Rosemary ‘Rose’ J. Kier

Rosemary "Rose" J. Kier, 79, of Rogue River, died Friday (June 30, 2000) at her home. A private service was held.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504, or the Alzheimer’s Research Alliance of Oregon, P.O. Box 10051, Portland, OR 97296-0051.

She was born Rosemary Price on July 30, 1920, in Nowata, Okla.

On June 25, 1937, in Oklahoma City, she married Raymond Kier, who survives.

During World War II, Mrs. Kier worked in Phoenix, Ariz., building aircraft for the government. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1981 from Hayward, Calif.

She enjoyed painting.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Diane Earls, Rogue River, and Pat Kier, Grants Pass; a son, Don, in Texas; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

William ‘Bill’ Chaffee

A celebration of the life of William "Bill" Chaffee will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mr. Chaffee, 76, of Medford, died June 17, 2000, at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born April 26, 1924, in Madison, Maine.

On Aug. 28, 1948, in Evanston, Ill., he married Isla Eckard.

Mr. Chaffee was an accountant and a managing consultant. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Burbank, Calif., in 1989.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Chaffee was an avid reader. He enjoyed music, computers, playing bridge and poker and cigars.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Joe, Austintown, Ohio, and Casey, Lakewood, Colo.; a daughter, Sheryl Dianne Galway, Arleta, Calif.; and one grandson.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Ludo ‘Onnis’ Grieve

Ludo "Onnis" Grieve, 77, of Lebanon, formerly of Medford and Prospect, died June 26, 2000, at Villa Cascade Care Center. No public service is planned. His ashes will be scattered by his sons in the Crater Lake area.

He was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Medford, a son of John Ludo and Elizabeth (Manning) Grieve. He graduated from what is now Southern Oregon University and studied hydraulic engineering at Oregon State University.

Mr. Grieve was a member of the U.S. Forest Service ski patrol in the Crater Lake and Diamond Lake areas in the late 1930s.

On Nov. 26, 1943, in Oakland, Calif., he married Martha Gearhart, who survives.

Mr. Grieve was a hydrogenerator service technician for 37 years for Mountain Power Co., which became Pacific Power and Light Co. He retired in Albany.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in search and rescue in the Pacific Ocean.

Mr. Grieve enjoyed restoring old cars and building model airplanes.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Mike, Roseburg, Doug, Lebanon, and Gary, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; two daughters, Pat Cole, Sherwood, and Mary Ann Grieve, Salem; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Huston-Jost Funeral Home, Lebanon.

James Lee Pebworth Jr.

James Lee Pebworth Jr., 73, of Medford, died Tuesday (June 27, 2000) at his home. A private service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

He was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Konawa, Okla., a son of James and Mary (King) Pebworth Sr.

On Oct. 18, 1952, in Portales, N.M., he married Anna Lorene Pebworth, who survives.

Mr. Pebworth was a lifelong aircraft mechanic and flight instructor.

He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from California.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marines Corps.

Mr. Pebworth enjoyed camping and traveling to Reno, Nev.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Mike, Trail, Steven R., Medford, Terry, Vancouver, Wash., and James Lee III, Las Vegas; three daughters, Rhonda Jones, and Cynthia Lindquist, both Grants Pass, and Pamela Gibson, Republic, Mo.; a brother, Cecil, Mountain View, Calif.; three sisters, Wana Paulson, Cottonwood, Calif.; Oda Potts, in Oklahoma, and Dorothy, in Texas; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, and an infant grandson.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Ada Belle Gaines

The graveside service for Ada Belle Gaines will be at 11 a.m. today at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford. Pastor Wilbur Boatright of Upper Rogue Full Gospel Fellowship will officiate.

Mrs. Gaines, 84, of Eagle Point, died Thursday (June 29, 2000) at a foster home.

She was born Ada Thorton on Jan. 17, 1916, in Swenson, Texas.

On May 12, 1974, in Medford, she married Edward E. Gaines, who died in 1985.

She moved to the Rogue Valley 35 years ago.

Mrs. Gaines was a licensed practical nurse. She worked at Rogue Valley Medical Center and Hearthstone Manor.

She enjoyed flowers and going to the coast.

Survivors include a son, Billy C. Rutherford, Eagle Point; a daughter, Quanda Edwards, Central Point; three sisters, Dorothy Norman, Rome, Texas, Brunetta Burns, Boyd, Texas, and Delores Coleman, Duncan, Okla.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Rutherford, in 1972, two sons, William Rutherford and George E. Rutherford, two brothers, Dub and Duwayne Thorton, and a sister, Ellen Russell.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Natalie Harrison

The memorial service for Natalie Harrison will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Harrison, 81, of Eagle Point, died Sunday (July 2, 2000) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Klamath Falls Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1649, Klamath Falls, OR 97601.

She was born Natalie Leonard on April 2, 1919, in North Troy, Vt.

On Nov. 26, 1948, in New Haven, Conn., she married Frederick Harrison, who died in 1977. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1984.

During World War II, she worked at the Gorton, Conn., Submarine Yard, building submarines, .

She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary in Connecticut.

She enjoyed knitting, playing games and the outdoors.

Survivors include a daughter, Kit Ellingson, Klamath Falls; a son, Don Harrison, Eagle Point; a sister, Hazel Wing, of Vermont; a brother, Noyce Leonard, of New Hampshire; and two grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon, and a sister, Eva.
