Donald James Hoffman

The potluck memorial service for Donald James Hoffman will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 410 E. Main St., Rogue River.

Mr. Hoffman, 59, of Rogue River, died Sunday (Jan. 2, 2000) at his home.

He was born May 14, 1940, in Riverside, Calif.

On Feb. 23, 1980, in Rogue River, he married Leah Wicks Littlefield, who survives. He had lived in Oregon for 56 years.

Mr. Hoffman was an avid gardener.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961.

Mr. Hoffman enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and camping. He was known for his sense of humor.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Aaron, McMinnville; his mother, Mae Dairy, Springfield; a stepdaughter, Kristy Emerson, Rogue River; three stepsons, John and Larry Littlefield, both Rogue River, and Bob Littlefield, missing in action from the U.S. Navy since 1984; three brothers, Richard and Bob, both in Kansas, and Allen, Craig, Alaska; two sisters, Kris Horn, Newberg, and Sally Whisenhunt, Dayville; two half-sisters, Debbie Parker and Diane Reznak, both Springfield; two stepbrothers, Joe and Loren Dairy, both Springfield; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hoffman, in 1954.

O'Neta June Cruzan

O'Neta June Fern Cruzan, 90, of Ashland, died Sunday (Jan. 2, 2000) in Ashland Community Hospital. A private memorial service will be held later. Private interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Eugene.

She was born June 28, 1909, in Gooch, a daughter of Louis and Bessie (Williams) Smith. She was raised in Springfield.

On June 22, 1930, in Springfield, she married Lee Cruzan, who died in 1993. She moved to Ashland following his death.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Kimball, Ashland; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Dolly Christina Bodam

Dolly Christina Bodam, 90, of Medford, died Sunday (Jan. 2, 2000) at her home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504, or the American Heart Association, Oregon Affiliate, 1425 N.E. Irving, Suite 100, Portland, OR 97232-4201.

She was born Feb. 4, 1909, in Muncie, Kan.

In 1928, in Kansas, she married Irvin W. Bodam, who died in 1998. She moved to Grants Pass in 1951 from Kansas.

Mrs. Bodam worked at the Riverside Motel in Grants Pass for 10 years, retiring in 1971. She moved to Medford in 1996.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking and flower gardening.

Survivors include three daughters, Dixie Gronewold, Medford, Betty Walker, Santa Clara, Calif., and Cora Lee Hoffman, Leesburg, Fla.; three sons, Glenn, Branson, Mo., Jerry, Winterhaven, Calif., and Phillip, Chattaroy, Wash.; a sister, Emma Lee Courtney, Van Nuys, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Harrison, in 1992; three brothers; and four sisters.

Arrangements: Southern Oregon Cremation Services.

Gladys Lena Lawson

Gladys Lena Lawson, 88, of Medford, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) in Medford. Private interment was in Jacksonville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Medford Medical Center, Cancer Unit, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born June 16, 1911, in Hugo, a daughter of Charles "Chic" and Jesse (Jones) Beery. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

On June 30, 1929, in Yreka, Calif., she married Floyd Lawson, who died in 1983.

Mrs. Lawson worked in local packing houses for many years. She also worked for Bell's Gift Shop and Hubbard Brothers for many years, retiring around 1987.

Survivors include a son, Floyd Kenneth "Ken," Medford; a daughter, Patricia Sutton, Woodinville, Wash.; a sister, Gayle Glover, Medford; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Jerry D. McGaugh

Jerry D. McGaugh, 75, of Central Point, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Jackson County, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Jerrold Dee McGaugh on July 17, 1924, in Tucson, Ariz., the only son of Anna and Jerry McGaugh. He grew up in Los Angeles.

On Aug. 1, 1980, in Los Angeles, he married Evelyn Ringland, who survives.

Mr. McGaugh was a dentist specializing in children's dentistry in San Diego for 28 years, until his retirement in 1980. He moved to Central Point eight years ago.

He served in the Army Engineer Corps in the European Theatre during World War II.

Mr. McGaugh was a resident of the senior community at The Meadows, where he was active on the association's board of directors. He was a master gardener and a community volunteer, providing firewood to a volunteer program and to seniors and his garden vegetables to hungry families in Central Point. He was also an approved goods prov ider for a local abused women's shelter.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Scott, San Diego; a daughter, Deeanne McGaugh, Portland; a stepson, Craig Ringland, Sandpoint, Idaho; a stepdaughter, Carla Jackson, Sandpoint, Idaho; two sisters, Jean Johnson and Betty Stangeland, both Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.

Thelma M. Blankenship

Thelma M. Blankenship, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 1, 2000) at Farmington Square in Medford. No service is planned. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, Or 97501.

She was born Thelma M. Embrey on Oct. 4, 1916, in Waurika, Okla.

On Aug. 1, 1935, she married Alva A. Blankenship, who died in 1977. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1945 from California. She moved to the Portland area in 1959; to Mesa, Ariz., in 1976; and returned to Medford in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Donald W., Central Point; a daughter, Barbara A. Daniel, Livermore, Calif.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Bessie Marie Bratcher

The memorial service for Bessie Marie Bratcher will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ashland. Pastor Phil Welklin will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bratcher, 92, of Ashland, died Saturday (Jan. 1, 2000) in Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Better Life Television, 1360 N.E. Ninth St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

She was born Bessie Fielder on Aug. 29, 1907, in Lyons, Kan.

On Nov. 26, 1924, in Kansas, she married Linzie Bratcher, who died in 1983. She lived in Rogue River from 1936 to 1941 and in the Talent-Ashland area for 58 years.

Mrs. Bratcher was a homemaker.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading and rock collecting.

Mrs. Bratcher was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ashland.

Survivors include three daughters, JoAnn Fjarli and Berdena Harklerode, both Medford, and Mari Leta Parmenter, Pleasant Hill; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Lanora Wilson and Therza Messenger; two brothers, Arnold and Howard Fielder; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary.
