Pacific campaign as a cook and sharpshooter.
He enjoyed music, and sang and played the guitar in small bands in the Valley. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Tom and Don, both Shady Cove; a brother, Ralph, Central Point, and 12 other siblings in Alabama; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Leah Reichman
The funeral for Leah Elinore Reichman will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Girdner Funeral Home, Yreka, Calif.
Mrs. Reichman, 87, died Tuesday (April 10, 2001) in Medford, of natural causes after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 4, 1913, in Montague, Calif., the daughter of Charles and Lydia Wright. She received a bachelor’s degree in music from Mills College in Oakland, Calif. On May 6, 1938, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Yreka, Calif., she married Paul Otto Reichman, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Reichman was a founder of the Montague Improvement Club, now the Valley Community Club. She wrote 10 histories covering her life, her husband’s, her parents, her grandparents, her husband’s parents and his grandparents.
She and her husband were world travelers and visited nearly every country in the world. Following her husband’s death, she traveled to Antarctica, Tibet, Africa, New Guinea, South America, the Far East, and the Middle East, and was a member of the million mile travel club.
She was a devout Christian.
Survivors include a nephew, Ellis Jones; two grand-nephews; and a grand-niece. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Virginia Jones.

Charlotte Mildred Forgey
Charlotte Mildred Forgey, 89, of Ashland, died Monday (April 9, 2001) at her home. No service is planned.
She was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Pomona, Calif., a daughter of Charles R. and Nellie (Whitacre) Roach. She attended California schools. On March 16, 1937, in Yuma, Ariz., she married Leonard Payne Forgey, who died in 1996. They moved to Ashland in 1962.
Mrs. Forgey was a homemaker. She was also an accomplished artist who did pastel portraits of Seri Indians of Senora, Mexico. Her art is known and respected in Mexico and the Southwestern United States.
She helped found and remained a member of the Club Deportivo, Bahis Kino, Senora, Mexico.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Vose, Ashland; a brother, Don Roach, Medford; a sister, Virginia Willis, Medford; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters; a brother and a great-granddaughter.

Jack Gordon Houser
Jack Gordon Houser, 77, of Grants Pass, died Monday (April 9, 2001) at Rose Haven Nursing Center in Roseburg. Private interment will be in Granite Hill Cemetery in Grants Pass.
He was born May 11, 1923, in Portland. He moved to Grants Pass after his military service.
Mr. Houser was a truck driver in the construction industry until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal.
Mr. Houser enjoyed animals and helping others.
Survivors include two sisters, Janet McCloud, Grants Pass, and Beverly Ashworth, Carson City, Nev.

Rose E. Loyd
A celebration of the life of Rose E. Loyd will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Medford.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Mrs. Loyd, 93, of Medford, died Sunday (April 8, 2001) at her home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund at Sacred Heart School, 449 S. Ivy, Medford, OR 97501.
She was born Rose Van Dyke on June 15, 1907, in Northport, N.Y. She received a degree in education from Columbia College. In 1931, in New York, she married Samuel J. Loyd, who died in 1981. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1967 from Virginia.
Mrs. Loyd was an elementary school teacher.
She enjoyed her school, church work and ministering to the sick.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat McMullen, Medford, and Nancy O’Shea, Springfield, Va.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson.
Friends may pay their respects at 6 p.m. Sunday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
Wendell Dean Sause
Wendell Dean Sause, 58, of Central Point, died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at his home. A private service will be held later.
He was born March 24, 1943, in Tillamook, a son of William and Betty Sause. He attended schools in Newberg. He lived in Eugene in the late 1960s, and in Portland from 1971 to 1976, when he moved to the Rogue Valley. On Sept. 12, 1992, in Redstone, Colo., he married Cathy Kruse, who survives.
In Ashland, Mr. Sause owned Papa D’s Pizza, built and started Ashland Woodworks in 1978, and The Breadboard in 1981. He also built the Lube Express in Medford, which was the first quick lube and oil change business in the area, and the Oil Stop and Crater Car Wash on Crater Lake Highway in Medford.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967.
Mr. Sause enjoyed motorcross racing in the Willamette Valley in the 1960s and ’70s, architecture and creating businesses.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Andrea Fletcher, Medford, and Kristi Booth, Kaiser; his mother, Betty Hansen, Cornelius; two brothers, John, Medford, and Larry, Newberg; a sister, Virginia Horton, Soda springs, Idaho; and one grandson.

Fred Bachman
Fred Bachman, 96, of Medford, died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at his home. A private service will be held later. Interment will be in Newcastle District Cemetery in Newcastle, Calif.
He was born Oct. 18, 1904, in Switzerland. In 1931, in Montecito, Calif., he married Mathilda Braungart, who died in 1989. During World War II, he moved to Marin County, Calif., from Santa Barbara, Calif., living in Larkspur and Kentfield. In the early 1970s, he moved to Loomis, Calif., where he lived for 20 years before moving to Sonoma, Calif. He moved to Medford in 1998.
Mr. Bachman was a landscaping contractor.
He was a member of the Wally Byam Air Stream Travel Club for many years, and enjoyed traveling with his many friends.
Survivors include his companion, Ginger Prebil, Medford; a daughter, Hildegard Meissen, Loomis, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Thomas E. Stephenson
The graveside service for Thomas Earl Stephenson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Logtown Cemetery. The Rev. Bill McDonald of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. A reception will follow at 3139 Corey Road, near White City. The family held a private service on March 1 on the shores of Long Beach, a place he visited daily.
Mr. Stephenson, 65, of Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Medford, died Feb. 21, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was born Aug. 13, 1935, in Ashland, a son of Earl L. and Margaret (McCarvel) Stephenson. He grew up in Medford and graduated from Crater High School in 1953. In 1958, he married Judy Stowe. They later divorced.
Mr. Stephenson enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1956, and served as a water treatment specialist for 10 years.
In 1966, he moved to San Franciso, where he worked a few years with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. For several years after that, he was the regional claims adjuster at Hilton Hotel Corp. In 1984, he retired and moved to Sacramento, Calif. He moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1995.
Mr. Stephenson enjoyed traveling abroad and collecting antiques.
Survivors include three sons, Kevin, Belmont, Calif., Mark, Lodi, Calif., and Brad, White City; a daughter, Margaret Cherrix, Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Earl R., Portland; two sisters, Mavis Hartley, White City and Janet Miller, Mossyrock, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.
