Robert Gene Anderson

A memorial service for Robert Gene Anderson will be held on Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at 1 p.m. at the Medford Rifle & Pistol Club, 1253 Vilas Rd., Central Point. Rev. Lou Schneider of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate.

Mr. Anderson, 70, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Hearthstone Manor in Medford.

Mr. Anderson was born on March 14, 1930 in Beltrami, Minn., a son of Selmer and Anna Mary Anderson. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1974 from Salem.

An athlete, Mr. Anderson lettered in football and in track where he was team captain. He was also the honorary All-Star captain of the West Central Minnesota League where he was affectionately known as "the red-headed southpaw."

Mr. Anderson joined the U.S. Army in 1951 as an amphibious engineer with duty stations primarily in Panama and Newfoundland. He was discharged in 1954 after achieving the rank of technical sergeant.

After attaining a B.S. in forestry from the University of Idaho in 1958, Mr. Anderson became a forester with the Bureau of Land Management. He retired in May 1994.

Mr. Anderson was a life member of the NRA, was one of the region’s top skeet shooters and was inducted into Oregon’s Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame. He also was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Skeet Shooting Association.

Survivors include a brother, David Anderson, Friday Harbor, Wash.; two sisters, Marilyn Gasman, Olympia, Wash., and Sharon Preston, Bedford, N.H.

Cora "Ethel" Thompson

The memorial service for Cora "Ethel" Thompson will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Talent United Methodist Church. Pastor Alice Knotts will officiate.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Perl Funeral Home Chapel, in Medford.

Mrs. Thompson, 81, of Talent, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) at Ashland Community Hospital.

She was born Cora Walker, Dec. 26, 1919 in Bloomington, Ind., to Andrew and Edna Walker.

On Nov. 17, 1938, in Bloomington, Ind. she married Lonnie Nicholson, who died in 1956.

On Nov. 5, 1958, in Reno, she married David Brabbin who died in 1983.

On April, 16, 1995, in Talent, she married Russell D. Thompson, who survives.

Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, spending time with family and friends, playing the organ and singing.

She was a member of the Talent Garden Club and the Talent United Methodist Church, where she had served as secretary and bookkeeper.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Larry Nicholson, Phoenix; a daughter, Cathy Parsons, Medford; eight stepchildren; a brother, George Walker, Indiana; two sisters, Margaret West, Indiana, and Frances Deckard, Florida; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by a son, Del Nicholson; a grandson, Cody Nicholson; two brothers, Robert and Glen Walker; and three sisters, Marie Walker, Ida Bell Pelley, and Louise Lake.

Floyd Nunnelee

A graveside service for Floyd Nunnelee will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Walter Whipkey of Worldwide Church of God will officiate.

Mr. Nunnelee, 79, of Medford, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at Farmington Square Assisted Living.

He was born Feb. 4, 1922 in Ratcliff, Ark. to Earnest and Mittie Nunnelee.

On May 4, 1946, in Yuma, Ariz., he married Marie Shelton, who survives.

Mr. Nunnelee moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from Somis, Calif.

He served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II and worked for the SeaBee Naval base in Port Hueneme, Calif. as a boiler engineer, retiring in 1984.

He served with the 142nd Field Artillery during World War II.

Mr. Nunnelee enjoyed traveling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Beverly Bogard, Central Point, and Candace Lopez, Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, SulaMae Tolbert, Glen Pool, Okla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Nunnelee was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Thomas Nathan Coy

The funeral for Thomas Nathan Coy will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Pierce Chapel, 707 H St., Eureka, Calif. Tom Culbert will officiate. A private graveside service will be held later in Ettersburg, Calif.

Mr. Coy, 86, of Eureka, Calif., formerly of Medford, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) in Eureka. He was able to spend several years at his Ettersburg property before failing health brought him to Eureka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the 4-H Trail Handicap Riding Program, 349 Stagecoach Road, Trinidad, CA 95570.

A native of Climax, he grew up and attended school in Medford before moving to Eureka.

Mr. Coy owned and operated a heavy equipment business for several years.

He was a life member of the Northern California Horsemen’s Association and the California State Horsemen’s Association, and participated in numerous horse shows, either as a contestant or working on the event. He also supported the Pegasus Patrol, a youth equestrian group.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, Eureka; a daughter, Sherry Pettit, Arcata, Calif.; three sons, Mike, Sanger, Calif., Gary, Eureka, and Randy, Chico, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy McDougall, Central Point, and Lucille Merrifield, Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wannaleah; and a brother, Sammy T.

Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Pierce Mortuary Chapels/Pierce Chapel, Eureka, Calif.

Chester W. Thomason

The graveside service for Chester William Thomason will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jacksonville Cemetery.

Mr. Thomason, 66, of Central Point, died Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 203, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born March 25, 1934, in Arkansas, the son of Mack and Aggie Thomason. On Feb. 7, 1956, in Tijuana, Mexico, he married Jean Lee, who survives.

Mr. Thomason was a psychiatric tech for the state of California for 25 years. He moved to the Rogue Valley 10 years ago from Strathmore, Calif. He lived in Porterville, Calif. for 50 years.

He was a member of the Medford Bowling League.

Mr. Thomason was a master snooker player and enjoyed bowling, cards and games.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Wade, Tracy, Calif.; a daughter, Caroline Ebeling, Porterville; a sister, Sue Cunningham, Farmersville, Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Central Valley Chapel, Central Point.

Margaret L. Brenner

The memorial service for Margaret L. Brenner will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Brenner, 79, of Medford, died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Douglas, Kan. On June 6, 1956, in Medford, she married Delbert "Bert" Brenner, who died in 1986. They moved to Medford in 1956.

Mrs. Brenner was a cashier and clerk, with her husband, from 1956 to 1972 at B & B Auction.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Mrs. Brenner enjoyed the outdoors, sewing and dancing.

Survivors include two sons, Larry McCammon and Sam Harrison, both Medford; a brother, Charles Harrison, Letham, Kan.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer, Jerry, Robert and Everett Harrison.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
