Bonnie Lucille Johnson

The graveside service for Bonnie Lucille Johnson will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Johnson, 89, of Medford, died Friday (July 7, 2000) at her home.

She was born Bonnie Lucille Benson on Nov. 6, 1910 in Spokane, Wash.

On Oct. 12, 1928, in Baker, she married Neal Eugene Taylor. who died in April, 1957.

They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1949 from Baker.

In December, 1980, in Medford, she married Leonard Johnson. They later divorced.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Social Benefits Club and the Enid Rankin Senior Center. She enjoyed playing pinochle, dancing and needlework.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jean Raynor and Sherill Jane Johnson, both of Medford; a sister, Girtha Walker of Kennewick, Wash.; a brother, Benjamin Bainbridge of Ashton, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee Taylor, in 1974 and a sister, Louise Youncs, in 1956.

The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to Three Angels Broadcasting Network, P.O. Box 220, West Frankfort, Ill. 62896.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Leonard E. Clary

Former Phoenix resident Leonard E. Clary, 79, of Medford, died Thursday (July 6, 2000) at his home. No service is planned. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

Born April 14, 1921 in Parma, Idaho to Earl and Ethel Clary, he served in the Navy during World War II. He moved to Wolf Creek in 1957 from Lewiston, Idaho. He moved to Medford in 1987 and later lived in Phoenix.

He was a heavy equipment operator for the Josephine County Road Department until he was disabled in 1967.

He was president of the Eagles in Medford, and was twice president of the Eagles in Grants Pass.

In addition to raising horses, he made jewelry and enjoyed fishing, raising flowers and being with his daughters and granddaughter.

Survivors include daughters Leona L. Clary of Murphy and Clydie Fricke of Grants Pass; granddaughter Nicole Fricke of Grants Pass and cousin Maxine Ferrell of Grants Pass.

A daughter, Eva L. Clary, preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home.

Roberta Jean Wright

Roberta Jean Wright, 55, of Medford, died Friday (July 6, 2000) at Hearthstone. A private service was held.

She was born on Dec. 29, 1944, in Allegheny, Pa., to Paul and Dorothy (Baker) Wagner.

On May 9, 1980, in Clark County, Nev., she married Marvin James Wright, who died.

Ms. Wright was a parking attendant at the Los Angeles County airport. She enjoyed cross stitching, motorcycle riding and making radio control boats.

Survivors include two sisters, Patricia Wright of Phoenix and Virginia Roppo of Baden, Pa.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary.

Alice B. Faler Lilly

The graveside service for Alice Beryl Faler Lilly will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mrs. Lilly, 86, of Central Point died Friday (July 7, 2000) at her home.

She was born Sept. 17, 1913, in Hutchinson, Kan., to Cressy Leroy King and Alice Winona (Burgess) King. When she was a young girl, her family moved to Red Bluff, Calif., where she graduated high school.

On July 1, 1934, she married David Lee Faler, who died in 1976. On March 11, 1978, in Reno, Nev., she married Don Lilly, who died in 1990.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, card-playing and reading.

Survivors include one son, Henry Faler, Medford; one daughter, Donna Lee Williams, White City; two step-daughters, Jean Lindahl and Joan Kinney, both of Medford; two step-sons, Keith Lilly, Grants Pass, and Bob Lilly, Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Edwards, on Jan. 4, 2000, brothers Glen and Donald, and step-son David Lilly.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen, Ashland.

Eleanore Helen Johnson

Eleanore Helen Johnson, 83, of Central Point, died Sunday (July 2, 2000) at her daughter’s home in Ashland. The memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund, 111 Clay St., Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born May 30, 1917, in Scottsbluff, Neb., a daughter of James and Nancy Dumply.

She married Ralph Rolland Johnson, who died in 1987.

Mrs. Johnson was a nurse at Crater Osteopathic Hospital for many years.

She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Nevita Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Central Point.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Louise Albright, Ashland; two sons, James Gary, Sacramento, Calif., and Robert Russell, Fullerton, Calif.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Harry Harland Lowe Jr.

Harry Harland Lowe Jr., 87, of Talent, died Monday (July 3, 2000) at his home. A private celebration of his life will be held. His ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean by the U.S. Coast Guard.

He was born May 14, 1913, in McMinnville, a son of Harry H. and Mae Low. He moved to Talent in the 1920s and graduated from Talent High School in 1932. His home in Talent was originally settled in 1864 by his great-grandfather, Henry Wilcox, and has remained in the family since that time. He had viewed Charles Lindberg’s flight over the Rogue Valley after Lindberg’s New York to Paris flight and that led to his lifelong interest in airplanes and flying.

On June 26, 1954, in Warwick, England, he married Joan Beryl Ray, who survives.

Mr. Lowe joined the Army Air Corps in 1938, and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1961. He was a World War II veteran, serving in India, Burma, England the U.S. after World War II.

He also worked for Boeing and was among the crew that produced the first 747 aircraft, winning a design improvement award for its wing structure. He retired from Lockheed Aircraft in 1974.

Mr. Lowe won the Air Force Model Airplane World Championship in 1954.

He enjoyed world travel, flying, dancing and model airplane building.

Survivors, include his wife, Joan B. Lowe, Warwick, England; a daughter, Marilyn M. Lowe, Warwick, England; and a brother, Robert E. Lowe, Jacksonville.

James Platt Rowan

The memorial service for James Platt Rowan will be at 2 p.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Alan Jackson will officiate.

Mr. Rowan, 82, of Medford, died Wednesday (July 5, 2000) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504, or the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Drive, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Jan. 13, 1918, in Mobile, Ala.

On Nov. 8, 1941, in St. Louis, he married Margaret Johnston, who survives.

Mr. Rowan and his father formed Lee-Rowan Co., a St. Louis company that manufactured garment hangers and closet and bath accessories. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1953 from Portland.

After moving to the Rogue Valley, Mr. Rowan was a stockbroker and vice-president with Smith Barney, Harris Upham and Co.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on a destroyer during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Mr. Rowan served as Rogue Valley Medical Center’s board chairman for 14 years, retiring in 1989. In addition, he was the past president of the Medford YMCA board and the Rogue Valley Country Club and was on the board of the Rogue Opera. The Chamber of Commerce Medford/Jackson County honored him as 1993 Citizen of the Year. He also received the ASV Carpenter Award in 1990.

He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, the University Club and the Southern Oregon Tennis Club.

Mr. Rowan enjoyed golf, traveling, tennis and cycling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Rebecca Rowan Barry, Medford, and Mary Johnston Rowan, Portland; two sons, James Platt Jr., Milton-Freewater, and John Hays, Portland; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
