Willard W. Sloper
The graveside service for Willard W. Sloper will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Sloper, 89, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2001) at a foster home.
He was born Jan. 24, 1911, in Pedee. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1926. On June 19, 1937, in Medford, he married Ruby M. Herman, who died in 1969.
Mr. Sloper was a trim saw operator for a lumber mill in Prospect. He then worked for Medford Corporation for 32 years, retiring in 1975.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and sports.
Survivors include a son, Gary, Ruch; two daughters, Patricia Campfield, Central Point, and Candi Roberts, Gold Beach; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold; and a sister, Delores Olsen.

Betty Jane Neel
The funeral for Betty Jane Neel will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Pastor Chris White of Trail Christian Fellowship will officiate. Private interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Neel, 79, of Sams Valley, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Tillamook, a daughter of George and Ada Handy. She attended Medford schools beginning with the first grade at Washington Elementary and graduating from Medford High School in 1940. On March 22, 1941, in Medford, she married Robert Daniel Neel, who died in 1990.
Mrs. Neel began working in the local fruit industry as a teenager, and continued to work seasonally until her retirement at age 65. She also worked in the Rogue Valley Manor dining area for several years during its early operation.
She collected and displayed family photographs, some dating back to the 1800s.
Mrs. Neal enjoyed gardening, flowers and reading, especially Oregon history.
Survivors include two sons, Gary, Medford, and Larry, Sams Valley; three daughters, Janice Ayres and Linda Latimer, both Medford, and Alta Wright, Phoenix; three sisters, Georgia Coggins, Frankie Long and Juanita Kelsch, all Medford; one brother, Robert Handy, Medford; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Gary Carter
The funeral for Gary Carter will be at 3 p.m. today at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point. The Rev. Jim Clifford will officiate.
Mr. Carter, 52, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 8, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born March 21, 1948, in San Jose, Calif. On March 20, 1979, in Las Vegas, he married Jacquelene Marie Mazza, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley 10 years ago from the Los Angeles area.
Mr. Carter worked for VSS Emultech in White City.
He was known for his sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He also enjoyed the outdoors, playing pool and swimming.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Keith Anthony, Medford; three daughters, Kimberly Marie Carter, Medford, and Debbie Carter and Tammi Meyers, both San Pedro, Calif.; his father, Phil, Shady Cove; three sisters, Phyllis Henson, Newport Beach, Calif., Carol Michel, Harbor City, Calif., and Chris Wilson, Bath, S.C.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Erma; and a brother, Bob.
Friends may pay their respects following the service.

Thelma Mae Peters
Thelma Mae Peters, 85, of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at her son’s home. A private service will be held later.
She was born June 13, 1915, in Supply, Okla.
Mrs. Peters was an office worker in the medical field for 45 years. She moved to the Rogue Valley 20 years ago from Colorado.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Peters enjoyed crafts and travel.
Survivors include two sons, Glen Allison, Medford, and Robert Allison, in Arizona; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rex Allison; her second husband, Everett Dickinson; her third husband, Fred Peters; and a daughter, Darlene Boat, in 1980.

Charles Elliott Decker
The memorial service for Charles Elliott Decker will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Gold Hill Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Mike Genaw will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Decker, 82, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2001) in Central Point.
He was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Rochester, Ind. On Oct. 8, 1946, in South Bend, Ind., he married Gloria Barnard, who died in 1993.
Mr. Decker was a postal clerk in Escondido, Calif., for 31 years. He retired in 1975. He moved to the Rogue Valley 21 years ago from California.
He enjoyed gardening, rock hunting and the outdoors.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Elliott III, Central Point, David, Applegate, and Greg, Escondido, Calif.; a daughter, Kathleen Waters, Ruch; two brothers, Carl, Fresno, Calif., and Richard, Valparaiso, Ind.; three sisters, Jane Mundy, Wichita, Kan., Helen McFeely, Poway, Calif., and Ruth Guise, Decatur, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ronald Albert Vinatieri
The memorial service for Ronald Albert Vinatieri will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.
Mr. Vinatieri, 66, of Rogue River, died Jan. 4, 2001, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 31, 1934, in Yankton, S.D., the son of A.B. and Myrna Vinatieri. On June 25, 1960, in Oxnard, Calif., he married Sylvia Cloud. They later divorced.
Mr. Vinatieri worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Oxnard, Calif. From 1954-1968. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1968, where he worked as a mail carrier for the Medford Post Office until his retirement in 1989.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship USS Bremerton during the Korean War. He received a Korean Presidential Unit Citation, a China Service Medal of Honor, a Korean Service Medal of Honor and three National Defense Service Medals of Honor.
Mr. Vinatieri raised hybrid wolves. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his animals.
Survivors, include his former wife, Sylvia L. Vinatieri, Medford; four daughters, Teresa L. Williams, Rogue River, Rebecca L. Vinatieri, Medford, Katherine E. Vinatieri, Union City, Calif., and Jenny M. Scarantino, Corinth, Miss.; a son, Daniel A., Rogue River; and 10 grandchildren.

Verna Madelynn Davis
The memorial service for Verna Madelynn Davis will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Garfield in Medford. Brother Randy Mattingly will officiate. Interment will be in New Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Calif.
Mrs. Davis, 90, of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at her home.

She was born Oct. 26, 1910, in Bellingham, Wash. On Oct. 10, 1936, in Ferndale, Wash., she married Wesley Davis, who died in 1973. She moved to the Rogue Valley in July 2000 from Auburn, Calif.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the South Medford congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include a daughter, Deanna Tipton, Medford; a brother, Waldo Anderson, Bellingham, Wash.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
