Mae Pruitt Cox

The memorial service for Mae Pruitt Cox will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Church of the Nazarene in Woodland, Calif.

Mrs. Cox, 78, of Medford, died Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) at a local foster care home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Asante Hospice Foundation, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504, or Caring Hands Foster Care, 3201 Delta Waters, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born March 3, 1922, in Baxter County, Ark., a daughter of William Henry and Lela Lethena Pruitt. Her teen years were spent in the Oroville, Calif., area, where she met her husband. On July 5, 1940, in Carson City, Nev., she married Lee Roy Cox, who died in 1975. Formerly of Madison, Calif., she lived in the Grants Pass/Murphy area for 28 years. She moved to Medford in 1998.

Mrs. Cox started the Widows and Widower’s Club of Grants Pass. She was also a member of the Grants Pass Bowling Team.

She enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling, gardening and reading.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Elaine Grant, Medford; a son, Loyd Eugene, Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Bennie Harold Pruitt, Oroville, Calif.; four sisters, Daisy Irene Lee, Woodland, Calif., Rosalee Jackman, Marysville, Calif., Ellen Kalinoff, Modesto, Calif., and Anna Lee Wertz, Yerington, Nev.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Violet; and two brothers, Floyd and Lloyd.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Russell Hunter Gray

The graveside service for Russell Hunter Gray will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Jim Larson of Church of Christ, Ashland, will officiate.

Mr. Gray, 77, of Central Point, died Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) at a local foster care.

He was born March 17, 1923, in New Bedford, Mass. On Feb. 28, 1966, in Long Beach, Calif., he married Patricia Wood, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from Santa Rosa, Calif.

Mr. Gray was a telephone sales manager for A.D.C.O. in California.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945.

Mr. Gray enjoyed motor homing and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two brothers, Don, in New Jersey, and Robert Sarasota, Fla.

Annette Dale

The funeral service for Annette Dale will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. Don Baker of Ashland Christian Fellowship will officiate. Interment will follow in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mrs. Dale, 95, of Ashland, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at a Medford foster home.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Ronald Lee Marvin

The memorial service for Ronald Lee Marvin will be at 1 p.m. today at Central Valley Chapel. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Marvin, 38, of Grants Pass, formerly of Central Point, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at his home.

He was born April 1, 1962, in Ainsworth, Neb., a son of Kenneth and Joan Dutton Marvin. He graduated from Crater High School in Central Point. On Nov. 28, 1992, in Medford, he married Robin, who survives.

Mr. Marvin was a tile setter in construction. Except for five years in Grants Pass, he lived in the Rogue Valley all his life.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Jessica and Jennifer Marvin, both Eugene; a stepdaughter, Danyell Stanfield, Grants Pass; his mother, Joan Marvin, Central Point; his father and stepmother, Kenneth and Connie Marvin, Central Point; a brother, Don, Grants Pass; a sister, Karin Wicks, Central Point; and his grandmother, Mabel Marvin, Gettysburg, S.D.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Elizabeth Marie Malloy

The funeral service for Elizabeth Marie Malloy will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Central Valley Chapel, Central Point. Interment will be in Doss Cemetery in Mossyrock, Wash.

Mrs. Malloy, 87, of Medford, Gold Hill and Seiad Valley, Calif., died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 4, 1913, in Enterprise, a daughter of Ora and Eva Makin Graham. In January 1957, in Reno, Nev., she married John C. Malloy, who preceded her in death. She had lived in the Medford-Gold Hill area since 1970.

Mrs. Malloy was a waitress. She also worked in the meat packing industry, and she and her husband owned and operated a general store in Seiad Valley, Calif., for a number of years.

She was a member of Gold Hill Grange No. 534, and the Gold Hill Leisure Club.

Mrs. Malloy enjoyed sewing, quilting, yard sales and spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son, Joe. W. Coleman, White City; two daughters, Evalyn M. Parker, Ranier, and Sue E. Layman, Morton, Wash.; a sister, Donna M. Manriques, Woodburn; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Don, Bay and Bob Graham.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Central Valley Chapel, Central Point.

Gustave ‘Gus’ Johnson

The funeral service for Gustave "Gus" Johnson will be at noon Saturday at Perl Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Arbee Freeman of Family Christian Center, Medford, will officiate.

Mr. Johnson, 83, of Medford, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 1, 1917, in Silverton, a son of Ed and Laura Johnson. He attended Salem High School and the University of Oregon. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1939 from Salem. On April 29, 1939, in Vancouver, Wash., he married Zetta Ann Dean, who survives.

Mr. Johnson enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1937. He returned to service in 1942, and completed Officers Candidate School as a second lieutenant. He served in the South Pacific until 1945, and was wounded at Guadalcanal. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Japan, Alaska, and at various U.S. bases. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1964.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Prineville, the Shriners in Ashland, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Medford. He was also a member of the Cedar Links Men’s Club.

Mr. Johnson was an avid golfer. He enjoyed travel, bowling and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Eric, Portland; a brother, Melvin L., Woodburn; a sister, Ruth Fletcher, Salem; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jay Dean; a brother, Ole; and three sisters, Mabel Erickson, Edna Bergner, and Alta Dolan.

Maxine J. Hammar

The memorial service for Maxine J. Hammar will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Medford. Dr. Ralph Wilson will officiate.

Mrs. Hammar, 83, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at her home.

She was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Minneapolis, the daughter of John and Caroline Jacobson. On Sept. 17, 1938, in Minneapolis, she married David Hammar, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1996 from Honolulu.

Mrs. Hammar was a member of the First Baptist Church, Medford. The Bible was her favorite book.

She enjoyed history, and playing the piano and organ.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, John, Thomson, Ga., and James, St. Paul, Minn.; two daughters, Sharon Waterhouse, Eagle Point, and Mary Jo Ayers, Anaheim, Calif.; a brother, John W. Jacobson, Alamo, Texas; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Grambert.

Leta Clark

The graveside service for Leta Clark will be at 3 p.m. today at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Clark, 94, former longtime resident of Medford, died Monday (Feb. 12, 2001) at her home in Neskowin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Leta Kent on March 11, 1906, in Drain. She attended Oregon State College. In 1944, in Paducah, Ky., she married William T. "Big Bill" Clark, who died in 1978. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1955.

Mrs. Clark was a homemaker. She moved to Neskowin in 1995.

She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega at Oregon State College, and was a member of Zuleima Temple No. 13 of the Daughters of the Nile, where she was Queen in 1970-1971. In 1975-1976, she was appointed to the Supreme Temple and was the escort to the American flag. She was a charter member of the Rogue Valley Nile Club, and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Rogue Valley Country Club.

Mrs. Clark enjoyed gardening and providing flowers from her garden for Daughters of the Nile functions as well as Rogue Valley Country Club functions.

Survivors include a son, Tom, Neskowin; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas.
