Bessie Louise Fields

The memorial service for Bessie Louise Fields will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home in Grants Pass. Pastor Mike Crisp of the Church of Christ, Grants Pass, will officiate.

Mrs. Fields, 86, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Sept. 19, 2000) at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, c/o Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, 141 N.W. C St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

She was born March 2, 1914, in Santa Ana, Calif., a daughter of Martin and Ivy House. The family moved to the Grants Pass area when she was 5.

On May 8, 1941, in Grants Pass, she married Harland Fields, who survives.

The Fields owned and operated Fields Jewelry store in Grants Pass for many years.

Mrs. Fields enjoyed painting and crocheting.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a sister, Blanche Bennett, in Washington. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael.

Virginia L. Tierney

Virginia L. Tierney, 80, of Hillsboro, formerly of Phoenix, died Tuesday (Sept. 19, 2000) in Hillsboro. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Virginia Perrin on Nov. 30, 1919, in Hermiston.

On April 29, 1940, she married Robert Tierney, who died in 1997.

Mrs. Tierney was a voucher clerk with the U.S. Forest Service, retiring in 1973. She lived in Phoenix from 1990-1997.

Survivors include a son, Don, Beaverton; a daughter, Barbara Sue Wait, Tacoma, Wash.; a brother, Herb Perrin, Portland; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ron; and two brothers, Don and Robert Perrin.

Arrangements: Telophase Cremation Services, Portland.

Truitt Cantrall

Truitt Cantrall, 91, of Bend, died Sunday (Sept. 17, 2000) at a care facility in Bend. The memorial service will be held later. Inurnment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Historical Society, 106 N. Central Ave., Medford, OR 97501, or the Food and Friends Program, for the Lions Sight and Hearing meal site, P.O. Box 3275, Central Point, OR 97502..

He was born May 25, 1909, in Uniontown, the son of John Jr. and Osie (Saltmarsh) Cantrall, a pioneer family in the Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon.

Mr. Cantrall attended schools in Ruch and Jacksonville. He graduated from Medford High School and Southern Oregon Normal School, now Southern Oregon University, in Ashland.

In 1930, he married Annie Jean Speirs. Following her death, he moved to Bend in 1999.

Mr. Cantrall worked for Timber Products Co. in Medford for 43 years. He began his career in the box factory and advanced to accountant before retiring in 1974.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific for 2˝ years.

Mr. Cantrall was a former member of the Shrine, Masons, Elks, Eagles and the Southern Oregon Historical Society.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorene Fisher, Sisters; a son, John, Lebanon; a sister, Norma Chrysler, Eugene; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gail Johnston; and a brother, Emmett.

Arrangements: Autumn Funerals, Bend.

John Richard Caine

John Richard Caine, 52, of Gold Hill, died Aug. 28, 2000, while on vacation in Estes Park, Colo. No service is planned. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Emergency Lodge, 1065 Crews Road, Medford, OR 97501, or the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.

He was born April 28, 1948, in Bristol, Conn., and attended schools in Connecticut. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

Mr. Caine was retired. He enjoyed camping and the outdoors.

Survivors include his former wife, Mona Caine, Central Point; a stepson, Scott E. McCollum, Central Point; a stepdaughter, Robyn L. McCollum, Central Point; and a brother, Jim, Bristol, Conn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Arrangements: Allnut Funeral — Estes Park Chapel, Estes Park, Colo.

Ruth Vance

The graveside service for Ruth Vance will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Phoenix Cemetery. The Rev. Robert L. Larson of Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford will officiate.

Mrs. Vance, 94, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 16, 2000) in a foster care home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born April 26, 1906, in Virginia, a daughter of John and Kathryn (Krunkelton) Stone.

On Jan. 6, 1926, in Hoquiam, Wash., she married Lewis David Vance, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1929 from Montesano, Wash.

Mrs. Vance sorted pears for Myron & Root Packing Company in Medford for 20 years.

She enjoyed gardening and homemaking.

Survivors include three sons, Norman, Jack and Richard, all Medford; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mac and Sam Stone; three sisters, Ann Stone, Geneva Romane and Bessie Hendrickson; one grandson; and two great-grandsons.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Michael Edward Sheridan

Michael Edward Sheridan, 51, of Gold Hill, died Friday (Sept. 15, 2000) at his home. A private service is planned.

He was born July 21, 1949, in Vallejo, Calif. He attended John Swett High School in Crockett, Calif., and Rogue Community College in Grants Pass. He moved to the Rogue Valley seven years ago.

Mr. Sheridan was an electronic assembler at Tyco Electronics in White City.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Sheridan was an avid 49ers fan and enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors.

Survivors include a son, Brian Conway, Vacaville, Calif.; a brother, Robert, Antioch, Calif.; and a sister, Pamela Whitworth, Rodeo, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neil K. and Thelma Sheridan.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Mildred Ellen Clouser

The memorial service for Mildred Ellen Clouser will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Deer Creek Cemetery in Selma. Pastor Stan Johnson of West Main Church of Christ in Medford will officiate.

Mrs. Clouser, 90, of Goleta, Calif., formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Sept. 1, 2000, at her home.

She was born Mildred Joyner on May 3, 1910, in Helena, Okla.

On May 10, 1931, in Clovis, N.M., she married Clarence C. Clouser, who died in 1982.

Mrs. Clouser was a homemaker. She moved to the Applegate in 1971 from Goleta, Calif. She returned to Goleta in 1983.

She was a member of the Federated Church.

Survivors include two sons, Robert D., Goleta, Calif., and Richard E., Fresno, Calif.; a daughter, Alice Roehrman, Camarillo, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Jr.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
