Gary W. Bernhardt

The memorial service for Gary W. Bernhardt will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trail Christian Fellowship.

Mr. Bernhardt, 58, of Eagle Point, died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Bernhardt Memorial Scholarship Fund for Eagle Point High School, c/o Western Bank, 133 W. Main St., Eagle Point, OR 97524.

He was born Oct. 6, 1942, in Long Island, N.Y.. He received a bachelor’s degree in education in 1966 from Oregon State University.

In December 1965, in Portland, he married Dianne Keckler, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1967 from Corvallis.

Mr. Bernhardt was the owner and operator of D & G Construction. He also taught school at Eagle Point High School for nine years, and was head wrestling coach for six years. During that time, his team won five district championships and the 1975 wrestling team took second in State. His coaching also produced five individual state champion wrestlers.

He served on the Eagle Point City Council for 12-15 years.

Mr. Bernhardt enjoyed gold mining, camping, athletic events at Eagle Point High School, and being outdoors.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Dale James, Aloha; two daughters, Misty Lee Bernhardt, Eagle Point, and Sherri Lee Rutherford, Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Gail Jensen, in Florida; and two brothers, Phillip and Dave, both White City.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Roy Aaron Milton

The memorial service for Roy Aaron Milton will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Rogue River Assembly of God.

Mr. Milton, 88, of Rogue River, died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue River Rural Fire Department, P.O. Box 1170, Rogue River, OR 97537.

He was born June 13, 1912, in Rogue River. He graduated from Rogue River High School in 1930. In 1940, in Reno, Nev., he married Cleo M. Phillips, who died in 1994.

Mr. Milton worked for Milton Logging Company and Main Building Supply, retiring at age 82.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist’s mate, second class.

Mr. Milton was a member of the Rogue River Fire Department for 48 years. He was also a member of the Rogue River Relics, as well as a Mason for 43 years, and a member of the American Legion for 14 years.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Cookie Mullineaux, Smith River, Calif., and Adria Lynne Milton, Muskegon, Mich.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Arrangements: Southern Oregon Cremation Services.

Dorothy Helen Prickett

Dorothy Helen Prickett, 86, of Medford, died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000) in Medford. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 330, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Dorothy Helen Althen on Aug. 2, 1914, in Elgin, Ill. On Nov. 28, 1937, in Elgin, she married Douglas Prickett, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley three years ago from Napa, Calif., where she and her husband had lived for 14 years.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Patricia Prickett, San Jose, Calif.; a son, John D., Elgin; three brothers, David Althen, Santa Maria, Calif., Jim Althen, Yellville, Ark., and Bill Althen, in Wisconsin; two sisters, Lucille Kerber and Ruth Steffan, both Mountain Home, Ark.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

James Derald Wooton

The memorial service for James Derald Wooton will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford. Pastor Robert L. Larson will officiate. Private interment will be at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mr. Wooton, 66, of Medford, died Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000) while on a hunting trip with his brother, sons and friends in the Eagle Cap Wilderness area.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catherine Freer Wilderness Therapy Expeditions, P.O. Box 1064, Albany, OR 97321.

He was born Dec. 27, 1933, in Industry, Kan. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1935. On Sept. 1, 1979, in Medford, he married Ruth Mattos, who survives.

Mr. Wooton played baseball in the Dodgers organization for six years, and was recently inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame. He was a longtime real estate broker.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Mr. Wooton enjoyed his family, hunting, rafting and golf.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Randy Wooton, Medford, and Michael Wooton, Newberg, Greg Mattos, Vancouver, Wash., and Steve Mattos, Tigard; two daughters, Deralyn Pillow, Portland, and Dana Toma, Dallas; three brothers, Dick, Tom and Dan, all Medford; two sisters, Sharon Case, Talent, and Linda Dowdy, San Diego; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Henry Seligman

Henry Seligman, 93, of Wilderville, died Saturday (Nov. 4, 2000) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 23, 1907, in New York, a son of Jacob and Pauline Seligman. In 1933, in New York City, he married Helen Friedman, who died in 1951. He moved to Oregon in 2000 from Petaluma, Calif.

He enjoyed playing sports.

Survivors include two sons, Mark, Selma, and Chet, in California; a brother, Sol, in California; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives.

Phyllis M. Mason

The funeral for Phyllis M. Mason will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Mrs. Mason, 75, of Medford, died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 2000) at her home.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

A. Wayne Oliver

The memorial service for A. Wayne Oliver will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday at 520 N. Holly St. Medford.

Mr. Oliver, 49, of Medford, died Oct. 3, 2000, at Fourth and Holly streets in Medford.

He was born Sept. 2, 1951, in Atlanta. Mr. Oliver attended Florida State College. He was a member of DASIL, and enjoyed tutoring children and adults.

Survivors include a sister, Jeanett Oliver. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ben.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Elmer Eugene Denney

The memorial service for Elmer Eugene "Gene" Denney will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God in Medford. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery in White City.

Mr. Denney, 65, of Sams Valley, died Saturday (Oct. 28, 2000) outside of Ashland.

He was born March 2, 1935, in Santa Ana, Calif. On Nov. 5, 1954, he married Betty Dierberger of Anaheim, Calif., who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1968 and have lived in Sams Valley for 30 years.

Mr. Denney worked with the city of Medford Public Works Department for 24 years, retiring in June 1997. He drove the street sweeper in Medford for many years.

He was a member of the Eagle Point Assembly of God for 29 years and served as a deacon for many years.

Mr. Denney enjoyed helping people and was active in many remodeling and building projects for his church and his friends. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Kevin, Central Point; a daughter, Dellane Wilbur, Nampa, Idaho; four brothers, Elden, Garden Grove, Calif., John, Riverside, Calif., Earl, Crestline, Calif., and Dale, Chico, Calif.; two sisters, Lorine Kerns and Malzena Bentley, both Placentia, Calif.; and three granddaughters.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.
