Gladys Carlisle Dotts
A memorial service for Gladys Carlisle Dotts will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Southminster United Presbyterian Church in Arlington Heights, Ill. Inurnment will be at Acacia Park Cemetery in Chicago. No local services are planned.
Mrs. Dotts, 93, of Selma, died Saturday (May 27, 2000) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Dotts was born Gladys Spengler on Jan. 21, 1907 in Chicago, Ill. She graduated from the University of Chicago and taught elementary and junior high school there for 35 years. She moved from Chicago to Arlington Heights, Ill., in 1946 and from there to Selma in 1991 to live with her family.
Mrs. Dotts was a charter member of Southminster United Presbyterian Church in Arlington Heights. She also was a charter member and life member of the Northwest Community Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann C. Garnett of Selma and Susan M. Scappatura of Cromwell, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Dotts of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two stepsons, Harold Dotts of Northbrook, Ill, and Robert Dotts of Allison Park, Penn.; a sister, Dorothy Rowley Alexander of Carefree, Ariz.; one granddaughter, 10 step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward G. Carlisle, who died in 1961, and her second husband, Harold Dotts, who died in 1990.

Joseph E. Crutchfield
The memorial service for Joseph E. Crutchfield will be held Wednesday, May 31 at Rainbow Cove Resort on Clear Lake near Spokane, Wash.
Mr. Crutchfield, 32, died Friday (May 26, 2000) at his home in Spokane, Wash.
He was born Dec. 12, 1967 in San Diego, Calif. He attended South Medford High School.
Survivors include one daughter, Brittany Lane, Medford; two sons, Ryan and Nathan, Portland; three sisters, Janice Mucky, Eagle Point, Debra Murray, Florence, Jo Ann Wear, Spokane; three brothers, Gerald Jr., Jacksonville, Jeffrey and Greg, Spokane; his parents, Gerald and Sandy of Spokane.
Arrangements: Spokane Cremation and Burial Service.
Edward Hertzberg
Edward Hertzberg, 94, of Ashland, died Friday (May 26, 2000) at Farmington Square, Medford.

Mr. Hertzberg was born Sept. 18, 1905 in San Antonio, Texas.
In 1941 he married Joan Keller in New York, who survives.
Mr. Hertzberg served as an anthropologist for the U.S. Air Corps in W.W.II. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from Yellow Springs, Ohio.
He enjoyed studies in psychic phenomena and the environment.
Survivors include a son, Eric, Mountain View, Calif.; and his wife, Joan.
Mr. Hertzberg was preceded in death by a daughter, Ingred Hertzberg in 1966 and two sisters, Helene Simmang and Nola Feiler.

Patrick Ray Lawrence
The memorial service for Patrick Ray Lawrence will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St., Ashland.
Mr. Lawrence, 51, of Medford, died Friday (May 26, 2000) at his home.

He was born on July 13, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Los Angeles, Calif. in 1987.
Mr. Lawrence was a stained glass window designer and worked in electronics in Santa Clara, Calif. He enjoyed hummingbirds and camping.
Survivors include his companion, James J. Powell, Medford; three brothers, Richard, Chiloquin, Michael, Crows Landing, Calif. and Peter, Patterson, Calif.; three sisters, Sue Frisk, Patterson, Calif., Carolyn Palmer and Donna Lopez, Turlock, Calif..
He was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Lawrence.

Gloria Sue Axtell
Gloria Sue Axtell, 60, of Trail, died May 24, 2000, at her home. A private service was held May 26 at Trail Cemetery. Ron Welch officiated.
She was born March 17, 1940, in Rombauer, Butler Co., Mo.
She married John William Axtell, who died in 1994. She lived in Medford and Trail from 1963 until her death.
Mrs. Axtell was a medical receptionist.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons, Marty Wilson and Greg Axtell, both Trail; a daughter, Cheryl Wilson, Las Vegas; three brothers, Luther Guthrie and Ken Guthrie, both Rombauer, Mo., and Bob Guthrie, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; four sisters, Freda Davidson, Medford, Mable Wheeler and Cynthia Angel, both Shady Cove, and Alene Phelps, Dupo, Ill.; and one grandchild.
William B. Kocsis
The celebration of the life of William Kocsis, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the family home in Rogue River.
Mr. Kocsis, 84, of Rogue River, died Sunday (May 28, 2000) at his home. The memorial Mass was held Tuesday at Hope Presbyterian Church in Rogue River. Pastor Gregory Moys of St. Anne’s Catholic Church officiated.

He was born April 18, 1916, in Seminole, Pa.
On April 13, 1948, in Pittsburgh, he married Lucille McKean, who survives.
Mr. Kocsis was a grocery manager for Safeway in California for 24 years. He moved to the Rogue Valley 26 years ago from Woodland Hills, Calif.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Pacific Theater, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign.
Mr. Kocsis was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rogue River Post No. 4116.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Daniel and Michael, both Rogue River; three daughters, Linda Allphin, Central Point, Donna Paschal, Rogue River, and LouAnn Murray, San Diego; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, William, in 1970.

Frits ‘Fred’ L. Spieker
Frits "Fred" Louis Spieker, 85, of Talent, died Monday (May 29, 2000) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. No local service is planned.
He was born Nov. 8, 1914, in Amsterdam, Holland, a son of Gerrit and Anna Catherina (Levie) Spieker.
Mr. Spieker was a computer programmer. He retired in 1976, after a 50-year career with New York Life Insurance Company, where he was instrumental in installing and programming their first computers. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976 from New York.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Spieker enjoyed photography, carpentry, gardening and wine making.
Survivors include four brothers, Marinus, in Texas, Peter, in Washington, Bernard, Cape Cod, Mass., and William, in North Carolina; two sisters, Anna Dierst and Maria Martin, both in Washington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred; and three brothers.
